  1. It’s not exactly a sequel, but more of a standalone expansion pack with improved gameplay. Get it!
  2. An awesome pickup for any Yu-Gi-Oh! fan.

A must-own title for fans of the cartoon and a strong buy for fans of strategy games in general. [Summer 2003, p.52]

Other than the addition of a few hundred more cards, a slight tweak in pace, and a new style challenge interface, there's not much change to the overall game design. It's still a great strategy game.
  5. What this game lacks in glitz and glamour, it makes up in structure, skill and longevity.

Simply what a game is supposed to be. No tricks, gimmicks, and no need for hype. It's pure, addictive, mind-buzzing gameplay.
  7. 80
Diehard fans will probably find the added cards and light quest mode to be worth the investment, but casual "Yu-Gi-Oh" players who already have "Eternal Duelist Soul" may not want to shell out $30 just for a minor update.

    Painfully addictive. [June 2003, p.119]

It's the closest one yet to capturing the spirit of the card game.
  10. A fun game, and the deck creation element is very addictive. Still a bit pointless though, and could be better presented. [GamesMaster]
  11. Don't get me wrong, I do like the game. It's just that perhaps I'll wait until a version with playable God Cards is released before I buy another Yu-Gi-Oh! game.
  12. Not the kind of game that everyone will embrace. This game is predicated on those who like the cerebral challenge of card-driven chess in a static environment. This is not a reflexive challenge.

The trading card game rules could be confusing for a Yu-Gi-Oh! novice, but the basic play control is intuitive. [May 2003, p.140]
  14. A serviceable, lightweight entry in the genre. It stays true enough to the source material, which should please fans, but the game's rather dry presentation may make it inaccessible to outsiders.
  15. If you’re unfamiliar with the card game, you’ll want to stay faraway from this game. Because unlike The Eternal Duelist Soul, this game has no tutorial.
  16. The graphics and sound are rather bland, and novice players will spend a lot of time blundering through their mistakes until they figure out how to play the game through trial and error. Not much fun at all.
