This may be that only game of Sonic that I have really enjoyed much better if it is the in the last Sega console. While a may not remember as clearly , Im going directly to the entertainment it offered . Sonic fans may start looking for this one... if they can find it .

Honestly, I always liked the first Sonic Adventure a little better. This game ditches the adventure fields and focuses on a more classic setup. The visuals have improved. The voices are cheesy, but I believe you can change it to Japanese and it makes the game sound alright. This game is probably one of the better 3D sonics.

While a few levels tend to overstay their welcome, Sonic Adventure 2 is still a very memorable experience. It was a lot of fun with fast-paced, shooting gallery, and treasure hunting levels. Add that to a good story and a great soundtrack, and Sonic Adventure 2 is very enjoyable.

The people that dislike Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 need to git gud. The Sonic franchise peaked at this era and took a nosedive afterwards.

It's not perfect but it's a damn good game and has a well written(relatively for a sonic game) yet delightfully silly story and amazing soundtrack and art style at a level that has never been achieved in a Sonic game since.

Sonic Adventure 2 was initially released back in 2001 as the swansong for SEGA's Dreamcast and man did the Dreamcast bow out with style.

The game has 3 distinct playstyles. Sonic and Shadow have fast paced platforming with lots of corkscrews, tricks and excitement to behold. This gameplay style is more action-packed than it's predecessor, Sonic Adventure 1. These stages are the most fun part of SA2. The game's level design is exquisite and require you to remain alert. But, these segments aren't perfect, there are a few things holding this playstyle back. The game's controls and collision can feel rather janky and unpolished which can lead to a few unfair deaths. Moveover, the game's lackuster camera occasionally struggles to track the player.

This problem is most apparent in Knuckles' and Rouge's treasure-hunting stages. These stages require you to locate 3 shards of the master emerald in large 3D environments with a radar and clues to help to find them. This is probably my least favourite playstyle in the game. The radar has been nerfed since SA1 as that game allowed to track multiple items at once, while this game can handle one. This feels like a blatant excuse to increase game time. Other than those quibbles, this gamestyle is rather enjoyable. The level design is just as immaculate as the speed stages and finding the shards can be quite enjoyable.

Just like how shooting up robots are! This incredible Segway leads us to the game's final playstyle, Tails and Eggman's shooting stages. These stages have you destroying robots and traverse the stages in a mech. These stages can be quite mundane until you acquire upgrades for Tails' and Eggman's mech later in the game. These really spice up their gameplay and the later stages become more frantic, fun as they really utilise these upgrades. And, you can go back to previous stages and utilise these new abilities to find secrets or move through the stages faster. This goes for most of the game's upgrades. For example, Sonic and Shadow's light speed dash has you speeding through a trail of rings at light speed. This utilised well in Metal Habour, Sonic's second stage.

The Chao garden is an enjoyable extra mode where you raise adorable creatures and have them race and play karate. And the game's 2 player mode sweetens the deal.

It's a good game, a very nice one, but, it has a problem, that, is by far, Sonic and Shadow levels, not because they're bad levels, it's becase this levels are too short and there are not too much, just 11 of 30 levels, they're the third part of this game, the other levels are too largue compared with Sonic/Shadow levels.
Away from that, it's one of the bests Sonic games

As for the music, do I even have to say anything. From the moment you hear city escape all the way to live and Learn, this game will make you bob your head and tap your feet to it's OST.

    Gameplay:
Sonic and Shadow are the classic 3d stages from the original sonic adventure, and really, you can't go wrong here. A game that rewards you with going fast rather than just giving it to you, and level specific gimmicks that are executed really well.

Tails and Eggman use the formula that Gamma had in the original sonic adventure; and even though I prefer those stages, Tails' and Eggman's stages are a decent attempt, unfortunately hindered by some clunky controls that haven't aged too well. Mediocre at WORST.

However, I can't say that I enjoyed Knuckles and Rouges levels, with Mad Space possibly being the worst part in the entire game. I enjoyed Knuckles' stages from SA1 because they were small spaces. Not only did SA2 decide to make the levels bigger, but make the radar only pick up one emerald signal at a time. These stages are why I have never beaten this game 100%, but they don't ruin the entire experience, an is worth getting through to play the other game modes.

    Chao:
Have you heard of a game called duck life? well that's basically a clone of the chao garden. The Dreamcast also has a chao mini-game for the VMU. Unfortunately the original version doesn't have a menu pop up to show you chao's stats, so you just have to trial and error your way through the challenges. Still more fun than it has any right to be as fun as it is for a little thing on the side of the sonic game.

In general, I would say that Sonic adventure for it's time is an amazing game, and looking back at it now, it's defiantly stood the test of time rather well, but there are better versions of the game out there.

Sonic Adventure 2 may have not held up well today, but without a doubt has a lot of people's hearts tied to this game. Sonic Adventure 2 is a 3D high speed action platformer released in 2001, and is one of the most memorable games in the Sonic franchise. The levels are very memorable and beloved by many, such as City Escape, Green Forest, Metal Harbour, Pumpkin Hill and several others. Along with the memorable level comes the story that may seem silly to take seriously but still has it's charm. Many fans of the game would agree that they don't really like the Shooting or Treasure Hunting parts of the game. This is mainly because those stages are more common than the stages everyone wants to play, which are the Sonic and Shadow stages. This is most likely because Sonic Team wanted to increase the length of this game. The game's soundtrack is also really good, even in stages that aren't so great. Jun Sunoe is the best guitar player ever, and best video game composer to this day.

Also included in Sonic Adventure 2 is a sub game called Chao Garden. In this mode you look after creatures called Chao, and you can level them up and change their appearances by collecting Chaos Drives and Animals in the main game's stages. Leveling these Chao up makes them stronger at Running, Swimming, Flying, Fighting and increases Stamina, which is useful if you enter them into Chao Races or Chao Karate. This mode is probably the reason why a lot of people spend time grinding in the main game's stages, and the reason why they still play today.

Included in the game is a multiplayer mode and kart racing. kart racing isn't very special. It's kind of basic, and the races aren't really that exciting. If you happen to mess up, it makes it harder to catch up to first place again. Multiplayer mode on the other hand has you and another player choose between racing with speed characters like Sonic and Shadow, battling with Tails or Eggman, and being the first to find two pieces of the master emerald with Knuckles or Rouge. The multiplayer mode is fun, and adds to replayability if you have a friend who is good at the game with you.

In the stages and Chao Garden, you can receive emblems for completing certain tasks. There are a total of 180, and when they have all been collected you can replay Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1 but in 3D. It is a cool stage, but it doesn't work that well in 3D and doesn't feel like it's worth collecting 180 emblems for.

Overall this game is fun. It hasn't aged too well with it's weird character animations and cutscenes or slightly clunky controls, but you will have a good time when looking past those flaws.

The level design for sonic was amazing
Bosses are actually challenging and fun!

When a Sonic games becomes more challenging, it gets way more fun and it can be the best sonic game ever!

But the problem i have is

    Loud sounds
    Audio mixing being cheesy
    controls slippery
homing attack not functional sometimes but at least we don't need a assist for it and thats what i love!

    Totally recommend this game!

Sonic Adventure 2 is a very fun experience that everyone should try out.

The story, while being a little bit messy, gets the characters' personalities just perfect. Sonic acts like your typical 15 year old, cocky and more. Shadow acts and is a good villain. He has a very deep story arc that really makes me cae about him. Some people say he is edgy, and I disagree. In this game Shadow,

He has a very deep story arc that really makes me cae about him. Some people say he is edgy, and I disagree. In this game Shadow, at first, you might thing he is that, but when you discover why is he doing that stuff, you really get sad about him and most importantly, you care about him. It's not like Shadow The Hedgehog, where they made him an edgelord, and you basically don't care about him, but in this game, trust me, you will. The voice actors are really good. Ryan Drummond is literally the perfect Sonic, David Humphrey is my favorite Shadow, Jeniffer Douillard is a great Amy and more. Even though the sound mixing is really bad at times.

This game is divided into 3 gameplay styles: Action stages, shooting stages and the hunting stages.
Of course the action stages are evryone's favorite, icluding myself. They are so fun amd almost all of them never get old. The controls feel soooooo responsive, and almost all of them are pretty well designed. My favorite is City Escape.
The shooting stages are a lot of fun too. Even though they may be not as well designed as the action stages, they still have a lot of charm. The controls are pretty rough, but I just love beating the hell outta things.
The hunting stages are... ok. They really have a lot of flaws like only detecting one emerald at a time, the radar is too small or the stages are too big. But there's something that saves these stages from being really miserable. The controls. Both Knuckles and Rouge feel incredibly slick and good to control. Thanks to this, I have a lot of fun searching for the Master Emerald pieces. Don't get me wrong, at their worst, these stages are really meh but are their best, they are actually fun.

The soundtrack is probably the best in any Sonic game, almost all tracks are simply perfect. The chao garden is just... Great. The story, ok, it may be very chessy at points but I love the story in this games. It just feels like an Adventure.

In conclusion: This game is still fun to this day. Sure, some parts don't hold up after all these years, but to me, I really like this game. I consider it to be one of my favorite Sonic games.

Sonic Adventure 2 is the sequel to Sonic Adventure, who'da thunk right? Similarly to the first game we follow several characters, but here the characters are split up into two teams; the Hero team, including Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and the Dark Team, including new comers Shadow The Hedgehog and Rogue The Bat, as well as Dr. Eggman himself. There are three gameplay styles including your standard gameplay from SA1, being S P E E D shared between Sonic and Shadow, a worse version of the emerald hunting gameplay from the first game shared between Knucks and Rogue, and finally, a pretty easy if boring third person shooter section shared between Tails and Eggman. You may have realized that I don't seem to care much for a whopping 2/3rds of the gameplay styles here, but unlike Sonic Unleashed where I similarly only like a third of the gameplay, I find the non-Sonic gameplay to be fairly superfluous, they don't take 30+ minutes, they're not mind numbingly boring and they don't force a half baked combat system down your throat. The worst gameplay is undoubtedly the Emerald Hunting, it's pretty bad. Like the first game you must find Emeralds with a tracker, only now levels are way bigger and take way more time, they never lasted quite as long as the Werehog but man were not fun. Next on the chopping block is the shooting, it's pretty much the same as Gamma from SA1, if a little better, they're not quite as easy as Gamma but they're still pretty easy, a bit of platforming here and there, some mindless shooting and you're done, nothing that'll put you to sleep but nothing very engaging either, fairly middle of the road if you ask me. Finally there's the speedy go fast levels, these are predictably the best, they're great fun, especially the first Stage for the Hero Team, City Escape, which yes, is where the infamous "rolling around at the speed of sound" Song comes from... Which I love, unironically, it's a good song cowards! But yeah the gameplay is your standard Sonic affair, not quite as perfectly fluid and fast as Unleashed, not Automated to hell like Forces but not quite as janky as SA1, it's pretty great but some improvements could definitely be made, and they were in future titles.

The story revolves around Shadow in his first appearance, coming to earth to kill everybody... Yup. See Shadow has amnesia and believes his dead friend Maria asked him to take revenge on humanity after G.U.N, remember G.U.N? Killed her. Why Shadow would think Maria would ask for revenge and against all of humanity at that is beyond me, but it's fine, they straighten him out eventually. He's aided by Dr. Eggman who's doing the usual Eggman things and Rouge The Bat, a secret agent for G.U.N. This game also started the trend of people mistaking Sonic for literally anybody and everybody else, despite Shadow being red and black and Sonic being blue... Maybe humanity should be wiped out by Shadow. On the Heroes side, Sonic has to clear his name and he's aided by Tails and Knuckles because friendship is dope. This game introduces Gerald Robotnik, Eggmans grandfather, he doesn't do much outside of this game but hey, it makes it all the more confusing when Forces tries to convince you the world is made up of anthro's and not humans.

Adventure 2 carries a lot of flaws that the first game had, weird controls, a funky camera, bad gameplay sections and uh... interesting character animations and dialogue, but overall the game manages to be a more enjoyable time overall, be it it's slightly better gameplay or it's melodramatic story that actually lands a few of it's emotional beats, I find this game to be far more enjoyable than the first and it's the one I go back to more.

ALSO THAT SOUNDTRACK OH MY GOD THE FINAL BOSS? THAT SH*T IS JANKY AS ALL HELL BUT DAMN THAT SONG IS A BANGER, JUST MAKES YOU WANNA BEAT SOME WEIRD SPACE SQUID IN THE FACE WITH TWO GOLDEN HEDGEHOGS

Some aspects show it's age and the gameplay has it's weaker points making it not as SA1. But it's still a great title that with enough playtime can get most sonic fans and gamers to enjoy themselves.

The original Sonic Adventure was the highest selling game on the Sega Dreamcast. It made for not only a strong first impression of the console, but successfully launched Sonic back into the spotlight after being largely gone from the 5th Generation. While it was unfortunate that the Dreamcast didn’t last long, at the very least it was able to go out with one last big Sonic game. SonicThe original Sonic Adventure was the highest selling game on the Sega Dreamcast. It made for not only a strong first impression of the console, but successfully launched Sonic back into the spotlight after being largely gone from the 5th Generation. While it was unfortunate that the Dreamcast didn’t last long, at the very least it was able to go out with one last big Sonic game. Sonic Adventure 2 was a strong finish for the Dreamcast, as well as a good way to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Close to 20 years after its initial release, however, has certainly showed off more and more of the game’s flaws much like SA1. In spite of that, though, it remains one of the most popular games in the franchise, and one that is still worth looking into.
SA2 goes much deeper into its storytelling compared to SA1. Sonic has been framed for a crime he didn’t commit, all thanks to the new hedgehog in town Shadow, who has teamed up with Eggman and jewel thief Rouge the Bat to take over the world and, in Shadow’s case, get revenge on humanity. So it’s up to Sonic and friends to save the day. While I certainly applaud SA2 for striving towards a more ambitious story, the general storytelling itself is very clumsy, often mistranslated and filled with many holes and inconsistencies. The general presentation has definitely improved from last time, though, with actual cutscene choreography and more expressive performances. This would also be the first game to utilize motion capture, and while it’s certainly primitive it is a welcomed change from SA1’s canned animations. Visually the game looks great and the soundtrack once again delivers, this time using stage themes that reflect the character rather than the environment.
SA2 is structured similarly to SA1, where you get to play as multiple characters each with their own gimmicks. Compared to SA1, though, the number of gameplay style has reduced to just three: High-speed platforming with Sonic and Shadow, Mech shooting with Tails and Eggman, and Treasure Hunting with Knuckles and Rouge. This, along with the lack of hub worlds, make this a more focused game compared to SA1, but it’s not without its faults. The Speed stages are easily the best parts of the game, but they feel significantly more straightforward and flat compared to how dynamic stages were previously. The mech stages are much clunkier and more frustrating than Gamma’s, with Tails’ stages being the worst offender. The treasure hunting stages, however, are the worst parts of the game. It greatly reduces the usefulness of the radar system and makes many of the late game stages unnecessarily large and spacious, making it an absolute chore to complete. While mech and treasure hunting stages certainly have their moments, I can really only fully enjoy about 1/5th of the overall experience.
The chao garden makes a triumphant return from the original, and it’s been greatly expanded upon with the use of animals and chaos drives to increase your chao’s stats and physical characteristics, raising them to partake in mini games like races or karate matches. Unless you know how to exploit it, it’s easily the most time consuming, grinding part of the game. If that doesn’t appeal to you, you’re better off skipping it. The game also brings back emblems for you to earn which unlock Green Hill Zone when you collect them all.
Much like SA1, this game is a very mixed bag. It’s able to make much needed improvements from the original, while simultaneously creating new ones. I’d say I enjoyed this game about as much as I did SA1, but I still prefer SA1 overall. It’s still one of the better 3D Sonic titles out there, and I would say get the updated re-releases instead.

Let start with the obvious, the poor story, its about shadow wanting to wipe out man kind.......for some reason and sonic and his friends have to stop them and i have to admit, i LOVE the sonic/shadow stages these are why many consider it a classic, but then comes the knuckle/rogue and the tails/eggman stages. These stages are what makes beating this game a pain for example the knuckles stages where you look for pieces of the master emerald, not only is the climbing slow but knuckles runs really fast which is a problem for the camera (imagine mario 64 but mario runs 5x faster), and then the tails stages oh boy it is a real bore to play through this as the best way of locking on to multiple enemies is to hold the fire button but this weird beeping sound comes up when i hold the fire button. And boy there are some pointless filler content like racing (really?). i could list a lot more problems with this game but im going to sum it up, it is not a bad game the sonic and shadow stages is why i played the whole thing (and the chao garden), but it certainly doesn't deserve all the praise it gets. beat it and just play the fast stages Expand

There are three gameplay formats but the player no longer decides which one they want to play specifically which makes adapting to the control changes and new mechanics an unnecessary challenge. The kart racing segments function poorly and did not need to be included. Despite this, the returning mechanics don't take away from some of the new ones. Boring, except for the last in each campaign, bosses. There is no open world, which upset me greatly. And hell, you can’t just get into the Chao Garden.

I played Sonic Adventure and found that while it is nowhere near as amazing as i remembered in childhood, it still was enjoyable. The second game is NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD as everyone believes. In fact most of these reviews are purely based on nostalgia and not actually playing the game. The first fault i can point to in these upsetting times where reality has ruined a nostalgia praised game is the false advertisement in the game. THIS IN NO WAY REPRESENT ADVENTURE. There is no roaming of an overworld, no interacting with people, no searching for the next level. It is a series of levels with a loose (and pretty cliche, yet bafflingly stupid) plot.
The best part of Sonic Adventure 1 is that you were able to CHOOSE who you wanted to play as. Never did i want to be forced to play as Knuckles when I wanted to play as Sonic. In this game you are forced to play Knuckles treasure hunting levels more than Sonics running levels. Now i enjoy searching levels when i am in the mood to play them. But when you have no say in the matter, it gets borderline frustrating. Nothing kills the mood set after Sonic blases through a fast paced (yet somewhat glitchy) speed level than playing a slow search for damn-near-impossible to find shards or keys.
What's even worse is Tails/Eggman's levels being retooled to be robot mech shooters that are so slow and poorly made that it ruins the game. Tail's levels in the original Adventure were high-flying alternations of Sonic's levels. Now you're grounded and forced to fight with a barely responsive laser that hardly kills enemies without taking damage yourself. You come to a Sonic game for momentum that isnt bashed across your head without a clue how to navigate.
The next problem the game has is poor voice acting and editing. When a cutscene plays CHARACTERS TALK AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. It makes for astonishment. Really. Not to mention that Rouge and Shadow are terrible additions to the cast. Shadow is just an emo stereotypical dark Sonic. And Rouge is just annoying. The plot is also a minus as instead of disturbing a Chao protecting water god, Eggman, Rouge and Shadow control what is essentially the Death Star with Robotnik's face on it.
Now the controls trick you. At first they seem very responsive. Jumps and homing attacks land. However soon enough they flop. Homing attacks cause cheap deaths, don't land whatsoever and cause you to lose rings or stray you from the course. The camera is also against you altogether. Its faces away from the goal pans when it should be straight and is completely nonadjustable. Also swimming in the game is close to impossible. Breathing mechanics are awful as they are but they have the gall to make 2D airbubbles that you wont ever hit in time to breathe.
To make matters worse, the whole vision of Sonic is further strayed away from course. Sonic originally was a forest hedgehog saving his small woodland friends from enslavement at the hands of Dr. Ivo Robotnik (remember when he was called that and not stupid Eggman? A joke Sonic called him in Adventure 1 that wasnt supposed to be serious?) and protect his world? And each act was showing how closer and closer Sonic was getting to Robotnik's evil robotlike cities and world's? That damn near gone. Now its just random worlds that these characters visit and these character's are now jarringly existing in the "real" world entirely (for those who want to correct me and say that's how it was i Adventure 1, that's not entirely the case as the characters live in the Mystic ruins and visit the metropolis when it called for it). It makes no sense for a bunch of anthropomorphic cartoon animals to live in the real world. Games like Sonic Colors, Generations and Lost World, a game that really isnt as bad as people seem to say it is, fixed this. Overall this is where Sonic the Hedgehog started to decline in quality.
Overall, this game does not hold up AT ALL when replayed again. The controls are unresponsive, the characters introduced are awful, the voice acting phoned in, the story downright stupid and the new game mechanics just destroy any fun momentum or variety in the story mode. The only few improvements are the multiplayer and Chao garden and even those arent as good as they could be considering the Gamecube versio has better modes in both of those categories with more characters and better things for the Chao to do. But the story mode in the Gamecube version is even worse than this. Nostalgia loses again for this one. As for me, i will go play the original Sonic Adventure that got it right.

The only fun thing for me were the rails on the sonic and shadow levels nothing else. The story has many plot holes even though it's kinda descent. For a 2001 game might was a good game but it's really **** bad. I never had fun with it. It's just slippery, boring, buggy overall trash and WHY THE **** THE HUB WORLDS ARE GONE. they were lazy and they made the second game actually a lot worse damnnn on every aspect. Sonic adventure 7,5/10 sonic adventure 2 3/10. They destroyed the sequel in my opinion. 2,5 for the story and 0,5 for gameplay just hell nah. I heard a lot of people say that sonic adventure 2 has the best story. For me it s really descent and has a lot of plot holes and has things that does not even make Sense. I mean COME ON sonic and the secret rings has 100x better story. Btw I'm a sonic fan and . I don't hate the game becuase I hate Sonic. Sonic is my childhood Expand

El juego es malo, peor que pegarle a un padre en navidad. Lo mejor es usar el cd del juego como posa-vasos y jugar a parchis con tu chorba. Ahhh breo rules.

I don't understand why 'fans' rant and rave over this game. The game is glitchy as hell, camera angles are horrible, and the story is far worse than even that of the first game. The English dubbing is so awful, I can't believe they'd even bother putting it in the game. As a huge fan of the first Sonic Adventure game, this one absolutely fails to hit the mark in every way.

Sonic/Shadow: Hold up and jump occasionally. . .or grind and do nothing. Uninspired level design exasperates things. Tails/Robotnik: do the same with spotty jumping and gliding controls. Worry about time limit and chaining enemies with crappy A.I. Knuckles/ Rouge: Get lost in large levels with timed switches that demand percision. In 2001 Sega while being bored out of their minds made this awful trainwreck of a game. Sega was too lazy to fix the cutscenes so the characters lips don't match the dialogue. The controlls are really bad they're so stiff and clunky. There's three gameplay modes. Action, Shooting, and Treasure hunting nothing fun. This game is a waste of your time don't by it. Buy GTA, Spyro, Crash, Mario

Sonic adventure 2 is a great game to play but the only thing that needs to be fixed was the treasure hunting stages especially the radar system. Also why is tails in a mech and also his game-play was not fun, Eggman's gameplay was better.

Imo it was overhyped. It wasn't even a special, not even 15 minutes. Just a regular episode and Nickelodeon had this HUGE marketing promo for it?
