Simple, easy and short, yet incredible funny. Nice graphics, cute characters and quite interesting puzzles. Controller settings are far easier than the ones in the other two Luigi's Mansion games. Good soundtrack. Some boss fights and characters are memorable. A must play, no doubt.

a timeless masterpiece. the character, the gameplay, the challenge, the replayability. it can be replayed an infinite amount of times and it will never get boring. wrestling with ghosts is quite easy but the player can improve an unbelievable amount and capture almost every boss in just 1 go.

    Nota Final: 8.1

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed the game in the beginning, the ghosts are funny but the end is really unexpected, you'll need a lot of patience with the final boss, playing against the final boss sucks.
Footnote: This game needs to be remastered as its third release for the nintendo switch.

Excellent, excellent game. I play this every year on Halloween and made it a tradition. It is a tech demo game and very short, but the charm and mature atmosphere make this a must-play. Graphics still hold up well 20 years later.

I 100% this game on my GameCube and I thought it was a great game on the GameCube and I think it was a good launch title on the GameCube in 2001 and the only thing that bothers me is that it’s kind of a short game ranging from 4 to 6 hours to beat it.

Man, Luigi's Mansion was a great launch title for the GameCube. This game is very fun. It is just such a fun and original concept. You play as Mario's brother, Luigi, and you are on a quest to save Mario from the evil King Boo, and his army of boos, and ghosts which the only way to defeat them is to suck them up with a vacuum called the Poltergeist 3000. It may sound stupid to some, but the gameplay is super fun. It is extremely satisfying to catch ghosts in this mansion. The gameplay is super fun, but, it can really drag at some points. There is some backtracking too. For example you'll get a key from the basement and see that it goes to a room on the third floor, so you go all the way to the third floor in a very specific and definitely familiar route. Then you get a key from the third floor which opens in the basement. So you go all the way back in the basement. That can be annoying, but it isn't a big complaint. Luigi's Mansion is super fun, and has some super fun gameplay. Luigi's Mansion gets a high B+, and a 8/10. Expand

surprisingly dark and atmospheric for nintendo, with one of their more underappreciated soundtracks, probably because of how underused it is. couple of songs really give me yume nikki vibes. fantastic, if a bit short.

A stellar launch title - it makes perfect sense why Mario Sunshine was sidelined during the launch in favor of this game.

Pros: -Luigi's first major game as a headliner (Mario is Missing was technically the first - this game is based off of that) -A stellar example of the great graphical and audio capabilities of the system. -Amazing story - Introduction of new characters, the bosses

-Level design is A+, the mansion and all it's 4 areas are incredible! The game becomes more addicting as you adventure throughout more of the mansion.
    -Fantastic controls

    Cons:
-The game's difficulty level is a little too easy and if you've played loads of times the game can be beaten in less than 20 hours.
    - Released a little less than a month AFTER halloween as GCN was launched November 18th 2001.

Luigi's Mansion still remains as a key franchise for Nintendo today with Luigi's Mansion 3 being one of the biggest titles for Switch so far. None of the sequels have the charm that the original have.

Luigi's Mansion also takes away the pain of having only 1 game on Gamecube developed by Rareware.

The premise of the game is that Luigi won a mansion in a contest he didn't even enter. Not being even the tiniest bit of spooked, Mario goes up to the mansion, planning on surprising his little brother, only to be captured by ghosts! So now it's up to Luigi and his new machine, the Poltergust 3000, to suck up all the ghosts.

In short, go go from room to room collecting ghosts and money. But there are some ghosts (more humanoid ones) who are not captured so easily, and require more puzzle-solving skills in order to capture. The game keeps a good balance of difficulty. Still challenging but not frustrating.

The only real problem with this game is the length of it. An average Mario game takes about a week or two for most people to beat, maybe even a month. But this one can be completed in less than a day. No joke. And because the mansion in the game is so huge, there's going to be some back-tracking involved.

Aside from those problems, the graphics, music and even the charm in this game really make this an enjoyable game. I'd highly recommend it!

The final game has a satisfying control scheme, that can make your heart pump vigorously when you get the hang of it. The controller vibrations, the sound design, and the visual effects are all on point and make you feel as though you are really using the poltergust 3000. The sound has this electric zap to it. it leaves you with a sensation that is hard to fathom the first time you play it through. It's got just enough intriguing story that will leave you satisfied as an adult, yet it is simple and does not shake the younger audience of their understanding. It is a game that really exemplifies the "E" ESRB rating, as it is truly made for everyone. It still holds up in 2018 and is personally one of my favorite games. If you are willing to give three to five hours of your time to this game, you will find a truly wonderful experience crammed into an 8 centimeter long CD. Expand

Like getting socks for Christmas, it's good and comfortable, but not what we wanted. [Feb 2003, p.96]
  2. A competent, atmospheric adventure and truly a new direction for the characters, but at this length it simply isn’t worth the £35, let alone the cost of the console.
  3. Potential tension is sorely lacking. However, the challengingly physical and rewarding nature of the actual ghost-catching sequences does go a way to make up for this.
