n-Revolution Magazine UKA pirate's life should never be a solitary one, and the game works much better when played with a group of mates. [Issue #24, p.74]
-
Pirates: Duels on the High Seas is not particularly a bad game, it is just one that does not stand out.
-
AceGamezIt's a decent game that misses out on greatness due to a lack of thought in level design and a lack of variety in looks.
-
The lack of online multiplayer really brings the score down for Pirates: Duels on the High Sea. With the repetitive gameplay in the singleplayer mode, an online multiplayer mode would really have made Pirates much more fun.
-
The problem arises from the fact that it never tries to better itself as you progress.
-
It's certainly not terrible, but then there's absolutely nothing special or interesting about it either.
-
While it’s still a way off being a title to remember, it’s a massive improvement on KoD and shows promise for the franchise that appears to be on the up, addressing key areas like the difficulty.
-
BoomtownSuddenly, it’s not nice any more. It’s a joke. £25 worth of bland. It’s like buying a surprise celebrity and getting home to discover it’s Dale Winton.
-
I'd suggest avoiding this one, regardless of how low the price point may be, and you'd be better off spending your time on something else.
-
Pirates: Duels on the High Seas feels more like a game for mobile phones that you can pick up for a fiver than a twenty quid DS game. It shows very little imagination and no new ideas, as though the developers have drawn themselves a very small box and made no attempt to think outside of it.
-
Competently delivered yet frustratingly unambitious, Pirates: Duels on the High Seas will leave most gamers cold. Best left to drift away with the flotsam and jetsam.
-
The flat multiplayer mode cements Pirates: Duels on the High Seas as a mostly respectable technical effort that simply lacks the requisite dynamism and ingenuity to satisfy as a game based entirely on action.
-
A bland experienced robbed of energy and excitement by identikit missions and limited level design.
-
Nintendo GamerA yo-ho-no. [Dec 2008, p.77]
-
Using the wind and terrain to your advantage, firing the cannons at the perfect time to launch the perfect assault; it could have been amazing. Disappointingly, with poor A.I, little replay value and poor use of the systems trademark features it’s turns out to be as entertaining as scurvy.
