Feb 21, 2012The game is extremely expansive, and features just as much value as (if not a little bit more than) the original.
-
Nintendo GamerFeb 26, 2012This is a game that anyone who's serious about games should play. A mammoth adventure crafted with unparalleled attention to detail. A fantastic experience. [Feb 2012, p.84]
-
Games Master UKMar 13, 2012Makes top use of 3D effects. [Apr 2012, p.73]
-
Mar 7, 2012This is an expertly crafted and fun adventure that makes a great portable companion.
-
Feb 28, 2012May not be the definitive version of Snake's Cold War escapades but that doesn't stop it from being a clever, well thought-out and simply great game - frame rate hiccups aside, the impressive and intelligent use of stereoscopic 3D makes the game an absolute joy to look at as well.
-
Nintendo PowerFeb 18, 2012A phenomenal game. Almost nothing was sacrificed in bringing the title to the Nintendo 3DS; from the opening scene to the powerful ending, every character model and every bit of excellent voice acting is intact, and the production values are sky-high. [March 2012, p.80]
-
Mar 5, 2012The remake of the well-known blockbuster game Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2) takes advantage on the touch screen for quick and easy equipping of items and weapons and offers enhanced graphics due to the auto-stereoscopic 3D viewing capability of the Nintendo 3DS. Snake Eater 3D also supports the new Circle Pad Pro and utilizes the Gyro Sensor for an improved gameplay experience. The great storyline of the single-player mode, which tells the very first chapter of the whole Metal Gear Solid series, is a fair compensation for the lack of a multiplayer mode.
-
Mar 13, 2012Although MGS Snake Eater is included in the recent HD compilation for HD console, this 3D version for the 3DS is a great game, a remake of one of the best entries in the series. An attractive game, although not perfect, which is controlled better with the Circle Pad Pro.
-
Feb 29, 2012It's understandable why Konami re-released this game on the 3DS because everything from the story, gameplay and enjoyment still holds up today.
-
Feb 24, 2012A great game - one worthy of your attention, particularly if you've never played it.
-
Mar 5, 2012But without the Circle Pad Pro, it's a bit of a bumpier ride - albeit a more portable one. The four face buttons now control the camera, which is vastly inferior, and makes a lot of difference. Seriously, Nintendo can't come out with revised 3DS hardware soon enough.
-
May 2, 2012Snake Eater is an experience that quickly differentiated from others and we found the best of Kojima and this 3D version it's a much better option for fans of the series.
-
Apr 3, 2012A classic game, on a new console, with new technology. The 3D-effect doesn't add much, but when games are as good as this, that doesn't really matter.
-
Apr 3, 2012This might not be the best version of Metal Gear Solid 3 considering the collection that recently was released for the HD consoles, but it still offers mighty good action with cool 3D effects and a great story.
-
Apr 2, 2012Though the 3DS version of Snake Eater is still a really good game, there just isn't enough different about it to make it stand out from the other versions currently available.
-
Mar 30, 2012MGS Snake Eater 3D is a good conversion, with better graphics over the original PS2 version but with some annoying framerate issues; the controls without Circle Pad Pro are a game-breaker, then the bulky peripheral should be considered as a necessary purchase.
-
Mar 26, 2012Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a good porting of an awesome game. The new controls for the in-game menus are a nice addition to the original experience. Some frame rate issues and the main structure of the game, so hard to play on an handheld console, are the worst problems of a very good project.
-
Mar 26, 2012It's not perfect, though. The camera controls are terrible; navigating the mission is a frequently annoying experience. The lack of other additional features and gameplay modes doesn't help, either. Despite its shortcomings, Snake Eater 3D is well worth playing.
-
Mar 24, 2012Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is the best cinematic experience to be witnessed on the Nintendo 3DS, full stop. However, the very fact that it is such a deep and involving game makes it not so suitable for handhelds.
-
Mar 15, 2012Quotation forthcoming.
-
Mar 10, 2012If you are a Metal Gear fan and own a 3DS don't miss the opportunity to play with this great porting. Only an advice, play it with a circle pad pro.
-
Mar 8, 2012Technical niggles aside, a fascinating and unique jungle adventure. Superb.
-
Mar 7, 2012This is a great introduction to the series and a great game period. If you have a Circle Pad Pro, I can't recommend it higher.
-
Mar 1, 2012If you've never fought with The End, eaten a rotting crab or climbed the tallest ladder in gaming, and if the 3DS is the only console you own, you really should acquire this game as soon as you can. When everyone said that you'd love it, they really weren't lying.
-
Feb 22, 2012Snake Eater 3D faithfully recreates the original and introduces many exclusive improvements, making this the best version of the game available.
-
Feb 22, 2012Packed with detail, both in terms of its environments and mechanics, this is a game that pays back investment in spades. [March 2012, p.122]
-
Mar 8, 2012Even with its technical glitches Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D is still a good game – especially if you don't know the original.
-
Apr 6, 2012Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is not the game's best version: it retains some flaws from the original game and adds new conversion-issues. Still, it's a good example of the series' classic gameplay.
-
Mar 27, 2012The game succeeds because of the story rather than despite it– and the controls aren't terrible enough to stop you from wanting to play more. And as far as 3D goes– well, they're not entirely necessary, but they're a nice touch, too, especially when you're judging the distance between you and an enemy.
-
Mar 26, 2012Your interest in this game will be entirely dependent on whether you already played the original, or if you're rearin' to play it again. Metal Gear Solid 3D is a great showcase of what the 3DS can do and what kind of experience it can offer, I just wish that showcase didn't retread old ground.
-
Mar 19, 2012A game with 9.5/10 ideas delivered in a 6/10 package.
-
Mar 8, 2012The only other problem I had with the game was the fact that Metal Gear doesn't translate well into a portable game. When you spend 5-7 minutes in a cut scene just to do 2 minutes of game play, the portability is just not there.
-
Mar 6, 2012Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a very good game.
-
Feb 21, 2012I'm not saying that Snake Eater is an inferior game; it's my favorite in the series. However, this version is only worthwhile for people who have no other choice. Even then, with the $40 you'd spend on Snake Eater 3D, you could probably buy an old PS2 and the original game, or the HD Collection on 360 and PS3. If you want the real Snake Eater experience, those are far better options.
-
Mar 30, 2012Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a step in the right direction when it comes to reaching out to the "hardcore" audience, but there are too many strikes against the title to make it one I'd recommend. Unless you like crazy.
-
Mar 21, 2012All in all, the port is well executed and especially Snake never looked better. But that is hardly a good enough reason for veterans of MGS 3: Subsistence to return to the jungle.
-
Mar 21, 2012Snake Eater still is a great game, but this 3D-remake is the worst version available. Even though it has some decent 3D-effects, it simply cannot beat the MGS HD-collection in term of content.
-
Mar 20, 2012A real classic that shouldn't be missed if you can't play Metal Gear Solid HD Collection or the older versions with better controls. You'll need the classic controller as well to enjoy this properly as well.
-
Mar 9, 2012A disappointing version of a (mostly) great game, brought low by both technical and control problems - and the general sense that the game doesn't fit the format.
-
Mar 7, 2012A lacklustre port of a fantastic game. The sad thing is that the improvements to manoeuvrability and updated visuals show us what the ultimate Metal Gear Solid 3 would look like - but then Snake Eater 3D fails to deliver that due to stodgy aiming, low resolutions and a choppy frame-rate.
-
Feb 29, 2012Emulates one of the best games ever adeptly, and if you're a Nintendo fan that never owned any of the previous systems it appeared on, it's worth exploring. However, if you have the Subsistence version for PS2 or last November's MGS HD Collection (which costs the same as this 3DS remake), MGS3D isn't a superior replacement.
-
Mar 5, 2012Aside from the original PS2 release, this is easily the worst iteration of Snake Eater. The lack of extras, the frustrating controls, and the overall performance issues hold it back from being one of the premier third-party games for the 3DS. Don't be hypnotized by this snake's gaze--this is far from the optimal way to experience this classic.
-
Feb 27, 2012The perfection of Metal Gear Solid 3's stealth espionage gameplay is simply lost in its translation to the 3DS platform.
-
Mar 12, 2012When you strip Snake Eater 3D down to its individual mechanics, it's still a strong, if aged, video game. But this stingy re-release features a dodgy camera and an occasionally unstable engine, making for a package that doesn't do justice to the original release.
-
Mar 12, 2012Snake Eater 3D is only recommended over the Collection if, for some reason, you don't have a 360 or a PS3
-
Apr 20, 2012While it has some issues it is still completely playable but some people may be turned off by the learning curve of the controls and spotty frame rate but if you are able to looks past all of that then you can still find a fun time.
