Building zoos is a piece cake and there are enough options to satisfy most players. Serviceable graphics detract from the experience, as do technical limitations, but those can be forgiven.
-
A very well-made sim game on the DS. Solid, fun, and worth checking out especially for animal lovers/younger gamers.
-
Overall, Zoo Tycoon 2's greatest appeal will be to younger gamers or tycoon game fans who don't mind exchanging complexity for the ability to play a tycoon game on the road.
-
For gamers that have somehow not developed an opinion on the genre, or for that new generation of young gamers-to-be, Zoo Tycoon 2 is a simple, decently paced title that still has a good amount of hands on interactivity.
-
Nintendo PowerNevertheless, the title is a good choice for zoo enthusiasts and as a first step for players new to Tycoon sims. [Mar 2008, p.88]
-
For the most part though, this game is all about gradually building up parks by yourself in the free play mode and relaxing with your creations. If that sounds fun to you, then you'll dig Zoo Tycoon 2 DS.
-
Adults may find it a little yawn-inducing after awhile, but younger players who are animal lovers will have a great time with it.
-
Visually the game works on some levels and fails miserably on others.
-
The game does a pretty good job at being fun, but when it comes to a good tycoon experience, it falls short.
-
Zoo Tycoon was never an amazing game on the PC, and the transition to the small screen has lost a little depth, a little character, a little challenge and a lot of graphical magic.
-
While not terrible, Zoo Tycoon 2 suffers from a lack of sheen that creeps like dry rot into the foundations of the game, dulling the whole experience.
-
Underneath the bubbly aesthetics of frolicking animals, pan flute music, and dolphin-mask souvenirs lies an intricate strategy game of careful planning and decisive action.
-
If you are the type of gamer who enjoys simulation building games then Zoo Tycoon 2 will give you a healthy excuse to build the trump palace of Zoos. If you haven’t liked “Tycoon” games in the past, don’t start with DS version of Zoo Tycoon 2.
-
Campaign proceedings are frustrating as hell for one reason: spontaneous failure.
-
Zoo Tycoon 2 for the DS is an overly simplistic zoo-management game that won't find many fans over the age of 10.
-
I love animals and enjoy trying to figure out and fulfill their every need, but Zoo Tycoon 2 lacks personality and depth. It doesn't even serve as an educational tool for aspiring zoologists.
-
A watered down port.
