Miitopia is a funny RPG with interesting social elements, but it's too much simple and repetitive in its action.

Despite the enormous potential of the ideas behind its job and relationship systems, Miitopia falls short in almost every department except quirkiness. At least the screenshots will be a good laugh.

Behind its Street Pass Game skin, Miitopia is a fresh, extravagant and curious RPG that is not safe from tedious and repetitive parts but it has nice and unexpected surprises too.

Player’s impact is limited in Miitopia, as you rather watch the gameplay than participate in it. Despite that the game is never dull, just like similar Tomodachi Life a couple of years ago. The difference is that Tomodachi Life was genuinely funny in an absurd way, whereas Miitopia often made me smile but never caused a burst of laughter. [11/2017, p.52]

There are far better RPG’s available on the 3DS and there are far better “casual” games on the 3DS. But, those quirky Mii’s might still have the power to draw some of you into this grand adventure.

Miitopia is a quirky and entertaining RPG-lite in very short bursts, but unfortunately the game doesn’t have all that much to offer outside of a few goofs. The lack of substantial player involvement leaves it feeling too automated and the experience grows stale, fast.

It may not be for everyone, but for the more creative of players, Miitopia is a dream. It's genuinely funny, utterly engrossing, and worth the asking price just to see yourself striding valiantly through a forest with Professor Layton, Judge Dredd, and Lady Gaga in tow.

With the easy 30-hour campaign behind me, I’m having a great deal of fun with the post-game content. There are new maps to unlock, new classes to discover, and daily quests I can conquer.

Overall, I really did enjoy Miitopia more than I thought I would. It has some good entertaining value to it, but it’s definitely, at least in my opinion, geared towards a younger crowd. Is that a bad thing? Nope, especially if your’e picking up a Nintendo 2DS XL for a first-time gamer. It might be a good way to start their budding video game careers.

The narrative is on the light-side, but that makes it perfect for short bursts at a time. By the time I came to the end of Miitopia, I found it slightly emotional to say goodbye to my companions of more than a decade, but it was truly worth the ride.

Miitopia is a lesser production aimed at less discouraged players and unsuitable to the video gaming medium.

Miitopia puts the player at the centre of a plot with plenty of possibilities to shape and mold according to each one's will and this is certainly one of the game's biggest assets. The characters' mechanics are also very well executed and will keep the player's interest sharp, even if it could do better at keeping the player's role more active throughout the game.

There’s a lot to love about Miitopia, even though I was fatigued during the last several hours. I enjoy games like The Sims, where you can create characters and watch their personalities interact in unexpected ways. That element is abundant here, along with the mechanics of a respectably deep RPG – regardless of whether you enlist Pringles Guy.

Miitopia is certainly unique in its execution, but the core RPG framework for the title is far from innovative. In that regard, the it’s one of the more accessible turn-based role-playing games currently available on the Nintendo 3DS, and this is made even better by the often-bizarre blank canvas that users have at their disposal.

In an industry where it seems like just about everything has been tried before, Miitopia's willingness to try something new is commendable, albeit uninteresting in execution. It's a simple game with a couple great ideas that are often let down by a story that is too timid to step outside its comfort zone.

Miitopia may seem like a simple, artificial RPG simulation with Mii, but the humorous narrative tone underlined by such absurdly customizable protagonists suggest to take some distance from the deceptive classicism of this quest, that reveals an ironic look at the genre. The focus on the relationships between these avatars, their freedom in combat along with the randomness of the gameplay elements add life to the whole experience, creating a special position for the player, neither actor nor spectator, yet deeply involved. Whether it's considered as an introduction to RPGs or a satire, Miitopia doesn't lack character, and wonderfully embodies the role.

Miitopia looks like a rip-off of the Streetpass games, but it offers so much more than that. It is so much fun picking out Mii's to take with you on this crazy adventure, you'd almost forget that the actual fights are not really worth your time.

Ultimately, lack of player input and randomness makes Miitopia feel like a slow slog you mostly watch rather than play.

Outside of the charm of watching your party interact with each other in battles, there's nothing really special about Miitopia. Not even the music or look of it. It actually makes me want to go back to Tomodachi Life, as that game seemed to know more about its identity than Miitopia. Both do make me laugh, but I like a game that's designed to be a simulation instead of Miitopia's RPG elements that feel a touch too light to make playing it feel that appealing.

When I first looked at Miitopia I honestly thought it was going to be an incredibly simple RPG meant for a younger audience. While the game is simple and somewhat intended for younger players, it still has a look and feel that almost anyone can enjoy regardless of age or experience level. While sometimes too easy and simple, Miitopia is still a lot of fun and worth checking out.

Miitopia is an irreverent, hilarious casual RPG which is nearly impossible to put down. With the ability to create your own characters, import from Tomodachi Life, or pull premade characters from Mii Central, your game is certain to be full of a diverse group of characters from all across popular culture. This full length game has a charming aesthetic, an expanding story and a huge map to explore. Endlessly silly, strangely addictive, and easy to play thanks to the auto-battle feature, Miitopia is a delightfully ridiculous game which is perfect for the casual gamer in search of a reason to smile.

Miis aren’t for everyone, but Miitopia is easily the nicest and most accessible RPG ever made, and for that it deserves considerable praise.

Miitopia has been created to make the most of Tomodachi Life's world, although distances itself from the second to have its own personality thanks to resulting mix of Mii, social relations and RPG elements. It's a cool title that will revitalize your Nintendo 3DS this summer.

It’s almost like a proof-of-concept for Mii characters that’s arrived a little late (after all, it’s been over a decade since their introduction). I wouldn’t really call it a game, because the gameplay isn’t the main focus. Miitopia is about having a pop star RoboCop fighting a dark lord Pikachu; the absurdity of the randomness that comes with filling a video game world with whomever you darn well please, and there’s something to be enjoyed from that.

Miitopia brings the spunk of Mii's back and that offers a fun look into their lives. It is too bad the Mii's totally take away the spotlight, leaving you with too little to do.

The parody and the hilarious sense of humour are the keys to Miitopia, a "RPG - sim life" without deep mechanics and a bit repetitive.

Miitopia is a special game, marrying the quirky style and interactions of Tomodachi Life with fun, addictive RPG-style gameplay and progression. It’s a fitting celebration of the Mii concept, perfect for short bursts of play, and an absolute riot with the right group of Miis — if you’ve ever wanted to take your friends on a grand adventure, complete with silly cosplay and relationship drama, this is a perfect way to do it. Its streamlined take on the genre won’t be for everyone, but for players willing to relinquish some control and trust in their Miis, Miitopia is a wonderful ride.
  35. 60
Miitopia is a mixed bag. Mii interactions off and on the battlefield are fun, but the pacing and linear scope of the game hampers an otherwise fun experience. The game doesn’t last too long for JRPG standards (around 30-35 hours) but this feels like a fun 15 hour game stretched out with long periods of boring grind. You eventually do get everyone back, making the last part of the game a better experience towards the end. But while Miitopia makes up for a lot of things with its charming appeal, its faults are still pretty evident.

The story is key here, and it’s hard not to smile every single time there’s an interaction between Miis. Nintendo’s charm is all over Miitopia. The music is goofy, and the title screen with the singing is simply fantastic. The presentation and the ability to utilise any Mii imaginable is downright genius. I’m not sure if this is the perfect RPG for a very young gamer, or if it was designed for the gamers who enjoyed quirky, passive titles like Animal Crossing or Tomodachi Life. Whoever it was made for, it wasn’t made for those looking for a hardcore RPG.

This RPG won’t revolutionize the genre in any sense, but as a breezy riff on a familiar formula, Miitopia is a pure delight.

This is your starter's RPG, a taste for anyone who is unfamiliar with the genre. For those that are familiar, this is a very standard RPG that is neither good nor bad.

While it does have its flaws of being repetitive, I found myself constantly picking it up every night before bed and just powering through sections at a time because it was just a blast to play. Miitopia isn't going to turn heads, nor grab the hardcore RPGamer crowd, but it's a fun little romp for those who want a much more compact and simple RPG experience.

Miitopia is a simple yet appealing JRPG, especially for those who fell in love with the craziness of Tomodachi Life. Just don't expect a full scale, ambitious JRPG because you won't find it here.

Miitopia has nice graphics and a pretty decent soundtrack (sometimes disturbed by the annoying gibberish of the Miis). All in all, it's a fun experience, surely not a challenging one. A good game for a younger audience.

I wasn’t expecting to like Miitopia as much as I did, but it certainly had me hooked until the end. It’s deceptively long despite its rather basic premise and while the first two thirds are somewhat restrictive, the final third is when the game really comes into its own and shows off its true potential with compelling mechanics that are surprisingly deep. Miitopia is an odd duck for sure, but one that is very hard to put down once the hooks are in.

What Miitopia lacks in actual game it makes up for in how weird and wonderful it is. If you’re easily charmed by Nintendo, this will eat you up and spit you out.

Miitopia, by its end, is too redundant, too bland, and saves its best parts for far too late in the game—in the post-game, assuming its players have stuck around that long to begin with.

Sometimes it feels like everything is very automatic, but the experience overall is quite interesting, particularly when it comes to the relationship between characters. It's a very accessible RPG with a Mii twist.

Miitopia is the only Nintendo game that actually uses the Mii concept to its full potential. Even though the core gameplay doesn't stray far from a basic formula, I never thought that user-generated Miis could result in such an addictive barrel of fun.

I really, *really* enjoyed Miitopia, when I fully expected not to. It’s so self-aware, leading to some fantastic moments in the game. But most of all, it’s an RPG adventure that’s basically tailor made for you. I had a blast exploring Miitopia with my friends, seeing interactions that would never happen in real life, and saving the world from the evil Vook. Even if you think you might not like it, I highly encourage playing the demo. If you enjoyed that, the full game is so much better.

I like Miitopia, but I can’t really recommend it to anyone. Maybe people who still regularly play Miitomo (do people still do that?) but other than that… Just, don’t bother. It’s a game that plays itself, and you’re supposed to derive your entertainment from simply watching things happen. It’s a struggle to suggest this even to younger gamers - I can see what Nintendo wanted to do here, but Miitopia is honestly a flop.

Miitopia is a fun game for both young and old. It features humor, a lot of RPG elements and a cool Friendship Manager. But not all is as good as it seems. Traveling gets old quickly as it is automated and you can only control your own Mii.

How much you’ll get out of Miitopia depends on how much you want to buy into the concept of casting as many Mii characters as possible in the game’s roles. As an RPG it’s a little basic, but the interactions between your party members and other characters in the game are what really make it.
  2. Jul 27, 2017
I guess the real lesson here is that you can have some fun by yourself in Miitopia, even with the loneliest system in existence. The New 2DS XL is fantastic, by the way. I'll have to actually go and get some street passes before I dip back into the game.

The game even lets you try tons of different kits by wiping your team. I figured it would be a game like that of tomodachi life, and it is. But it's also so much more! The Story is quite simple and cliche but where it shines is the writing. I have had so much fun messing around with the world I have built made of my friends and characters I like! The character's witty dialogue always leaves a smile on my face even when i'm having a bad day. The diversity and branching away from stereotypical RPG roles makes this game unique, in fact I think unique is the best way to describe this game. The game tries to be something new without being too new, its still a standard role-playing game, but with a few twists. Check this Game out if you can! Full Review »
