This is my favourite Pokémon game. This is the game that revived the series as it added many new features.
This is the game that was universally adored at release to only be hated one day out of the blue. When asking why “Pokémon fans” suddenly hated this game they say it’s too easy and empty.

Easy, yes. Pokémon games aren’t hard. Empty, no. It’s the same as every other Pokémon game. Gyms, Defeat bad team, Defeat E4, have mini side quest (looker), catch all Pokémon. So if the other Pokémon games aren’t empty, this one isn’t either. This is the game I had the most fun with. 10/10

But the thing i love the most about this game is the OST. All the themes are memorable and as a VG music lover, i can't do nothing else than listening to the whole album again and again. The musics are cleverly composed and convey such emotions that i can't stop crying while listening it. For me, it's a Must-Play in the Pokemon series which worth way more than the actual Sword and Shield games that feel rushed beside this true video game monument. I can't do anything than encourage you, even 7 years after, to play this game again. (Oh, yea, i almost forgot the Mega evolution which was a revolution in the pokemon series (where is my Mega Charizard in SwSh ;-c ) and the really fun mini games you could play with your pokemons) Expand

The cons; gets tedious, repetitive and grindy towards the end to the point i stopped caring about catching pokemon and used max repel the rest of the game. Maybe a bit too long and the novelty runs out of steam.

Pokemon Y is quite the innovative piece of art. The overarching theme of the game, being a lush Paris lifestyle with lots of gardens and villages, follows you throughout the entire game, while still keeping slight contrast. Game Freak had a lot on their plate trying to nudge Pokemon towards the world of 3D, and they did a great job of keeping it tame.

Changing up the art style and dimensions of an already successful franchise is tough business, but Game Freak knew what kind of work they had cut out for them. Music carried the heart and soul of Pokemon through the entire game, reminding you that when you enter a new city, or your Pokemon is sent out to battle, that this is still the Pokemon adventure you set off on long ago. The Mega Evolution idea was very interesting, and added a cool new power to play around with about half way through the game. It immediately made sense as part of the Pokemon world, even if you don't quite understand it at first.

The story of the game follows suit with the rest of Pokemon games. It's not awfully original, but the developers clearly tried to draw a line in the story to make it stand out from the rest. In all honesty, it didn't feel like a whole new world, just a new region to explore and conquer, which I loved, though I'm not sure how new Pokemon players feel about the lack of hand holding.

Pokemon designs are fresh, the region and story stand out from the crowd, and there are several new features to get accustomed with and enjoy. There isn't much wrong with this game at all other that it's seemingly careful approach to not diverge from the typical ideas of the Pokemon series. Even then though, they pulled it off well and made sure it didn't fall into forgetfulness. Being not an awfully hard game, it's worth the pickup for anybody with a 3DS looking for a new adventure to dive into.

A wonderful blend of excitement and nostalgia, Pokémon X and Y evolves the core series with its impressive polygonal 3D environments and magical camera angle mastery, adding a few technical adjustments along with a brand new Pokémon type to the original formula that we all know and love. The overworld is very well crafted; I enjoy just getting on my bike and strolling through Kalos. But the game has some issues. The story isn't well executed, and the characters are flat and one-dimensional. While I see what they were trying to go for, most of the real interesting story elements are shoved in the back of the game. I wont go into details because of spoilers, but if you want to see the story the way it was intended, watch Pokémon XYZ. The Game Pkm Y: SUper Training: IS awesome. If u like to have strong monsters with you.

Sadly, your strenght will be test only online, because the story mode of this game is way too easy (and I Hated ((off) thinking of buying the Pkm Alpha Shappire that I've heard it is a challenging exxperience)).

I think there is a big variety of monsters rather than others games: while some have what, 150? 200?, Pokémon Y has FOUR HUNDRED or so.

I dont give the minimal **** the the story because is realy weak.

The Poke'mon series hasn't evolved dramatically over the years but it has added new mechanics over time that all come into play in Poke'mon X/Y. Prior games introduced things like dual types, natures, IV's and EV's, breeding, team battles, etc. It even allows you to fully customize a male or female character for the first time. Poke'mon X and Y introduces Mega Evolution that can change your poke'mon's type among other things mid-battle which adds another layer of complexity.

Pokemon X/Y also has a robust online with additions like Wonder Trading. The slot machine like nature of wonder trade is a gamble but it can certainly pay off if people offer more than just another diglet, vulpix, or other common poke'mon.

The story which is simple but serviceable will last you about 40 hours give or take. But I was surprised to find that playing a half hour here, a hour there, all total I had put over 600 hours into Poke'mon X. Collecting, trading, evolving and battling are as addictive as ever. The meta game in Poke'mon offers plenty of value alone. Building a team and raising their stats through super training or even just trying to collect all 700+ poke'mon. Poke'mon X and its counterpart Y are perhaps the best main entries in the series to date.

I got to say, I love this game. The new Pokemon are actually great, the new 3D design is awesome, and I found the atmosphere to be improved over Black and White. Mega Evolutions are a game changer, and are a good way to give fans evolutions to Pokemon who truly need them, without breaking some mechanics.

Overall I would give this an 8.6/10, but I can't give decimal scores on here so I rounded up.

I hadn't played pokemon for years before playing this. I didn't get in to much of the online vs battles but I really enjoyed playing through the story and highly recommend this for existing fans or new players. Pacing felt really good in this release which was one thing that sometimes felt slow or sluggish in earlier pokemon games I had played.

All these buildings look superb, and every new town gives you a new feeling of adventure and joy when playing. The music is also wonderful, expressing a specific emotion that makes sense with the situation. Battles with trainers are as fun and tedious as ever, but the feeling of battling old pokemon(s) that you remember from earlier on in 3D (3 dimensional space) is just absolutely spectacular, and your nostalgia (assuming you've played previous games) will flood the dams of your soul. The scripting and text is funny and well written, and the story progresses at a decent rate. The battles are much faster, more visually appealing, and more intense. The music when you face Gym Leaders and the Elite 4 (+champion) are incredibly electronic and intense, and really puts the serious tone when you begin to fight them. Team Flare, the antagonist team of the series, comes in these nice stylish suits and are ready to change the world for the better(or are they?). Character customization is absolutely phenomenal, though you don't start with much in the beginning. Many things like the Battle Chateau and Restaurant battles are great ways to mess around. the Day Care is back, and it's also become way easier to train your pokemon to specific EV's, with the new minigame set (super training). Pokemon-Amie is a splendid little application that helps you get closer to your pokemon by giving them food, and playing minigames with them - which, to be honest, was actually more fun than I expected. The amount of good things in this game is absolutely splendid, so let's take a look at the other side.

The Bad: There aren't very many seriously bad things about the game, but there certainly are a few. One of the main fallbacks to this game is that it lags big-time when you push the 3D slider up during a battle (one of the few times you can access 3D). Although I don't like using 3D for my battles that often, it'd still be nice to use it during times when you face a stronger or more significant opponent without the lag. Another problem that I've noticed is that this game is somewhat easy. Without the addition of difficulty choices before starting the game (which I would've recommended), you start with a relatively easy conquest to become the champion of the Kalos Region. I was around 5-10 levels above the enemies I were facing, even up to the champion! You should know how not-fun it is to battle and beat them really easily ...no challenge doesn't grant you that much fun. The last concern and issue that I had for this game is the fact that the postgame content is as plentiful and strong as the postgame content in past pokemon games. Sure you can catch a few legendaries, go to a distant town, play/trade online, but that isn't going to last you THAT long. It isn't that big of a problem, but what I'm saying that it could have been better.

Overall: I feel like this is one of the strongest first-party 3DS games to come out (as anticipated) in 2013. This, paired along with a couple of real life friends with copies of X will prove to be one epic sight to see. I have enjoyed this game for a long time, and even though the battles lag and the postgame content is not that strong, I will continue to play this game for quite a while!

Huge variety of monsters from various generations available immediately.
Online multiplayer is better than it has ever been. It's easy to trade and battle strangers on the spot. Though there are less options for rule-sets than perhaps there should be and the battle room seems to refuse allowing full 6 monster teams.
Breeding is easier and more clear than ever and training monsters to their potential is much more intuitive with mini games.
Tons of items, abilities and core gameplay options to personalize your team of favorites.
A new type that challenges the dominance of certain types.

Bad: Too few new pokemon as well as too few Mega options, many of which are lent to the already most powerful monsters in the game. In total, the lowest number of new pokemon in a game.
Metagame is not even remotely balanced to the point where community battle simulators provide a more entertaining experience.
Story is almost nonexistent. The antagonistic team is crunched into two short back to back sequences which are resolved by non-player characters off screen after you battle the villains.
Pacing is poor, aforementioned flare sequence and the oddly spaced gyms. Early gyms being very far apart and having pokemon level caps too close for comfort before they cease listening and later gyms being crammed narrowly together.
Many characters are unremarkable and easily forgettable, including the finale battles. Side characters continue to be a nuisance chopping up progression.
Post game content is a shadow compared to some previous gens.

Though at face value there may seem to be more negatives posted above, the severity of most of the negatives isn't crippling and what the game does well it does very well. I look forward to the next addition where the foundation made for XY expedites a more content packed follow-up.

Everything in this game seems like it has been custom built form the ground up, probably because it has. Custom 3D models for every Pokemon, and custom animations for certain moves for certain Pokemon. This is most likely the most detailed Pokemon game every created. The classic sprite oriented 2D world transitioned perfectly into a 3D world. The NPCs actually move around, and the cities actually feel alive compared to cities in previous games. This game follows the same standard Pokemon formula. You choose a started that is either grass, water, or fire. Then you travel around the region challenging all the Gyms, and having to deal with the evil team that is always trying to do something evil. In this game, that team is Team Flare. A group of people focused on creating a perfect, beautiful world. No matter what the cost. Although the main story in this game is shorter than the others, it is still enjoyable and loads of fun to play through. And I think that the completely redesigned game world and redesigned gamely completely makes up for the lack of some story. The new region, the Kalos region is one of my favourites, second to the Sinnoh region. It consists of three main areas, central, costal, and mountain Kalos. Each different section of the region is diverse from the others in its own way. People in the central sector seem to be more consumerist. With cafes, stores, and places to shop taking up almost every street. Costal Kalos seems tone more laid back, and smarter. This is where the research senators are, and its also a hot spot for swimming and surfing. People living in the mountain Kalos region seem to be very focused on becoming strong trainers, more so than people in the other two thirds of the region. All together, Pokemon Y is a huge step in the right direction for the franchise. Bringing with it an entirely new graphical approach to the game, soma awesome new features, and of course, a plethora of new Pokemon. As the first game in generation VI, it makes me hopeful for that else this generation, and future gens have in store for us. Expand

The story is exactly the same as any other game in the series but did we think they would change it after all this time?

Visually it is amazing. I know Pokemon games tend to see big graphical improvements from one generation to the next but I don't think anyone expected anything like this. Battles look amazing, some of the animations are top class as well.

As always we have seen new Pokemon but a lot less then what we have previously seen but with the introduction of the fairy type and new type combinations it has mixed things up.

The main problem with the game is the difficulty AKA EXP share. With it on you can beat the game easily. I was 10 levels higher than the champion in my first play through. With it off you find yourself quickly out leveled. This means to play it normally you need to constantly turn the thing off and on again.

Not a problem but something I don't like is the mega evolutions. I think its more gimmicky then anything else. An excuse to cave into pressure to make Charizard a dragon type.

The series has evolved in all aspects of the word. Adding a new type, the transition from 2D to 3D graphics and improvements to many aspects of the game-play make this a game well worth playing. Battles look great played out in full 3D with beautiful effects. The world, Kalos, which is based on the France looks wonderful and brings Pokemon to life in a way it never has done before. The music is very fitting with the surroundings, though I did hear the tracks I liked a lot less frequently that ones played constantly. This may be down to personal taste but I couldn't stand some of the town's music. The addition of the fairy type was very welcome. It added new strategies in game-play especially being immune to Dragon type Pokemon. I was quite disappointed however with the lack of new Pokemon, there being only 70 new ones. Another new aspect of game-play the 6th generation brings is Mega Evolution, which brings old Pokemon back into the limelight by giving them powerful new forms and makes the most popular creatures become even more godly. As much as I like Mega-Evolution, I wish some of the Pokemon permanently evolved that way. One of the major problems I had with Pokemon Y is the difficulty. While it is easy enough for new players to make their way through the main game and then veterans are more targeted to the competitive battling post-game, I would have much preferred a choice to chooses between harder difficultly levels. This is by far the easiest Pokemon game to date which at some points in the game made things boring. The hours of game-play also seem significantly reduced compared to the games before (BW2). Those points aside Pokemon Y is still a fantastic game that will highly appeal to long time fans and newcomers alike. Expand

They've done a great job here updating this most conservative of games series. I'm still annoyed that you can't "catch em all" but at least the main draw for me, ie the adventure, is as good as ever

No game is perfect, but this game was great! i love mega evolving my amphoros, he looks awesome with hair. i thought the exp. share was overpowered, but if you really dont like it turn it off. Easiest game in the series, only took me 2 days to beat, but there is plenty to do afterwards.

This game is a great addition to the Nintendo 3DS. While there are less Pokemon than in previous titles, and the 3D mode lowers frame rate, this is an amazing game many should plat at least once.

This game may be the pinnacle of handheld games because of its accessibility, depth, addictiveness, replayibility and fun gameplay. This game evolves the Pokémon formula in everyway and is a must have for any 3DS owner.

It is by far my favorite Pokemon game and got me truly interested in Pokémon. Even though there have been many Pokemon games I liked before this, this is by far my favorite (because I had to add more text).

This game is pure genius by Nintendo. A fantastic art style with the 3D battling working perfectly. So many new features to enhance the strategy elements of the game and a surprisingly deep plot. Not to mention the numerous references to the classic games.

Pokémon X and Y won't conform many who haven't fallen for the hype since day one, however, it's as stunning as the day the franchise first made its way into the hearts of everyone else who's been the opposite of a hater. Pros: The visuals aren't just an improvement, they're, as aforementioned, stunning and excellently executed; many, many new features such as Pokémon Amie, Super Training, character customization, and daily content help develop a deeper connection between players and their Pokémon; multiplayer value is also better than ever thanks to simplified access and Wondertrade; Pokémon from all gens make an appearance sometime or another; meeting Pikachu, Evee, the original starters, and Snorlax early in the game help create a nostalgic sense of familiarity that veterans and even newcomers alike will admire. Cons: The 3-D functionality isn't exemplified very often and when it is, frames-per-second run very, very slow very, very frequently; newer features such as Pokémon Amie and character customization, although adored, are limited; the storyline, stage designs, NPCs are flawed and/or forgettable; some newer features such as Mega Evolutions and "tipping" are virtually useless; too easy and a bit over-rewarding in terms of leveling up and making money. Welp, after receiving Pokemon Y as a Christmas gift, I finally beat the game on January 1, 2014 (1 down, 99 to go). Because of this, I am now coming forward with this review. Let me start off with this: Just....amazing. Pokemon Y is without a doubt the current epitome of the Pokemon franchise (don't worry Emerald, you're still #1).

The game impressed more than I thought it would; I suppose you say it blew my expectations out of the water. The cutscenes were very well done actually in Pokemon Y (an improvement over the BW2 ones). Especially with the 3D visuals; those certainly appeared as nothing short of spectacular.
Pokemon Y (along with X) came out with a total of 69 brand new pokemon (in addition to 3 possible rumored ones), which brought the overall total number of pokemon to 718. These included some favorites (ex. Greninja, Goomy, and Hawlucha), and others...not so much (ex. Klefki....). Regardless, the new installments seemed to have had a good variety of pokemon to choose from, given that many pokemon from previous generations were also available to catch (for example: my team consists of Chesnaught, Pidgeot, Blaziken, Blastoise, Hawlucha, and Lucario; don't judge me, I make the "fighting-type" overload work).
Another thing, Mega Evolutions are extremely powerful. Ain't no stopping you if you got the mega evos (if you what I mean). Seriously, the only 2 NPCs that managed to beat me AFTER I had control of "Mega Evolution" (I mainly cycled between Lucario, Blaziken, and Blastoise) were Siebold and Diantha (both of the Pokemon League).
Anyways, the story (I won't spoil, don't worry) was alright too. I will admit that the story wasn't as great as the one of the Black/White versions, I could relate to Y's story pretty well (especially when I seemed to be a complete jacka** to the NPCs in the game). Also, I don't think that the Team Flare boss was "one-dimensional" by any means.
I also liked that there was a plethora of Internet references thrown in there, including:

    IT'S OVER 9000!
    My Body is Ready
    The Power Rangers
    Youngster Joey
"Meow, Meow, I can haz cheezburger, Meow?"
    -and more.
    The Verdict

Pokemon Y is a wonderful addition to the franchise, and should not be overlooked. I'd definitely recommend the game to any RPG fan, Pokemon fan, or any owner of a Nintendo 3DS.

Oh my god, this is truly the best Pokemon game to date. Game Freak put in so much that we've been dying for in Pokemon games for years. I recommend this game to everyone. Even if the Team plot feels a bit forced, it's still a blast to play. Lots of replay value, and it's miles better than Pokemon B/W and even the fantastic Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. 10 out of 10.

This game is awesome. This game allows you to customize your character, pet your Pokemon, train it outside of battle, and even captured Pokemon give EXP, making this game slightly easier and more enjoyable even for people who are new to Pokemon.

I've never gotten so into a Pokemon game in my life! The addition of mega evolution was a good leap for a new generation, but disappointing to those of us who remember Digimon, who think it resembles digivolving a bit too much. The scale of the world makes exploring everything exciting and leaves tons of areas and puzzles for you to explore. Over all the best new Pokemon game yet.

I gave Pokemon X&Y 10 eventhough I should have rated it 8. 10 because the game transitioned very well and was able to create a visually beautiful Pokemon game.
