The gameplay is far too limited to be played for long stretches of time, but it's a nice way to kill a half hour here and there.
-
Game InformerYou really couldn't ask for a better version of Space Channel 5 on GBA. [Fall 2003, p.126]
-
Really short and super-easy. Mini-Ulala works mostly as a neato novelty act.
-
THQ did a respectable job in porting Space Channel 5 over to the GBA considering what they had to work with, but the fact of the matter is that the games music-oriented dynamics just dont translate very well to the system.
-
If you're a diehard Dreamcast fan and your Dreamcast broke and you might think this copy will make up for your missing Ulala, I'd suggest skipping this and going to eBay to get a replacement.
-
Nintendo PowerPlay control is tight and the graphics are colorful but sparse. [June 2003, p.139]
-
While the game is fairly short, the individual reports are quite long and you can only save between them. Since there's no sleep or suspend mode, it's not a good game to play in short bursts.
-
Edge MagazinePolish and beauty is the essence of ULALA, and while this conversion is superb, it's simply not made for the small screen. It's large, loud and beautiful, and that's how it should be. [Oct 2003, p.103]
-
This GBA port just feels thrown together; the gameplay's there, sure, but Space Channel 5 was also about style and presentation...something that just didn't come through in the portable rendition.
