  1. Pirates: Duels on the High Seas feels more like a game for mobile phones that you can pick up for a fiver than a twenty quid DS game. It shows very little imagination and no new ideas, as though the developers have drawn themselves a very small box and made no attempt to think outside of it.
  2. Competently delivered yet frustratingly unambitious, Pirates: Duels on the High Seas will leave most gamers cold. Best left to drift away with the flotsam and jetsam.
  3. Nintendo Gamer

    A yo-ho-no. [Dec 2008, p.77]
  4. The flat multiplayer mode cements Pirates: Duels on the High Seas as a mostly respectable technical effort that simply lacks the requisite dynamism and ingenuity to satisfy as a game based entirely on action.
  5. A bland experienced robbed of energy and excitement by identikit missions and limited level design.
  6. Using the wind and terrain to your advantage, firing the cannons at the perfect time to launch the perfect assault; it could have been amazing. Disappointingly, with poor A.I, little replay value and poor use of the systems trademark features it’s turns out to be as entertaining as scurvy.
