You could easily be playing this game for 60-70 hours. That’s absolutely insane for a platform game – but every single hour’s a fun one. If you own a Dreamcast, SA2 is one of the system’s essential titles.
  2. 100
The game is sweet music to all of your senses, combining visual and audio splendor to a degree that few adventures have achieved. This is one classic for the Dreamcast library that no one will forget.
  3. A fantastic game with an at-times atrocious camera system. Nevertheless, an incredible amount of extra features are more than enough to keep Sega's latest in the 'A' range.
  4. It's chocked full of speed and action throughout that should satisfy almost any Sonic fan.
  5. 94
If this is the last Sonic game in these declining Dreamcast years, it's satisfying to know that the DC didn't go out with a bang, but with a sonic boom.

The graphics in SA2 are truly next generation material, and Sonic's stages have never been faster or more intense.

A streamlined sonic that’s nearly as good as the originals but not quite.
  8. It isn't at the very top because the very best bits aren't in plentiful enough supply, but when the gameplay is good, there is nothing else on the system to match it.
  9. The 2nd best "Sonic The Hedgehog" game ever after Traveller's Tales' "Sonic R" for Saturn.
  10. While SA2 offers a wealth of gameplay styles, the freshness and depth which made Sonic Adventure so remarkable has hardly been improved upon.
  11. The ghosts of those original 2D Sonic titles are exorcised in the game's amazing pace, heart-pounding platform jumping action, and in the unyielding barrage of creatively designed levels.
  12. It's simple, robust gaming at its best.
  13. This is without a doubt one of the best 3D platformers I have ever played on the Dreamcast, or on any other console for that matter.
  14. A brilliant game but as you know, no game is perfect. Sadly in the case of Sonic Adventure 2, there’s frequently the feeling of ‘Ugh what a set up!’; if you know what I mean.

Sonic’s only real problem is the god-awful camera control. [Sept 2001, p.146]
  16. I liked SA2, but it could have been even better. If only they balanced it with a touch more quality in a couple areas in exchange for all the quantity.
  17. There's nothing that really gets you going. There's nothing addictive about it, save for a few rare moments when you hit that double loop or speed ramp. Otherwise, Sonic just gets blurred with every other platform/adventure game out there.
  18. It doesn't have the "wow" factor that the first game had and is somewhat forgettable after you have played it through.

Best 3D Sonic game I've ever played. Dreamcast rules, I still have mine! Fabio and Jugon Dream are morons, this game is excellent.

This is without a doubt my favorite game of all time. Oddly enough for a sonic game the best parts of this one were its awesome story and UNBELIEVABLE music. Gameplay for the majority is pretty smooth and fun, though camera angles and minor glitches can sometimes put some deterrence in it. Did i forget to mention the OUTSTANDING soundtrack. I'm serious, it's astoundingly good. I think you can still buy CD copies of it for 70-300 bucks. 300 bucks. For a DC soundtrack. I know it sounds ridiculous and probably wouldn't be worth it to most people but I would pay 1000 bucks for such a beautiful CD. Thankfully i got mine for under 100. I definitely encourage you to get this version over the ps2 remake. You can find Dreamcasts for like 30 bucks and this for around 20-25 used. This is such an awesome buy its ridiculous. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. AND DID I MENTION THE SOUNDTRACK??!?!?!?! Full Review »

Pros: The Sonic and Shadow stages are fast and fun; variety of characters to play with different goals to play for; fantastic visuals; excellent level design; multi-player is stellar. Cons: Frustrating camera; frequent framerate issues; Tails' and Eggman's stages are the weakest points in the game. Full Review »
