Infestation is the single best follow-up to James Cameron's Aliens since Mark Verheiden's black-and-white Dark Horse comics (the original edition that starred an adult Newt and an embittered Hicks, mind you) more than 20 years ago. More than that, it's an excellent game.

Infestation's quality is surprising in a sea of mediocre licensed games. It's not afraid to show off where it got its inspiration, but that's okay. Metroid's format works well in the world of Aliens. There are a few minor frustrations, and the mortality of the characters was surprising, even frustrating at first, but ultimately it adds a worthwhile sense of fear to the entire game. If you're a fan of Metroid, Aliens, or just solid handheld experiences, don't let Infestation become forgotten as the 3DS wave washes over us.

Aliens: Infestation is the side-scrolling Metroid you've been waiting for, and will especially excite fans of the original movie.

For a DS game, Infestation looks great. The 2D animations are sharp, and there is a nice level of detail to each area.

Still, even with these marks against it, Aliens: Infestation is worth playing and is an example of a game that really, truly cares about your lives-even if it cares about your deaths just a teensy bit more.

There is certainly some fun to be had exploring the USS Sulaco and fighting the xenomorphs, but its repetitive nature and lack of variety distracts from what could have been a great game.

It's clearly a game with some heart, but it also misses on enough of the tangibles and intangibles alike to stand out among the rest of DS's offerings.

The graphics are 16 bit awesome, the dialogue is punchy and enjoyable, and the gameplay is simple and engaging. Wayforward have done a terrific job of making a game that slots nicely into the Aliens Universe, and is something I know I've been looking forward to for a looooong time.:) I'm excited to see how it connects up to Aliens: Colonial Marines next year.
At any rate, you owe it to yourself to check it out!

Nice presentation featuring illustrations by comic book artist Chris Bachalo and a nice blend of exploration and shooting but it's never in the same league as the GBA Metroid games. It is as good as the DS Castlevania games though, so if you liked those you'll probably like this too. Expand

You are sent as part of a squad to the Sulaco, the ship from the second film in the franchise. The game also features an interesting mechanic. Your squad consists of 4 marines. When 1 dies... they're gone for good. However, you can fill out your squad with other marines scattered around the various levels. Essentially, this is a twist on the tried and true lives system. A great fictional universe, rock solid gameplay and a tension-ratcheting squad mechanic combines to make this one great game. DS owners shouldn't miss this gem. Expand

Aliens: Infestation does a great job at evoking and paying homage to it's source material. If you are a fan of the movies, then you'llAliens: Infestation does a great job at evoking and paying homage to it's source material. If you are a fan of the movies, then you'll definitely get a kick out of Infestation's design. The life system deserves special mention for being awesome. You have a finite amount of lives, represented by your squad of marines. If a marine falls, you can recruit another to take their place... If you can find them, that is. Each marine is distinctive and has their own tree of situational dialogue. This makes it easy to get attached to them. It's not just lives you're losing but members of your team! That said, Aliens: Infestation is cripplingly difficult. I grew up playing NES and SNES, so I'm no stranger to tough 2D games, but this one really tries my patience. That said, if you have the patience and stomach for a rough ride, Aliens: Infestation might rock your world. Expand
