In this two-in-one adventure, players explore five exotic worlds, fight a variety of opponents, and venture through more than 30 levels, including nearly a dozen hidden levels while taking on outrageous world-ending bosses. The separate worlds on the two Nintendo DS screens have a cause and effect inter-relationship, and players choose when to switch between conquering the action-platform realm and mastering the increasingly challenging puzzle world. A wide variety of power-ups help Hatsworth in both of these worlds. Players complete puzzle combinations and defeat puzzle enemies in order to gain power ups, health, and energy to supercharge Hatsworth in his adventure. [Electronic Arts] Expand

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is a fantastic game for anyone who loves old school platformers and match 3 puzzle games.
  2. If you own a DS, be sure to put Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure on your "must buy" list. It may not have gotten a massive amount of press, but it's sure to rise in popularity thanks to positive word of mouth.

On their own, the adventure and puzzle segments of Henry Hatsworth would not be especially interesting videogames. But this experiment succeeds because of how well the two genres play off one another. While certain level elements can feel monotonous, the core experience is sound, delivering controlled chaos into the palms of your achy, sweating hands.
  4. The whole package is very much worth playing through, even if it doesn't do much of anything outright new apart from the genre combination. This is the title, like Retro Game Challenge, that is helping to keep the classics around. And for good reason: everybody should get the chance to play them.
  5. EA did an excellent job blending both genres and we enjoyed the humorous dialogue, cut scenes and gameplay, especially when Henry wrecks bad guys while piloting a giant robot. Fun, charming and addictive, Henry Hatsworth is one of the best games for the DS.
  6. It's cheap as chips, is perfect for the odd half-hour commute and, most importantly of all, is solid fun. A bizarre, and successful experiment.

Henry Hatsworth In The Puzzling Adventure isn't a bad game; it's two half-decent ones. [May 2009, p.126]

How the hell did this game come out of EA? It is so charming and full of character, to anyone who doesn't like it I can only say: poppycock!

It's an amazing game that mix up adventure with puzzles through the entire game which is wonderful if you like both genres as well as it can be a little bit annoying if you're not familiar with these mixed-genres games. Enjoyable, original and tough. This is one of the funniest games of the NDS and one of the hardest at the same time. If you like adventure/puzzle games, this one is for you. Expand

Just wait until you play until the third world. It's extreme difficultly really made me want to put down the game, but the robot suit and the constant updates it gets really makes it fun. I beat SMB3, and I find this game very challenging overall, and almost as challenging. Play it again, and play it until the third boss this time, will ya? Don't give a crap review, when you JUST started this amazing game. Expand

This is one of my favourite games ever and certainly my favourite on the DS.

Henry Hatsworth is not everyone cup of tea (excuse the pun), I'd suggest you either adore it, or aren't a fan. The innovative game combines platforming, action, and puzzle all with a good dollop of humour. The first 3-4 worlds are fairly simple and are pretty much there to try and prepare you for the final world which I should warn you, is very very difficult. Few people have played this game, but even fewer have finished it as it becomes very unforgiving later on punishing any mistakes. The puzzle element of the game almost starts out as a separate game because you get that much time to do it. But by the finals levels you must quickly switch between the two, attempting to get yourself extra life and power to be able to continue through the game. And the final boss is absolutely epic. A truly amazing game that those like myself who do finish it, will feel very smug and rightly so.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am quite impressed with this game and even though it was god damn difficult at times, I loved it quite a bit. It is such a unique concept to fuse a 2D action platformer to a tetris / candy crush game. The developers really pulled it off with this concept. You have two screens, the top one is where you do your platforming and slashing monsters which then fall into the lower screen and turn regular block into monster blocks with little eyes. Then the blocks keep rising row after row, you need to manage the puzzle and keep it low before the monster blocks overflow into the top screen. If that happens they will drop down from the sky to stomp you until you kill them, which is quite annoying. Power ups, extra lives and hearts are mostly collected on the top screen but can only be activated or used after you align them with other blocks of the same colour. Those power ups then affect the top screen. As you align blocks a meter will build up which depletes when you use special attacks but if it’s full then you’re in for a treat. You get “TEA TIME”, you get into a big robot suit that’s temporarily invincible and you just kick ass. It’s so satisfying to do. Managing the puzzle never felt like a chore. The story is nothing to be amazed about but it has its funny moments, I chuckled quite a few times especially with all the gentlemen talk. Levels are full of secrets, you have secret exits which then lead to secret levels that often reward you greatly with permanent abilities. The game can be cheap at times like when there’s a very small platform with only room for one enemy with a shield makes it quite frustrating but not impossible to surpass given the right projectile ammunition. The frame rate drops significantly when lots of enemies are one the screen making it barely playable. Those are few and far between. The animation is really smooth it makes it look very cartoonish with its elasticity, which is a good thing. Soundtrack is just flawless, especially while doing the puzzles in the bottom screen, it makes you want to stay there longer! Overall I highly recommend this game but beware, it seems easy at first but the difficulty ramps up significantly nearing the end, not for the casual gamer, you will die a lot. I had such a blast but I’m glad it’s over, I won’t attempt the “Gentlemen mode”, basically a New Game +, Hard mode with all your upgrades from the start. Maybe someday, I’ll keep the save file for a possible revisit years ahead. Try it out, quite the gem ;) Expand

Puzzle portion only manages to slows the game down, as you constantly having to switch back and forth between puzzle and platform segments. The levels themselves lack challenge and creativity. Challenge comes froms bosses and trap rooms where you're trapped and must clear out the of respawning enemies that do high amounts of damage. As a longtime fan of 2d platformers, I can say there really isn't anything special about this Henry Hatsworth. Mediocre at best. Expand
