The purists choice for outstanding baseball action...a fun, authentic, and accurate baseball sim.
  2. The amount of entertainment value is unsurpassed by any title released thus far...even with its flaws, the title is easily the best baseball game money can buy at the moment.
  3. While the different batting camera angles are missing, ASB 2003 is outstanding.

It looks a heck of a lot nicer, plays better, and offers more than you could ever imagine. [Apr 2002, p.79]

At the plate, the cursor-assisted hitting is solid, but base-running can be a button-pressing adventure with multiple runners on the bags.
  6. MLB fanatics will fall in love with the amount of detail and the realism of the game that is presented.
  7. Other issues like dynamic commentary and improved graphics also help put the series back on track with the only serious issue being the requirement of the larger memory card when using the franchise mode.

An unequaled hitting / pitching system, tight fielding and running controls and lots of great modes to explore.
  9. If you want to play franchise you have to shell out the cash for a 3rd party card or wait for the larger card from Nintendo. We can't really blame Acclaim for the memory card woes, but its dissapointing that the hardware is holding back some of the bigger portions of the game.
  10. The graphics leave a bit to be desired, and there are some slight quirks with the gameplay, but compared with last year's bug-filled installment, All-Star Baseball 2003 is [a] winner.
  11. Questionable baserunning AI, lack of tuning options, and some fielding issues.
  12. A big step in the right direction.
  13. Though you see the initial action (as in the pitcher delivering the ball and the batter swinging) in real time, the replays don’t show the ball actually hitting the bat, nor the outfielder, or infielder, actually gloving the ball. It all just disappears as it gets close to the contact point.

I'm not sure which is harder: keeping Robert Downy Jr. away from a crack pipe or establishing a consistent offense in All-Star Baseball. [June 2002, p.118]

It's not there yet (with this version), but we look forward to the elimination of players running through each other, balls landing perfectly in gloves, and a more simplified swing system.

The Memory Card has only 59 blocks! What in the world was Acclaim thinking? [May 2002, p.134]
