Manages to blend all the right elements of control, graphics and sound into a package that fits in the palm of your hand while acting like a game fit for a console.
-
Certainly one of the best racing titles for the system, even if there are no foolish spectators to mow down every time you slide a bit too widely around a curve.
-
TGR truly pushes the GBA's limits to offer one of the most amazing handheld racing experiences ever created. It's a rare creation: a game whose sophisticated graphics engine not only enhances its look, but also its gameplay.
-
In addition to having incredible visuals, Top Gear Rally duplicates the slip-slide nature of rally racing fairly well. The game is easy to dive into, and there are plenty of tracks and adjustment options to keep you busy for a long time.
-
This may not be the game for car fanatics. It's the game more for the Mario Kart-ers, in the sense that it's not that deep, but provides simple and mindless entertainment for the short time that you need it.
-
A very enjoyable racer that might be a little light in customization, but it makes up for it in all the tracks and challenges that you have to race through. There's an excellent amount of racing to be had here.
-
Game InformerThe fact that I'm talking about this title almost like it was a real rally game for a big console shows you how serious of a good time Top Gear is. [Jan 2004, p.160]
-
It's a rally racing game in true 3D, and while most games of this type seem to be slow and sluggish, TGR is quite the opposite, fast and smooth. It has a lot of impressive things going for it, with few shortcomings to speak of.
-
If handheld racing is your thing, this rally title should be near the top of your list.
-
Nintendo PowerVibrantly colorful graphics, a sensational sense of speed and realistic physics in a variety of track conditions make Top Gear Rally a solid and enjoyable play. [Dec 2003, p.146]
-
When the core gameplay is so obviously hamstrung by fundamental design issues, there's no real incentive to get stuck into the meat of the game, and thus the chances of being able to enjoy the two-player link mode disappear into the ether.
-
Cheat Code CentralOne of the better looking racing games with a very solid engine developed by Tantalus. It also plays great to boot. Now here's the problem, I'm bored... Now all I have to do is concentrate on the actual gameplay - and I can't help but notice how lackluster it is.
