Game InformerDovetailing off the success of Nintendo's "Brain Age", My Word Coach is about as much fun as you can have while getting a vocabulary lesson. [Feb 2008, p.96]
-
The game is easily accessible to players with all different vocabulary ability levels, but it won't have any qualms about showing you just how much you need to improve.
-
As far as edutainment games goes, My Word Coach is one of the better ones I have spent time with and one in which nearly anyone age 8 or older should be able to get something out of.
-
True, it all feels more like doing homework than playing a game. But the incentive to keep going is you do find yourself learning new words. If that appeals, My Word Coach offers a stylishly presented, relatively entertaining way of doing it.
-
A genuinely-useful vocabulary-expanding tool, and just palatable enough in its activities for the conditioned gamer. It’s on the dry, academic side, of course - it’s an ‘edutainment’ title, isn’t it? - but it’s definitely challenging, and might even make you sound smarter, or pass the SAT.
-
Nintendo GamerWe can't see what anyone will gain from this that they couldn't gain tenfold from a good novel and a dictionary. [Feb 2008, p.71]
-
This is a classic case of a good idea with lackluster execution, making My Word Coach the kind of game that I'd like to see followed up with an expanded and improved sequel.
