Army Men: Sarge's War is a great 3rd person shooter, it has a fun and pretty challenging campaign, and some great split screen versus modes with great maps, an awesome selection of weapons, graphically its great, and the sound is fantastic, the controls are great, the story revolves around Sarge's attempt to get revenge on the Tan army for destroying all the Greens, it's an enjoyableArmy Men: Sarge's War is a great 3rd person shooter, it has a fun and pretty challenging campaign, and some great split screen versus modes with great maps, an awesome selection of weapons, graphically its great, and the sound is fantastic, the controls are great, the story revolves around Sarge's attempt to get revenge on the Tan army for destroying all the Greens, it's an enjoyable shooter I would highly recommend. If your new to the army men series this is a good entry point. Graphics are ok, not the best game cube has to offer. Story and gameplay is pretty good, as long as you get this cheap you should be happy.

Sarge's War divided Army Men fans like the Berlin Wall. I would call this a spoiler alert, but since it was basically advertised all over the game, can't call it much of a spoiler. Essentially every main character save for Sargent Hawk is left dead or MIA, which alone caused much of the fanbase to revolt. Essentially every main character save for Sargent Hawk is left dead or MIA, which alone caused much of the fanbase to revolt. To ad to that, Hawk has become a serious, no-nonsense soldier with a grim outlook on life; as opposed to the playful, joke cracking hero we always had before. Environments are dark, dank and forlorn... weapons are metal instead of plastic... the list of changes here is endless. In my honest opinion, story and ascetic changes aside, Sarge's War is only and okay that limps to a 7 due to a great multiplayer. Gameplay feels much less 'fun' than the previous installments, it's a very short game (only about a dozen or so levels), and the soundtrack is almost nonexistent. Not to say it's a bad game, it's one of the better installments Army Men got in the 6th generation of consoles tbh and has its moments. But it's almost purely for the hardest of hardcore Army Men fans and military shooter fans, and even then feels lacking(sans the multiplayer). Also if you grew up with Sarge's Heroes and Air Attack and all those great games, might wanna skip a cut-scene or two. You may end up with some man tears. Or just bawling in general. Expand

Army Men: Sarge's War has aged quite poorly. I have fond memories of playing this game back in the day, but in the modern day there is nothing here worth going back to. The game also has a propensity to freeze when you input too many buttons at the same time. It only happened to me twice during gameplay, but I could consistently get it to happen when I tried. My biggest gripe, however, is with the camera controls. Although you can control the camera independently from the movement, the camera also adjusts in the direction that your character is facing so you are often fighting with the camera to get anything accomplished. All of this leads to a complete mess of a game that while mildly enjoyable back in 2004, is a painful waste of time in 2023. Expand

Bomb-collection out the wazoo, a grim but bland story line, and everything old packaged as if it were new. [June 2003, p.75]
  2. It's by no means an original experience, but it still manages to entertain from start to finish. Army Men fans are going to love it.

The backgrounds are beautifully rendered and the action runs nonstop. [May 2003, p.138]
