As a 29 year old former hardcore gamer, I enjoyed EA Playground, so I don't think you have to be a kid to have fun with it. Progressing through the game offers a well-balanced challenge, collecting marbles which in turn earn you stickers that give you power-ups, which you'll need in the harder levels. Earning all those things is fun, thanks in part to good implementation of the stylus controls when they are called for, while mixing in the rest of the controls and buttons. I found that dodgeball, for example, required a special hold of the DS, in order to operate the stylus, control pad, and trigger to throw, block, and move. That could be awkward and cramp-inducing, but it's effective control on a handheld nonetheless. While you may not like every game (hopscotch and the trampoline were a little too easy and simplistic for me), each one offers enough fun and playability to keep you trying again. Sometimes it may even get maddening. Dodgeball requires some strategy, as do a lot of other "special" challenges within some of the other games, so it's not all just simple child's play. Some other games just require you to hang on, like capturing bugs while avoiding stinging bees as you reach for the level's point goal. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of replay value unless you just want to play casually after beating all the challenges. And no single card play is a real letdown. Still, this game will stay in my travel pouch. Expand

The epitome of a "solid" experience. Nothing about it is amazing, but it's not bad...and it's certainly fun as long as you keep yourself in the mindset that these games skew a bit younger than your hardcore gamer.
  2. A lack of extensive content proves to be the ultimate detractor, as most skilled players will see and do nearly everything on the single-player front inside of five hours. And without Wi-Fi play or even single-card support, the multiplayer experience is hardly a highlight of this iteration.
  3. Obviously directed towards the children here and now, the presentation and lasting appeal of EA Playground does not grab hold of any adult’s hand any more firm than a child itself.
