  1. It's a very unique take on an RPG, and the Monopoly/Mario Party elements combine well to create something new.
  2. Here’s a little quiz: 1. Do you have three friends with DSs? 2. Are those friends RPG-savvy enough to know a Hit Point from an Item Shop? If you answered yes to both, then congratulations! You’re just a copy of Dokapon Journey away from having some of the most fun the DS can provide.

Overall, Dokapon Journey is a refreshing game.
  4. Dokapon Journey does a very good job of going beyond the stale and shallow standard that Mario Party has set for the party genre with a deeper RPG-style game that is made for better competition amongst friends than playing simple minigames over and over again.
  5. Like many Atlus titles, this isn't a game for everyone. Lone players can enjoy the colorful art, the humor and some of the table-turning ruthlessness, but Dokepon's journey is meant to be taken with friends.
  6. Dokapon Journey is a good game, and while it is heavily inspired by its console cousin there are enough differences that keep it from being a shameless console-to-portable port.
  7. This role-playing board game takes delight in letting you mess with your friends, and it's fun for as long as you can tolerate its slow pace.
  8. This isn't a bad game, it's just trying to accomplish too much with too little, and ends up being a letdown. If you're into RPGs and you can stand generic, overrepetitive gameplay, then you will enjoy this. If not, then steer clear.
  9. I do think that the gameplay is solid, and a couple of tweaks could make this a great game.

If you’re willing to put aside any and all presentation/visual downsides, Dokapon Journey is an entertaining offering for DS owners that don’t have any way to buy Dokapon Kingdom on Wii or PS2, or love the series so much they need a portable version.
  11. The game can be a lot of fun with three or four human players, but playing with the computer-controlled characters gets boring fast.
  12. This version of Dokapon Journey does not add anything to the previous wii game. Indeed the game experience is more boring and repetitive. If you like RPGs on DS you may look for something better.

As you might expect, facing computer-controlled opponents in an RPG-themed board game is a dreadful bore. [May 2009, p.89]
  14. 40
    Dokapon Journey fails to impress.
  15. It’s almost heartbreaking how much wasted potential there is here.
  16. There's hardly any redeeming factors in the entire game. It's too complex to appeal to casual or young gamers, and at the same time, it's too basic an silly to appeal to mature gamers.

It's too complex to appeal to casual or young gamers, and at the same time, it's too basic an silly to appeal to mature gamers." This to me is the EXACT reason it IS appealing, I would come under their "mature players" umbrella, yet the simplicity to me, is the beauty of the game, It isn't an intense RPG with massively overpowered enemies, that will take you a long time to advance through. Yet it follows the formula, and as such presents itself as an easy bitsized (content-wise not time consumption-wise) RPG to play against friends when you have a bit of spare time. Which I find to be a positive thing, of course there are some aspects that are irksome, but I'm yet to play a perfect game, and I don't find them severe enough to detract from the overall experience.
