  1. Both fans of the series and newcomers will find Bakugan Battle Brawlers DS a surprisingly deep, yet rushed game.
  2. A surprisingly respectable showing by Activision. With so many publishers putting little effort into titles aimed at the younger gaming audience, it's refreshing to see fans of this license get something worth playing. In the end, though, the lack of variety and stale pacing make this a game that's only really fun in very small doses.
  3. Fans of the series will find something to enjoy with Bakugan Battle Brawlers, but all others will likely get bored almost immediately. It's faithful to the original product, which many fans will appreciate, but it's not going to convert you into a Bakugan fanatic.

Bakugan: Battle Brawlers seems to do things mostly right on paper, though the actual gameplay offers too much build-up to each fight and not enough in the actual battle department.

For non-Bakugan followers this is, quite literally, balls. [Christmas 2009, p.70]
  6. 50
Bakugan: Battle Brawlers doesn't offer anything new to the turn-based strategy genre.

The gameplay features a perfect balance of complexity where newcomers are easily introduced to new concepts that boggle their mind before soon becoming second-nature, then scaling into more elaborate mechanics that challenge the strategic potential of even longtime fans of Twilight Imperium. It's the classic tale of "easy to learn, difficult to master". Whilst games such as Super Mario Odyssey offer platforming perfection which lets the player flourish in a menagerie of wondrous movement options, and other selections similar to Spiderman or Persona 5 on the PS4 offer deeply enriching stories that can drive players to experience unparalleled emotional connection to its characters, nothing can even match up to the paragon of quality which is Bakugan Battle Brawlers. The symbolism woven into the act of launching the spherical beasts onto the field of play, who magnetically stick to cards laid out to humor the players with increasing risks and danger, is breathtaking beyond measure. The intricacy and strategy in choosing the right team of Bakugan to enter into battle with is one that deserves a price in of itself. The characters themselves are as deep as any real person you'd find off the street, with inner conflicts and struggles that compliment the stakes within the plot in ways that are truly gripping. I can still feel my heart racing from the scene where Shun, master of ventus-class bakugan, exhibits a coldness to the rest of his allies in an attempt to hide his inner complexities that may leave him vulnerable to those who remain too close for comfort.

Overall, Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a riveting game with unparalleled game-play and tactical potential that will leave any player scrambling for more. I can see the competitive scene for this product spanning decades in the future. This game is a MUST BUY.
