    This game graphically is a massive leap forward, and it probably took a lot of effort to bring all 700+ Pokemon into 3D. But is this the best Pokemon game ever released? NO. I've been playing pokemon for 14 years, and I've played through EVERY single generation, With no bias to the older games or the newer games.
    X and Y have the worst Story yet.     X and Y have the worst Story yet. The "rivals" Are incredibly irritating dumbasses that ask to battle you every 5 seconds. The story at times is so cheesy you just have to face plant into your desk. When you're supposed to feel some form of emotion for your "rivals" It just ends up making you laugh your ass off at how badly done the story is. Now what intimidating group of criminals do we get this time? Team.... Flare. Join them and be fashionable! Or you'll just be one of the many to die in a mass genocide. Seriously this is the worst criminal group in the franchises history. The game is filled with things that are meant to be surprising, But just absolutely FAIL because you know who they will be from the get-go by their looks. The leader of Team Flare is SO obvious, as is the Champion. I feel as if the story was meant for stupid people, or children under the age of 10. The game is WAY WAY WAY too easy to complete as well. This game can be done by casuals in less then 16 hours, thanks to the broken experience share. Even with the experience share off this game is not a challenge. The legendaries (No surprise) also are the weakest of the Franchise. Very little backstory is behind them, and the third one Zygarde whats the history of him? Why is he in a cavem monitoring the ground? Or, Why is he even in the game? It's almost as if Gamefreak had to design a third legendary. This games campaign is hands down the worst of the franchise. "oh its intended for children" is not a reasonable excuse, when even children hate the story mode.

    So the campaign is terrible. X and Y make up for it with the large leap in graphics, easy level grinding after beating the game, and Vastly improved Multiplayer system. The multiplayer is much more balanced, and it's much easier to get into playing this game competitively then before. If it weren't for the Massive leap in graphics, and the very very well done multiplayer system, X and Y would be in trouble. X and Y is no doubt better then Black and White, But they land as the second worse title for this franchise.    … Expand

    Buy this game. If you are a Pokemon fan, tyou need it. It is a revolutionary Pokemon game. If you're new, get on board you don't know what you're missing. My only problem with it is that their is a lack of aftergame.

    Spent over 999:99 hours on this game on my second run breeding everything I could. While it lasted, it was fun, but once I stopped playing for a while, it was really hard to get back into. I hope they have more post-game features in the next canon series.

    I hadn't played pokemon for years before playing this. I didn't get in to much of the online vs battles but I really enjoyed playing through the story and highly recommend this for existing fans or new players. Pacing felt really good in this release which was one thing that sometimes felt slow or sluggish in earlier pokemon games I had played.

    Pokemon Y is the 6th generation of Pokemon games. With new 3D sprites and gameplay, Pokemon has never looked better. But it seems like Nintendo has dumbed down these games to appeal to a younger audience. I personally thought this game was much too easy. Even breeding for IVs, which was unknown territory for me before Pokemon Y, became easier than ever. I did enjoy the game, but it fellPokemon Y is the 6th generation of Pokemon games.     I swear I tried so hard to like this game. Black/White was amazing. Their sequel was kinda "okay, it's not bad", with lots of post-game content and countless monsters to catch, but this one... well, I'd say it's boring at its best. The main story isn't attractive, the characters are dull, town, routes and the pacing between gyms is very, very bad. It's the first Pokémon game that II swear I tried so hard to like this game. Black/White was amazing. Their sequel was kinda "okay, it's not bad", with lots of post-game content and countless monsters to catch, but this one... well, I'd say it's boring at its best. The main story isn't attractive, the characters are dull, town, routes and the pacing between gyms is very, very bad. It's the first Pokémon game that I actually had to force myself to finish.

    Technically, there are some serious issues that weren't (and I doubt they will) corrected yet. First is the lack of 3D support outside battles and cutscenes, second is the frame rate drops and horrible lag issues during battles (specially horde, team and legendary pokémon battles). There's no excuse for these. Even Zelda: ALBW delivered a very smooth gameplay at 60fps even with the 3D turned on - and it also has lots of stuff going on at the same time in the top screen.

    On the bright side, the game implemented a smart use of multiplayer functionalities on lower screen. Period. The other two options are extremely pointless and irritating. We could at least have a world map down there, or maybe a quick slot for HM moves, whatever, ANYTHING would be far more useful than gimmicks to play/pet with your Pokémon. Well, at least early EV training makes everything easier.

    I hope the OR / AS remakes correct half of the issues X / Y had. The franchise needs a proper installment on 3DS system.    … Expand

    My third favourite game. most of new Pokémon are a great. the graphics are snazzy and seeing the best Pokémon ever, Palkia in 3d is glorious! the mechanics are greatly improved and finally it's music is the best!

    i had bought this game on the first day it came out, and it was fantastic playing it for the first time and then the game just got better and better. there is batter graphics, more pokemon, mega evolutions, and character customization. you will really enjoy this game, i know i did.

    One of the best Pokemon Games to date in my opinion. Lots of great new features and the story was great. Also gives you lots of extra things to do post elite 4.

    Almost perfect pokemon game. Almost, because there is not that much to do after you complete it. I mean relatively, because this is still pokemon game and you still can easily invest hundreds of hours into it, But it could be more interesting than it is, I mean - a lot of previous installments were.

    Great visuals and online possibilities, but the game suffers in the departments of difficulty and post-game. So, basically, it is not very memorable and certainly not my favorite Pokémon game.

    It may not be the best Pokemon out there, it still is pretty good. Most of the new pokemon look really cool, and the mega evolutions are awesome. Gamefreak tried their best to try to please fans of the original games. I think they did a good job with that. The music is pretty good. I had an amazing experience in this game.     I don't know, I really liked this game but... It's easier than other Pokemon games I guess. It gives you 2 starter Pokemon, you're leveling up your Pokemon easily before the Victory Road/Elite Four with lots of quests and OP experience share system. When you're reached the Victory Road, if you played game the way should be played, you should have an OP team. After playing Pokemon Y,I don't know, I really liked this game but... It's easier than other Pokemon games I guess. It gives you 2 starter Pokemon, you're leveling up your Pokemon easily before the Victory Road/Elite Four with lots of quests and OP experience share system. When you're reached the Victory Road, if you played game the way should be played, you should have an OP team. After playing Pokemon Y, Pokemon Black felt harder than it should be.

    But I'm not saying "Game is easy, so it's a bad game.". Game is really great, I bought a 3DS for this game. It's easier, more playable and there are first generation Pokemon too.     The Goods: A great visual overhaul compared to generation 5. I have to admit that the world now is the most beautiful that us gamers have experienced over all 6 generations. All these buildings look superb, and every new town gives you a new feeling of adventure and joy when playing. Battles with trainers are as fun and tedious as ever, but the feeling of battling old pokemon(s) that you remember from earlier on in 3D (3 dimensional space) is just absolutely spectacular, and your nostalgia (assuming you've played previous games) will flood the dams of your soul. The scripting and text is funny and well written, and the story progresses at a decent rate. The battles are much faster, more visually appealing, and more intense. The music when you face Gym Leaders and the Elite 4 (+champion) are incredibly electronic and intense, and really puts the serious tone when you begin to fight them. Team Flare, the antagonist team of the series, comes in these nice stylish suits and are ready to change the world for the better(or are they?). Character customization is absolutely phenomenal, though you don't start with much in the beginning. Many things like the Battle Chateau and Restaurant battles are great ways to mess around. the Day Care is back, and it's also become way easier to train your pokemon to specific EV's, with the new minigame set (super training). Pokemon-Amie is a splendid little application that helps you get closer to your pokemon by giving them food, and playing minigames with them - which, to be honest, was actually more fun than I expected. The amount of good things in this game is absolutely splendid, so let's take a look at the other side.

    The Bad: There aren't very many seriously bad things about the game, but there certainly are a few. One of the main fallbacks to this game is that it lags big-time when you push the 3D slider up during a battle (one of the few times you can access 3D). Although I don't like using 3D for my battles that often, it'd still be nice to use it during times when you face a stronger or more significant opponent without the lag. Another problem that I've noticed is that this game is somewhat easy. Without the addition of difficulty choices before starting the game (which I would've recommended), you start with a relatively easy conquest to become the champion of the Kalos Region. I was around 5-10 levels above the enemies I were facing, even up to the champion! You should know how not-fun it is to battle and beat them really easily ...no challenge doesn't grant you that much fun. The last concern and issue that I had for this game is the fact that the postgame content is as plentiful and strong as the postgame content in past pokemon games. Sure you can catch a few legendaries, go to a distant town, play/trade online, but that isn't going to last you THAT long. It isn't that big of a problem, but what I'm saying that it could have been better.

    Overall: I feel like this is one of the strongest first-party 3DS games to come out (as anticipated) in 2013. This, paired along with a couple of real life friends with copies of X will prove to be one epic sight to see. I have enjoyed this game for a long time, and even though the battles lag and the postgame content is not that strong, I will continue to play this game for quite a while!

Engaging, fun, beautiful, and is considered by some, including me, to be the turn for pokemon games that will bring them to even higher standards in the future. So much content for your money, although I wish there were a way to get your pokemon from older generations to your current game without paying extra.     The jump to 3D... is ok. It's story isn't that good. Mega evolution breakes the game. However the new pokemon are awesome, and the graphics are great. All in all a mixed bag.

    It's Pokémon. It's perfect. Play this game even if you have to literally steal a 3DS and the game. A perfectly realized world that's immersive and tactical. There's near endless replay value and a slew of new Pokémon that make the game better overall. You owe it to yourself to plan this game. If you've never played a Pokémon game before, this is the perfect gateway drug (I mean game).

    The game is almost perfect for pokemon wi-fi battles!!! It have a frame rate so poorly and the 3d effect is so lame... I'd like the pokemon has fewer polygon to make the game in full 3d

    The graphics are stunning, filling up the pokedex is very challenging, and the online capabilities(battling and trading) has never been more inviting.

    Pokemon X and Y are the first main series Pokemon games that are 3, as Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD got to it first. The game does have some amazing graphics for the 3DS, as this game looked as good as Kirby: Triple Deluxe. The story was very meh in my opinion, with the villain team's leader was much more interesting than the villainous team, with them being, quoted from a videoPokemon X and Y are the first main series Pokemon games that are 3, as Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD got to it first.     Very good, really! It has many brand-new features, such as Mega Evolution, Pokémon-Amie, Super Training, awesome graphics and 3D scenes and battles and 69 new Pokémon, however, to achieve the Ultimate Goal, to catch 'em all, you really get bored in about 200-250.

The new pokemon include some great creatures and a lot of previous pokemon are obtainable too, thanks, partly, to the global trade station, allowing players to trade pokemon with anyone in the world.     This game is so amazing it is unbeliveable the graphics are leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors, and it comes with heaps of new features, far too many to go into. if you have ever played Pokemon, this game is a must buy

    This game is one of my favorite 3ds games, It puts the 3d effect to good use and I like the new game mechanics. I haven't been playing Pokemon that long as some people have but I'm glad I got into this franchise when I did. Fun game

There are so many Pokemon that even if you prefer the older generation(s) you will have no problem getting ahold of a really cool team of your favorites.

Almost every aspect of X and Y has been nailed. However a couple of flaws are present: One is the Mega Evolutions, they kick ass, however they are broken, I have been sweptGameFreak borderline nailed Pokemon X and Y.     Bad: Too few new pokemon as well as too few Mega options, many of which are lent to the already most powerful monsters in the game. In total, the lowest number of new pokemon in a game.
    Metagame is not even remotely balanced to the point where community battle simulators provide a more entertaining experience.
    Story is almost nonexistent. The antagonistic team is crunched into two short back to back sequences which are resolved by non-player characters off screen after you battle the villains.
    Pacing is poor, aforementioned flare sequence and the oddly spaced gyms. Early gyms being very far apart and having pokemon level caps too close for comfort before they cease listening and later gyms being crammed narrowly together.
    Many characters are unremarkable and easily forgettable, including the finale battles. Side characters continue to be a nuisance chopping up progression.
    Post game content is a shadow compared to some previous gens.

    Though at face value there may seem to be more negatives posted above, the severity of most of the negatives isn't crippling and what the game does well it does very well. I look forward to the next addition where the foundation made for XY expedites a more content packed follow-up.    … Expand

The classic sprite oriented 2D world transitioned perfectly into a 3D world. The NPCs actually move around, and the cities actually feel alive compared to cities in previous games. This game follows the same standard Pokemon formula. You choose a started that is either grass, water, or fire. Then you travel around the region challenging all the Gyms, and having to deal with the evil team that is always trying to do something evil. In this game, that team is Team Flare. A group of people focused on creating a perfect, beautiful world. No matter what the cost. Although the main story in this game is shorter than the others, it is still enjoyable and loads of fun to play through. And I think that the completely redesigned game world and redesigned gamely completely makes up for the lack of some story. The new region, the Kalos region is one of my favourites, second to the Sinnoh region. It consists of three main areas, central, costal, and mountain Kalos. Each different section of the region is diverse from the others in its own way. People in the central sector seem to be more consumerist. With cafes, stores, and places to shop taking up almost every street. Costal Kalos seems tone more laid back, and smarter. This is where the research senators are, and its also a hot spot for swimming and surfing. People living in the mountain Kalos region seem to be very focused on becoming strong trainers, more so than people in the other two thirds of the region. All together, Pokemon Y is a huge step in the right direction for the franchise. Bringing with it an entirely new graphical approach to the game, soma awesome new features, and of course, a plethora of new Pokemon. As the first game in generation VI, it makes me hopeful for that else this generation, and future gens have in store for us.… Expand

    Visually it is amazing. I know Pokemon games tend to see big graphical improvements from one generation to the next but I don't think anyone expected anything like this. Battles look amazing, some of the animations are top class as well.

    As always we have seen new Pokemon but a lot less then what we have previously seen but with the introduction of the fairy type and new type combinations it has mixed things up.

    The main problem with the game is the difficulty AKA EXP share. With it on you can beat the game easily. I was 10 levels higher than the champion in my first play through. With it off you find yourself quickly out leveled. This means to play it normally you need to constantly turn the thing off and on again.

    Not a problem but something I don't like is the mega evolutions. I think its more gimmicky then anything else. An excuse to cave into pressure to make Charizard a dragon type.    … Expand

    I have not owned a Pokemon game in some time and when this came out I got it to see what had happened to Pokemon while I have been away, and I am glad I did with new Pokemon that are quite good story is quite like the others. The 3D part of it is good and I loved the time I spent with it, you should really give this Pokemon a go, you will not be sorry

The poke bank came out for a free trial just to trade pokemon in X and Y ONLY after the free trial you have to pay $5 a month. It added new strategies in game-play especially being immune to Dragon type Pokemon. I was quite disappointed however with the lack of new Pokemon, there being only 70 new ones. Another new aspect of game-play the 6th generation brings is Mega Evolution, which brings old Pokemon back into the limelight by giving them powerful new forms and makes the most popular creatures become even more godly. As much as I like Mega-Evolution, I wish some of the Pokemon permanently evolved that way. One of the major problems I had with Pokemon Y is the difficulty. While it is easy enough for new players to make their way through the main game and then veterans are more targeted to the competitive battling post-game, I would have much preferred a choice to chooses between harder difficultly levels. This is by far the easiest Pokemon game to date which at some points in the game made things boring. The hours of game-play also seem significantly reduced compared to the games before (BW2).     The overall plot of the game is bland and feels like a kindergarten put it together, I don't know if they made it as a joke or it was a serious idea. The concept is in style, witch the plot is that a group of people want's to kill all Pokémon in the world by using a huge machine, where fashion is the goal.
    In the aftermath of the game I was curious if they where making this to insult Peta's latest accusations on how people are trained to mistreat and kill animals through Pokémon. One can wonder.

    Now the most important factor to a game like Pokémon, how much different is it from the previous installment and how how much of an improvement is the game compared to previous titles. Pokémon X and Y lacks some of the old time charm as nostalgia goes but they have sure answered the calls of the more competitive players, witch is a good thing.

    Training your Pokémon is easier, more fluid then ever before witch is the biggest improvement since the last title.
    There are some new 3D functions that looks like a way to appeal to the casual gamers with mini-games and a mode where you can pet and feed your Pokémon, almost like a Tamagochi witch is a really nice function for the more non-competitive players. Post Game as it's called have always been a big role in the Pokémon franchise and sadly this lacks it a lot, same for replay value.

    After you are done with beating the Elite Four the game itself is pretty much dead, yes you can gather the last items, level up your Pokémon for competitive but the story arc itself and the challenge of Elite Four is non-existent , as nothing changes and that can be a drag.

    The connectivity of the game is great and somehow the best in the franchise, it feels like I'm back with a game boy pocket trying with a cable to trade Pokémon with my friends out in the yard and that is really well done. All you have to do is to use the internet functions to trade randomly or with friends within a couple of seconds. It's smooth and fun.

    How does the Pokémon look in each generation is an important factor of Pokémon, it's a vital question for most fans of the series, can it be that the 3D visuals clouds our judgement?
    Probably to an extent, there are not many new Pokémon in this game compared to previous titles and a few of them are really lacking when it comes to it's 3D appeal, some of the Pokémon does look the same overall and the pix-elated arms and legs of some Pokémon can be really bland.

    When you play through the game for the first time you will probably notice that most Pokémon you encounter is actually not new ones, witch is a big disappointment overall.

    Pokémon Y get's the job done as Pokémon goes but I do think the staple of the series need a overhaul soon as it's getting old and repetitive. I give Pokémon Y an 6/10    … Expand

    No game is perfect, but this game was great! i love mega evolving my amphoros, he looks awesome with hair. i thought the exp. share was overpowered, but if you really dont like it turn it off. Easiest game in the series, only took me 2 days to beat, but there is plenty to do afterwards.

    Also no multiple save files or new game +, this game is in the 3DS a powerful handheld with SD support yet the game can't handle multiple save files? sorry that's a money grab tactic want to replay the story? sure you have 3 options:
    1 delete all your data so you can start over.
    2 purchase the other version you don't have
    3 wait for the pokébank to store your pokémons and transfer them to a new file , the only problem is that this 3DS app has an annual price charge.
    Pokemon XY is not a bad game but it's lacking in post game and not be able to replay the game just sucks.
    I recommend waiting for pokémon Z and see if they add extra content and features.    … Expand

Let me start off with this: Just....amazing. Pokemon Y is without a doubt the current epitome of the Pokemon franchise (don't worry Emerald, you're still #1).
    The game impressed more than I thought it would; I    Welp, after receiving Pokemon Y as a Christmas gift, I finally beat the game on January 1, 2014 (1 down, 99 to go). Because of this, I am now coming forward with this review. Let me start off with this: Just....amazing. Pokemon Y is without a doubt the current epitome of the Pokemon franchise (don't worry Emerald, you're still #1).
    The game impressed more than I thought it would; I suppose you say it blew my expectations out of the water. The cutscenes were very well done actually in Pokemon Y (an improvement over the BW2 ones). Especially with the 3D visuals; those certainly appeared as nothing short of spectacular.
    Pokemon Y (along with X) came out with a total of 69 brand new pokemon (in addition to 3 possible rumored ones), which brought the overall total number of pokemon to 718. These included some favorites (ex. Greninja, Goomy, and Hawlucha), and others...not so much (ex. Klefki....). Regardless, the new installments seemed to have had a good variety of pokemon to choose from, given that many pokemon from previous generations were also available to catch (for example: my team consists of Chesnaught, Pidgeot, Blaziken, Blastoise, Hawlucha, and Lucario; don't judge me, I make the "fighting-type" overload work).
    Another thing, Mega Evolutions are extremely powerful. Ain't no stopping you if you got the mega evos (if you what I mean). Seriously, the only 2 NPCs that managed to beat me AFTER I had control of "Mega Evolution" (I mainly cycled between Lucario, Blaziken, and Blastoise) were Siebold and Diantha (both of the Pokemon League).
    Anyways, the story (I won't spoil, don't worry) was alright too. I will admit that the story wasn't as great as the one of the Black/White versions, I could relate to Y's story pretty well (especially when I seemed to be a complete jacka** to the NPCs in the game). Also, I don't think that the Team Flare boss was "one-dimensional" by any means.
    I also liked that there was a plethora of Internet references thrown in there, including:

    "Meow, Meow, I can haz cheezburger, Meow?"

    The Verdict

    This game is essentially the same as any other Pokemon game, except with stupid foreign kids talking about pok-emon. The game is too easy and plays too slow; it takes 10 seconds to capture a Pokemon, and if it fails, you have to redo it. Overall, the Fairy Type is a dumb idea, because it changes the basic composition of past generations. If it played like Black/White 2, it would be a 9 or 10.

    Oh my god, this is truly the best Pokemon game to date. Game Freak put in so much that we've been dying for in Pokemon games for years. I recommend this game to everyone. Even if the Team plot feels a bit forced, it's still a blast to play. Lots of replay value, and it's miles better than Pokemon B/W and even the fantastic Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. 10 out of 10.

The addition of mega evolution was a good leap for a new generation, but disappointing to those of us who remember Digimon, who think it resembles digivolving a bit too much. The scale of the world makes exploring everything exciting and leaves tons of areas and puzzles for you to explore. Over all the best new Pokemon game yet.

    The online chat feature surprised me. What I liked about Pokemon XY above all is the improved online Battle It is a great strategy game overall. But I think needs a lot of update for customization a larger region for pokemon to catch and as well as improvisation for Pokemon Amie. The Pokemon Amie mini-games is very tiresome.

    A wonderful addition to the series that adds new twists and turns in its gameplay to the mix. My only complaint is that the story and post-game's a bit lacking. But overall, it didn't hinder my enjoyment much and this game still gave a lot of new things to offer.

However, this game proved me wrong, and I even like it more than Black2 to my surprise. The only bad thing I have against the game is the lag caused by battling, veeeery noticeable on 3VS3

    Other than that, it's a stellar addition to the Pokémon series, its formula relatively unchanged. The addition of the Player Search System makes for quick, accessible online play. Mega Evolution introduces a new layer of strategy in the Pokémon universe.

    In short, Pokémon X and Y could definitely be a lot better, but Pokémon fans should enjoy it all the same. It clearly marks a new era for Pokémon and whatever remakes are to come will certainly improve on this impressive foundation to a more beautiful world.

    Pokemon Y is a stunning game for the 3DS. The way you interact is great. You can change clothes and more. New artwork. The characters are no longer look like pixels. Mega evolution changes your pokemon and make them stronger.

    I thought this game was a great Pokemon game. It was not as good as Soul Silver or Emerald, but it gave me the nostalgia necessary for it to be entertaining to a 19-year old boy. It tries too hard to have a meaningful campaign, but its effort does not take away from its classic game play.

    This game is perfection. Just when you thought that Pokemon was over and losing its charm, they threw this at us and it has been something many have absolutely loved!
    When the game does lack things to do after you complete the game, since you no longer can call up friends like its predecessor. It surely makes up for it in graphics and beauty in this gorgeous game.

    1. all of the gym leaders only have 3 pokemon. 2. Half of the gyms would look amazing in 3D which unfortunately they did not allow for it to be on outside of some battles. 3.     The amount of pokemon or pokes in this game is humongus! It's so many pokes to catch I don't even know where to begin. Breeding Eevee is fun, well not fun, but has to be done to get all of them.

    The graphics are stunning compared to the others. I've read reviews saying that the 3D thing that 3DS has is terrible, well 3D in general is a gimmic so, I don't care. What is good though is that they focused on the game it self and not the 3D gimmic that is popping out of your screen.

    The music is good, i get pumped in every E4 battle. And compared to the other generations it is good.

    Now the most antisipated is the combat. It is great, and it doesn't feel like you have to rush the combat because it is so boring. It is entertaining to watch and you can almost feel the power in the enemy attacks.

    The reason why it isn't a 10 is simply because it doesn't allow you travel to other regions, and so far upon the release, a lack of trading with older games, and a lack of legendaries.    … Expand

    - Newly updated pokemon with decent designs this time - Mega evolutions and Super training - Beautiful soundtrack making use of the 3DS audio capabilities - Online battling is intense and is worth it after breeding, ev training etc - Wonder Trade: Send a Bidoof for a chance to get anything remotely better :) - The amount of girls (especially japanese)    Pros:

    I played Pokemon X now for about 100 hours and can summarize my experience like this: It is a nice game with great visuals for a Gameboy game and especially for a Pokemon game but it could have been much better if it wasn't for the far to easy difficulty and a few inconsistencies when it comes to the user interface.

    I played every Pokemon game from day one until today. Pokemon X/Y is    I played Pokemon X now for about 100 hours and can summarize my experience like this: It is a nice game with great visuals for a Gameboy game and especially for a Pokemon game but it could have been much better if it wasn't for the far to easy difficulty and a few inconsistencies when it comes to the user interface.

    I played every Pokemon game from day one until today. Pokemon X/Y is the easiest of all! It is just a cakewalk. I do not understand why they did not offer a difficulty setting. The only thing one can do is make the game a bit more challenging by not using the new XP-Share. The new XP-Share gives all Pokemon in the party the same XP as the fighting Pokemons base XP and not like in the older games where just the Pokemon who was holding the XP-Share got a part of the XP the fighting Pokemon got. I in fact recommend every experienced Pokemon player to not use the XP-Share.

    Another thing I did not like is the fact that the game got delivered with a show stopper bug that could occur after saving the game in certain areas of Lumiose City! However Nintendo released already a patch for that. First time for me that I had to update a Gameboy game. I guess the good old times now are gone on this gaming platform as well where one could get a game and expected it just to be nearly bug free. I do not count in minor bugs.

    Beside that I had some minor issues with the user interface. For example in some menus one can not use the shoulder buttons to switch pages even so they are not used for anything else at that moment.

    I still appreciated Pokemon X/Y a lot, but it could have been so much more!    … Expand

PSS, Wonder Trade, Full 3d battling, mega evolution being more about strategy than breaking the meta game, super training, pokemon amie, friend safari, the kalos region itself, the beautiful new pokemon designs, the solid and balanced variety of pokemon, and the continued incentives to train multiple pokemon make this an incredible amount of fun and it may sound like blasphemy but I can't see myself going back to any of the previous gens. This is the game gen 5 wanted to and failed miserably to be. Seriously after playing pokemon black, i was THIS close to giving up on the series. 35 hours of gameplay on pokemon black and I really didn't think I'd ever want to play another new version in the series. Poor new pokemon designs, a region that was too busy and unremarkable, the battle system tried to bring pokemon to life but with the DS's hardware limitations...at least to me it was an ugly result. I'd given up hope. This game did much more than just restore it. I can tell you that much. I haven't been a fanatic since gen 3 and now the old feelings are all back. Once the game is over there's not as many areas to explore as before, but you can still do a few side quests, hunt down ALOT of otherwise unobtainable rare pokemon in friend safari's, raise the ultimate Pokemon with much less frustration than before thanks to theThe best iteration in the whole series, thanks to many new features, online ease, wonderful visuals, and great exploration.     A very good start to a generation and does a much better job the B/W 1. One of the best pokemon games but I feel that Platinum, Emerald and B/W 2 were better.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon Y features 69 new pokemon and 28 new forms to play around with. It is the first pokemon to be fully 3 dimensional and a great and easy transition into the 3D environments possible with the 3DS, pokemon Y makes use of the handhelds capabilities by throwing the player into a large, diverse and lush world with enough there to make the story an enjoyable play through with some darker convention being at work and some brand new mechanics that are sure to change the way the meta game function.

    The presentation of the game is very well delivered with the design of each pokemon looking like a significant improvement from the previous titles, the world looks very detailed and sharp as well with the theme of beauty definitely making its appearance through out the region of Kalos. While some areas are better than others in the game there are places that do not feel so inspired and a lot of the towns have many repeated buildings and NPC interactions as the next town making it feel a little dim at at points of the game however its a solid looking game.

    The game play is surprisingly fast with the battle animations lasting no longer than maybe 3 seconds, this is also complimented by the smooth animations and particle effects give the game a atmospheric edge however its hard not to notice that the 3D function should not be in use at all as the frames tend to drop with it turned and sometimes they drop even because a larger pokemon with more dynamic movement is in field. The battles play out nicely and the story progression has a nice pace with it starting out very fast then a steady drop allows the player to build up an idea of what pokemon to use and continue on to the next challenge overall the mechanics work very well even with the addition of a brand new typing and evolution that occurs only during battle and while they both may seem like they could break the current meta game we all know of I am excited to find out about new strategies being used especially since dragons no longer have any effect on fairies.

    The game does have a few flaws to go over and the first one that stood out to me instantly while playing was that while the region is bigger than i initially thought, there was a huge lack of secret areas to explore or any major routes that could only be taken after defeating the pokemon league however *spoiler* the amount to do after clocking the game is lacking and there are many features that you wish they would have actually changed or developed further for example they did not implement any Co operative play in the battle maison which really should have been there helping the pokemon series to really push forward into the multilayer and yes I know the bottom screen has the player search menu which in my opinion is a great step up allowing you to trade and battle friends anywhere however the co-op needed to be there to add more to the game. Another feature that I though could of been implemented into the game was an on-line/ local safari co-op mode and they clearly though about it just not in the way we were expecting instead it rewards the player for having a lot of friends which is coll because you can find different pokemon depending on the friend however this was done poorly and could of been expanded for example let the player create the safari zone they want their friends to play in and choose what pokemon should be in it depending on the ones you have caught and the typing this would have a lot a lot more value to the experience of post game. The amount of legendaries you catch is also seriously lacking with a total of 3 to go for and 2 of them being 1st gen it really does not satisfy (at least change the bird for the one of the Regis or genies).

    Overall Y is a very good transition to a new generation of not only pokemon but mechanics and art style, the direction is good however it needs the extra push in content to keep us playing after defeating the league as not everyone likes to grind pokemon with the pure intention of pitting them against others on line.    … Expand

This game is on the next level, i love it, i love the fully realized 3d world that game freak have managed to create, battles are now also in 3d and Pokemon moves have more of a punch than ever.

    Personally i do not play with the 3d feature on but that    I have to say since the day that Pokemon X & Y came out there has not been a day go by where i've not played for a minimum of 3 hours. This game is on the next level, i love it, i love the fully realized 3d world that game freak have managed to create, battles are now also in 3d and Pokemon moves have more of a punch than ever.

    Personally i do not play with the 3d feature on but that doesn't in anyway alter the gameplay for me, it great either way.

    The content in Y is spread out superbly, i was playing the game for a couple of hours before i hit the first Gym, it was nice to explore the new areas without rushing, take in the scenery, smelling those roses, every aspect of the gameplay has been improved in this new generation, from the Pokemon's animations, music, save times, load times and online features, there is a strong social aspect to the game, trading and battling with other trainers online.
    As for the story, its your usual fill your Pokedex and stop a the bad guys bit.. Still doesn't detract from the fun though.

    Pokemon fans will be pleased to know that Pokemon from all generations make an appearance in this title X & Y) and for me there is nothing more nostalgic than getting my hands on Pikachu, Blastoise, Bulbasaur and Charizard complete with Mega Evolution, a feature that allows you to evolve your Pokemon to an extra stage.

    One of the features that makes me return each day is the "Wonder Trade" system, a feature that allows you to trade a Pokemon randomly with anyone playing the game on the internet, you never know what you might get, could be a lvl 1 starter Pokemon or a higher lvl mid-endgame Pokemon, this is accompanied with normal trade so you can see the Pokemon you and the person you're trading with are getting. All together good fun, and helpful in light that you "gotta catch em all"

    This game is a must have for fans of the series and newcomers to the series, its a brilliant game jammed packed with content, there is always something to do.

    My review would not be complete without a criticism, and that for me is the Pokedex system, this system organizes your Pokemon by region rather than them all being together, something I find irritating, on top of that you cannot tell whether or not you own a Pokemon you receive via trade unless you look through all of the Pokemon you own and spot a duplicate, this is annoying to me, its hard to keep all your Pokemon organized effectively. There needs to be a "Auto Sort" or a "Find duplicates" Feature. There is also never enough space in boxes for Pokemon, unless of course you pay for the online service "Pokemon Bank" a service provided in browser that offers you 3000 spaces at a cost of real money .

    One more thing worth mention is the "game breaking bug" this bug (for some people) will not allow them to continue playing after saving in the main city, and renders the game useless, people report the game freezing up and once your 3DS has been restarted the issue persists. Articles can be found about this all over the web, Nintendo are aware and i assume a patch is incoming to fix this issue.

    At conclusion though this game is brilliant and shouldn't be mistaken for a kids game, i'm 27 and not a huge fan of the Pokemon universe but the fact remains Pokefan or not, this is just a good game.

The game is inspirational- it truly conveys the feeling of an adventure. Of growing alongside friends,Pokemon X/Y- generation 6- is outstandingly beautiful. The story is incredibly mature, the battles more challenging than ever before, and the world breathtaking- I literally found myself gasping as the camera would sweep to the massive, beautiful structures scattered throughout Kalos. The game is inspirational- it truly conveys the feeling of an adventure. Of growing alongside friends, making memories, and coming to love the Pokemon you travel with- Pokemon brought alive like never before.

    However, given that this game has some rather nasty bugs to them (the save-game corruption glitch when you save in certain towns) and    As a standard pokemon game on it's own, it's decent enough. The story is a familiar trend that many seasoned pokemon fans will remember, the battle system is nicely updated and the overhaul of the graphics themselves are a welcome change to the series.

    However, given that this game has some rather nasty bugs to them (the save-game corruption glitch when you save in certain towns) and the lack of 3D in the overworld all serve to bring this title down significantly. A deeper analysis of the system shows that when the 3d effect is on and in battles, the game engine doesn't seem to like rendering it and as such there are noticeable flickers from the frame-rate drop which leads me to believe that the reason of "we wanted it to be beautiful" doesn't seem to hold much water. This is not surprising given that there IS a cultural issue here in that it's often that you'll have someone say something untrue if it would lead to them not losing face amongst their peers... and since Pokemon has a global impact there is a giant amount of pressure on the developers to save face. However, all that said the more likely reason why 3D was disabled was that these other clues noticed make me believe that the game's engine was poorly optimized. There is a ray of hope here in that it is now possible to patch games post-release but for a game to suffer from these difficulties and with such a high-profile franchise such as Pokemon, this could be the stinker in the series for failure to live up to the buzz that was generated during development.

    Still, it's a decent game in and of itself so it's not a total wash but the failings here are a bit too hard to overlook. It's a shame because the 3DS needs some solid franchises to help solidify it's presence in the gaming market as the game's library has and still remains it's most pernicious negative.

    Gameplay, well, it's pokemon. And it's end-game content is about on par with the other games... so, it's not really anything new or spectacular since the 3D effect being off most times leaves one wondering why they even bothered with the 3D in the first place.    … Expand

    What can i say that hasn't been said. This game is epic and has quickly climbed its way up my pokemon game ranking list.. I would say it sits at the top spot HOWEVER it is tied with Pokemon Soul Silver for first place. I just cant dismiss the nostalgia of soul silver and i really wish that x and y had 2 countries and 16 badges to collect.

    MY ONLY gripe with this game is that i waited SO long for a 3d pokemon game.. and its pretty much not even in 3D. I understand why mind you.. It would have been laggy in outdoor areas. BUT I play with my 3d slider on all the time in all of my games and I was actually extremely disappointed to find that half of this game didn't even use the effect.

    The whole point of the slider is to have the choice to play in 3d or not so i really would have preferred them to include the 3d visuals even if the frame rate wasn't quite up to it outdoors.. it would have still been great to see 3D in houses, pokemon centers and Gyms

    But the 3d problems aside the game is a blast to play.. in fact its just as much fun as red version was when i was little.. Im 25 now and pokemon still knows how to tickle my fancy. this game should NOT be missed weather you are a pokefan or not.

    DO NOT make the mistake of thinking that pokemon is a childish game.. its depth is unprecedented when you actually understand the game mechanics and with the added social and online features its a breathtaking experience. One of the best 3ds games to date for sure!    … Expand

I had skipped Gen 5 of pokemon and got out of the whole series for a while; pokemon Y is a refreshing jump back in and captures the magic of series perfectly the battles are fun, raising a team is great, and nintendo finally figured out how to do online right. Some of the NPCs are a little lack luster inIn my time in the game so far, 50hrs, not once have I had so much fun in recent years.     I also love the new storyline i didnt expect it being a little bit dark with it being a pokemon game but obviously not too dark with it being a kids game.
    Also the mega evolutions i think is a really cool idea just wished there was a more variety of different pokemon that could use them.

    My only few issues with this game is.
    My main con is I dont like the new EXP ALL. Alot of fans are loving this new feature where i dont because i feel this game has been made too easy as i have not lost a battle the whole game even against the elite 4. and after the first play through i have a pokemon at level 83 with the rest of my team over level 70. If you like to do a good grind you will be over powered for the game i was always between 10-20 levels above the gym leaders which took the challenge out of the game so by the 6th or 7th gym i stopped grinding to make the game a bit more challenging but by the time i came to the elite four most of their pokemon were one hit wonders and i did not even use the mega evolution once.
    Second of all with the Elite 4 i felt the choice of types of pokemon were not that great where white and black were challenging and this game was not.
    Last of all i dont know if it because people have not discovered more to do yet but i cant seem to find much to do once you have completed your first play through. I found mewtwo & Moltres easily enough with all i know is there is only one legendary left. Plus you also have the mega stone to find as well but because i have not found much use of mega evolutions because of the lack of difficulty i have not bothered finding them.

    To sum this game up. Its worth a buy it is a huge step up from the previous games and it kept me glued to the game for about 30 hours or so but i have lost interest once defeating the elite 4 for the first time because i felt the game was too easy where in previous games i was always wanting to go back for more to make my team better    … Expand

    Good: battle animations are great, the game is finally 3D, music is fantastic, it's very addicting, online battling and trading is awesome
    Bad: pretty easy, broken xp share system, graphics not so good in overworld, Lumiose City is terrible with its bad camera and easily getting lost cause it looks the same everywhere,
    I'd say 9/10. If it weren't so easy I'd have given it 10/10

Just got the game yesterday, after the job and man I just used almost 4 hours playing it with the Mini-games from Pokémon Amie AND Super Training. When I realized, It's Like 2 am and I had to work on next day! Yes, spent a lot of time just in the EV training and Amie mini-games to get boosted XP in battles (If you pokémon is happy, full and you have played games with it, It will have some little sparks in the Amie mode, it's the signal that IT will gain boosted xp points in battle). By the way, I just spend hours and didn't even reached the first gym.

    Just today in the Lunch break I had time to go and beat the first Gym! But only this. After the job it's provable I'll spend more hours doing mini-games and training my team, maybe getting my Kanto Starter (already got Torchic).

    Pokémon X (what I get) is a really good game from the start. Instead of Running to beat all the gyms I'm taking my time. Also, it's a good game for the genwummers, since in the SECOND pokémon you SAW (but not is able to catch) in the over-world is from Gen 1. And in the first tall grass you had a chance to get ANOTHER Gen 1 Pokémon (IF you buy pokéballs BEFORE leaving the town AFTER getting your starter).

    To tell the truth, I just ran into 4 pokémon from Gen 1 in Pokémon X, one from Gen 4, Three from Gen 5 and TWO from Gen 6 All of this in the FIRST FOREST.

    If you don't like the new pokémon just don't catch them. there is plenty of Old School Pokémon from the previous generations. 10 Different species of Pokémon JUST in the first forest.

    I'll not be talking about the graphics or music, tons of users already spoke about it.

    I played Black 2 and Loved the way the game made the story flow, but sometimes I got to start to grind with is really boring. Maybe with the super Training and the NEW EXP.Share, I'll be able to grind less since super training will help to get the EV points in the right place, easily. Amie let you play with you pokémon to get him happy and ready do get boosted experience points.

    If you use those 2 tools with wisdom and have the patience to enjoy the game, maybe Grinding will not be necessary.

    And there is more. I'm can't see the hour to go back to home and to keep playing the game.

    Hint: Enter in all houses and talk to everyone some people will give you itens other will just talk. And some could be interested in trading pokémon. In the first gym city there is a person who is willing to trade a Pokémon that would be really GOOD to use in the first gym. For the X, the pokémon is from Gen 1, I don't know if is the same from the Y.    … Expand

    15 years ago I played Pokemon Blue, a few years later I played Silver. I kept playing all iterations up until Black/White. This is the first Pokemon game I've played in many years and it's likely the best one yet. The nostalgia of seeing all the generation 1 Pokes is a great feeling and the new 3D engine is nothing short of superb.

Pokemon are now rendered into 3D models instead of the dated sprites as well as the player character, who can now be customized to your heart's content. The only downside to X and Y is that 3D only works in single battles or certain places on the map. Turning the 3D on also causes a blow to the frame-rate. Thought there are less new Pokemon (69 regulars, not including the Mega Evolutions), their designs are presented well in origin and detail. You simply can't hate the new ones, unlike the horror of the 5th gen games (I'm talking about you Trubbish, Vanillite, etc). Overall, a great gaming experience, just don't turn on the 3D. If you are a fan of Pokemon, RPG's or own a 3DS, make sure to pick up October's hottest title, Pokemon Y!… Expand

HeartGold and SoulSilver, two remakes, have had the best user interfaces to date, and both were promptly forgotten by The Pokémon Company. The new Pokémon are often inventive and interesting, though many are just down-right awful. The difficulty level spikes perceptibly after the sixth or seventh gym, leaving you to grind unnecessarily for quite some time on victory road before attempting the Elite Four. This inconsistent level-design leaves you frustrated for multiple hours. Though many will laud this game for its visual splendor and new art direction, I cannot see that as a redeeming factor. The new towns and characters are also with little point and much frustration. The new scientist is annoying, the new villain and his team are ridiculous, and your characters friends are a bunch of hand-picked cliche's. Even many of the new graphically impressive towns are forgettable, the aforementioned main city being the exception due to its annoying nature and design. For me, this game is a clear case of style over substance, leaving much to be desired from Nintendo's first attempt at a fully realized 3D Pokémon on a flag-ship hand-held. I love Pokémon, I take out the original once a year, pop it into my GBC attachment for my N64, put on Dodrio mode and beat it in one sitting. I have played and loved every game since (even Black and White, somehow), but this is a vast disappointment. The Pokémon Company had the chance to make their opus, their masterpiece, a defining game for a generation of gamers waiting for one of their most beloved series to come into the 21st century, except all we are left with is a poorly designed game that may show that Gamefreak is losing its touch.… Expand

But with that said; From the roller skates, a whole bunch of Pokémon, mega evolutions, character customization, and great graphics, if you have a 3DS; GoThis was my most anticipated game EVER.     So great! I'm in love with this game, 16 hours in two days! The 3d graphics are great, the soundtrack is great, the map is pretty big decent, and the story is solid! I haven't thought of anything else the game could have had!

    This is without a doubt the best Pokemon yet, and one of the best games ever. It's a completely new look for the franchise and it's for the better. Even people who only love Gen 1 will fall in love with Pokemon Y. Without a doubt Nintendo's best game ever. Overall, this game is a complete masterpiece.

I've played pigeon since the beginning, but it took me a very long while to make the jump to the DS platform. Recently I decided I was going to purchase a 3ds xl and give the new generation a shot.     I don't really understand the flood of 10's these two games have received. For me, all the small problems add up to at least a couple points being knocked off. My second issue (which is probably directly caused by the first) is that the 3-D effects are only available in a very small part of the game and even then it is barely noticeable. I could live with these things because the game is very pretty overall. My main concern with the game is that the developers have really missed out on what pokemon is to a lot of people. Those of us who started with red and blue are adults now. Why for the love of Pikachu is there not a simple difficulty option that simply makes enemy pokemon have slightly more health and do slightly more damage? The game is VERY easy which translates to boring for many of us. If you have not started your first game in X or Y, I will suggest to you to NOT turn on the EXP share for the entire game; it is overpowered. Also, why do we get two starter pokemon now? When I heard I would be able to choose from the classic starters I thought there would be an option to choose from 6 at the beginning of the game. This is not a real issue, to me it just hurts the flow of the beginning of the game. I have some more little things but as I said all of them individually do not ruin the game, they just all pile on and leave it with a bunch of bruises. I will play the game two or three times but it will be no where near the multiple year obsession red was to me. If you like pokemon you will probably find enjoyment in either X or Y but don't expect to be drooling at the mouth. It is clear the game formula needs some updating because being able to change my clothing and get a haircut in Paris was just a PR stunt.… Expand

    Great game, game freak took the experience to the next level while sticking to the games roots. A visually stunning game which is also just as adictive as its predecessors. The mega evolutions and fairy types are also a good addition to the game to make it much more strategic. 10/10

    On the face of it, this is the most immersive Pokemon game ever, the brilliant 3D graphics, music and attention to detail all contribute to it. But there are a lot of key issues that are overlooked by a great many people about these new Pokemon games, firstly many of the characters are completely unnecessary, are extremely forgettable and add little to the story, while in previous PokemonOn the face of it, this is the most immersive Pokemon game ever, the brilliant 3D graphics, music and attention to detail all contribute to it. But there are a lot of key issues that are overlooked by a great many people about these new Pokemon games, firstly many of the characters are completely unnecessary, are extremely forgettable and add little to the story, while in previous Pokemon games, you had a single challenging rival who you grew to hate and grudgingly respect, now you have a group of annoyingly upbeat friends who for no good reason take a shine to you and do little but pad out the story and spout exposition.

    Many of the towns are forgettable as well with very repetitive, uninspired design unlike previous games where all the towns had clear cut atmospheres and music, now they are all alike with few distinguishing features. The map is very simple and contrived in the sense that it is essentially a large circle that "railroads" you around with little to no freedom like you had in previous Pokemon games where the route was very much more nonlinear and so were far more interesting.

    The game UI is very much improved however over previous games with a very streamlined experience as opposed to a half dozen menus, there are only a couple now, but the whole social element with many faces and names appearing at the bottom of the screen is very distracting and unnecessary but it is a minor issue that I personally don't like.

    The game is fairly poorly optimized for the console as well, in many places the frame rate will tank very noticeably breaking immersion and the 3D features are very limited and will often destroy the frame rate in battles, if it hadn't already dropped enough. This surprised me because it's the first Pokemon game to suffer from such an issue while despite all the effects in the DS Pokemon games they always kept a consistent frame rate.

    This Game is also noticeably easier than any previous Pokemon game, It was only several hours into the game that I suffered even my first feint and I have yet to suffer a loss, your "rival" if she can be called that doesn't pick the type that's super effective against yours but quite the opposite, the "rival" now picks the Pokemon that you're super effective against, breaking precedent in the series. It's far easier to level up than in previous Pokemon games not only because of the addition of a very Overpowered Exp Share at the start of the game (it now gives Exp to the entire party) but also because the game doesn't scale nearly as much as it's predecessors, by the time most of my party were level 30 or so I was still facing level 20 enemies and until the 3rd gym I one-shotted virutally all the gym leaders and trainers.

    This game has a bare-bones story, if not weaker than previous Pokemon games with the extremely nonthreatening named "Team Flare" not "Team Fire" or "Team Blaze" but "Team Flare", why not "Team Ember" or "Team Singe", the story is weaker in the sense that the Enemies are so much more nonthreatening that previous games, hell Team Magma and Team Aqua wanted to dry and flood the world respectively, but Team Flare do little to rise to that level of destruction. The story also follows the contrived and silly plot of "Mega evolution" because they realised how shallow the plot was and decided to instead of make it just a feature, a plot device which is boring to say the least and I found myself skipping most of the text.

    In conclusion this game is revolutionary for Pokemon, it's adds an amazing amount and the battles are reminiscent of the those in Pokemon Stadium in that for the first time it's full 3D which is something I've wanted since Pokemon first began. However DO NOT be won over by pretty environments and new features, because underneath it's pretty exterior is a bad (even for pokemon) plot, terrible characters, jagged frame rates, lack of challenge, extremely linear gameplay and a fairly "eh" overall experience. If this game were released in the same art style (i.e in 2D) as previous Pokemon games it would have been Critically panned and that you must keep in mind.    … Expand
