Like the Metroid titles that inspired it, the music, graphics, and world/enemy design are more than worth revisiting a few times a year. This may be Renegade Kid's best game yet, despite its relatively short length.

The game looks and plays well, and has enough modern influences to make it feel like it was a game that could have been on the NES, but is best suited for a modern handheld.

A bite-sized Metroid-like experience, Xeodrifter is a fun, exploration-heavy adventure from start to finish.

Its retro aesthetics adjust perfectly to its new ideas and despite its limited lifespan and very minimal plot, Xeodrifter has all the conditions for an intense and rewarding sidescrolling experience.

What's remarkable about it all is that Xeodrifter crams this much into only a few hours.

It's not an adventure for the faint of heart, but there's no reason that Xeodrifter should be overlooked by platforming fans – especially those missing a little Samus Aran in their lives.

Even though the routine is familiar, Xeodrifter still provides fun exploration augmented by nostalgia. A game doesn’t need to be groundbreaking to be entertaining, and Xeodrifter does an admirable job following the prescribed orbit of the classics in the genre.

Xeodrifter is a game with a heart, that can be seen despite of some naiveness in the level design and within the limits of a low budget production.

I encourage everyone to give this title a download, though, as it’s an absolute blast to play, despite its shortcomings.

Xeodrifter is a short but sweet title. It's got some solid platforming, a well balanced difficulty, and a fun weapon system. It's a bit on the short side but is fun while it lasts, especially if you're still fiending for some Metroid-inspired action.

Xeodrifter offers a metroidvania -like experience entertaining and complete. A retro game that is rather short but with good qualities for fans of 2D action-platforming.

It's an interesting rework of classic metroidvania mechanics, where the teleporting ability adds something new to the mix. It's a shame for the final part, too quick and clearly lacking the depth of the first half, and the general lack of content.

Xeodrifter is engaging and fun, a solid adventure very enjoyable on 3DS that lacks something that makes it truly unique.

Wearing its Metroid influences like a badge of pride, Xeodrifter's 2D exploration is equal parts fun and frustrating.

Xeodrifter is quite clearly inspired by Metroid, but lacks that game's depth, extensive gameplay and scope. Still, some platform fanatics who crave a challenge will be more than satisfied with Xeodrifter.

Xeodrifter isn't very inventive or creative, and unlocking bits of the map feels like busywork.

If you’re really hungry for a metroidvania but you expect something more than “some indie jam stuff” go for a much better Axiom Verge. [09/2015, p.69]

It creates a sense of mystery and makes you want to explore its interesting game world. It's a great albeit short adventure that will at the very least hold you until a new 2D Metroid arrives.
