This game is a brave try, but most players will regard it as a step backwards from the previous game.

With a much smoother front end and far more relaxing, sedentary backdrops in-game, visually, the game seems crisper and more vibrant with the overall quality of presentation a step up from the original. [JPN Import]

If you've been craving more Konga then this is worth checking out. Otherwise it may be best to move along.

The single-player modes are really lacking, which is really astounding since the multiplayer is so much fun.

But even if you're a fan of the original bongo-bangin' rhythm game who's eager for more of the same, it's likely that the game's strained musical selection will put a damper on the experience.

A great multiplayer music experience. If you already own the first game and have invested in the konga bongos then the sequel is a no-brainer.

The gameplay itself-though uninteresting-is still intuitive and responsive.

Feels more like an expansion pack than a real sequel to Donkey Konga, and I would've liked to have seen the problems of the original fixed to some degree in its descendant. Sadly this is not the case.

The same excellent play mechanics remain from Donkey Konga, but replay value is severely marred by the inferior quality of the soundtrack.

The basics of the original remain intact – clap, slap and bang the bongos.

Another slap to the song selection is simply that most of these pop tunes have been off the charts for quite a while, making the game feel instantly out of date.

Donkey Konga 2's main mode Street Performance is just as fun as the original's, even though it has no good music what-so-ever (well, not counting the REM songs).

By comparison, Donkey Konga 2's a bit too... (ah hell, why not?) humdrum.

It may not go above and beyond the original, but at least it's another game that uses those wacky bongos. If you can stomach the abrupt change in playlists from the first to the second game you might want to give DK2 a slap, pop and clap.

Though the drums did have their allure, we found that we could take them only in small doses.

It annoys me that Nintendo didn't really do anything catchy to appeal to non believers. Because of this, the game feels very sub-standard, and the song list is atrocious. For hardcore fans only, I'm afraid.
