  1. Due to its target audience, it's understandable that EA Playground is easy, but it's inexcusable to have games that are only made challenging by their bad design.

As a 29 year old former hardcore gamer, I enjoyed EA Playground, so I don't think you have to be a kid to have fun with it. Progressing As a 29 year old former hardcore gamer, I enjoyed EA Playground, so I don't think you have to be a kid to have fun with it. Progressing through the game offers a well-balanced challenge, collecting marbles which in turn earn you stickers that give you power-ups, which you'll need in the harder levels. Earning all those things is fun, thanks in part to good implementation of the stylus controls when they are called for, while mixing in the rest of the controls and buttons. I found that dodgeball, for example, required a special hold of the DS, in order to operate the stylus, control pad, and trigger to throw, block, and move. That could be awkward and cramp-inducing, but it's effective control on a handheld nonetheless. While you may not like every game (hopscotch and the trampoline were a little too easy and simplistic for me), each one offers enough fun and playability to keep you trying again. Sometimes it may even get maddening. Dodgeball requires some strategy, as do a lot of other "special" challenges within some of the other games, so it's not all just simple child's play. Some other games just require you to hang on, like capturing bugs while avoiding stinging bees as you reach for the level's point goal. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of replay value unless you just want to play casually after beating all the challenges. And no single card play is a real letdown. Still, this game will stay in my travel pouch. Full Review »
