This is a fantastic game, challenging battles, massive customization, decent story especially for a kids game, animated cut scenes, voice overs>not full voice overs but during main events. Only downside is on the new 3ds it doesn't use the nub for the camera which can get stuck once in a blue moon.

When you are fighting other LBX it doesn't feel like your space is limited at all....I love that!

Other cool things the game does: Voiceovers, Good Graphics, Surprisingly Fun Game Mechanics.

Some things that you might not like: Some fights are super super hard, customizing the LBX can be overly complex at times, weapon types are 90% melee weapons.

Overall I like the game....should I have bought it on day 1? Maybe not, but I have been enjoying it nonetheless. If you like Level-5 or miniature robot arena-style fighters, then I suggest you pick this one up!

LBX offers the avid RPG fan a fun and engaging eXperience. Do you love robots? Do you love customizing robots, and then pitting them full tilt against other robots? Then this game will offer you endless hours of play. There are a few things that make this game successful.

First the story and characters. The story is well built and while geared towards a younger audience still has elements that make it thrilling for any age to play. The characters are fleshed out well and develop in a natural way. The game developers did not get lazy and leave you to reading all the time. Instead they voiced a large portion of the game through cut scenes, bringing the characters to life. In the end you get a very polished and well voiced game, with an excellent sound track.

Second, is the game play. A large portion of the game is based around you collecting pieces of armor and weapons for your LBX. With thousands or pieces, this gives you a large amount of customization. The armor as well has different weights, resistances and types that change the way your LBX will perform in battle. You also have ability to tweak the inner pieces of your LBX, giving it more power, speed, battery life and more, to lay waste to your foes. After you customize, you can battle with your LBX! The combat system is fairly simple, yet engaging. You have a bar called a tension bar the depletes as you swing, focus (with sniper) or boost yourself. As it depletes your attacks get weaker and when it hits zero you're essentially useless. During that period you can block to defend yourself or attempt to avoid the enemies retaliation. The combat also includes powerful special attacks that you can customize before the battle. These specail abilities are based off of the weapon you are using and can be very devastating if hit by them. Fortunately the game have a dodging system that will allow you to get out of the way, but only if you react quick enough. Overall the combat is fun and is especially fun when playing against another player.

The third thing that I find as a very positive thing for this game is the local battling system. You can have up to 6 people in the local area join in a 3 v 3 battle and the fights get really intense very quickly. The reason I love the local battles is it is a more social event. You can easily host tournaments or fun, quick matches with this feature.

The downsides to the game are pretty minor to myself, but may be factors for others to take into consideration. There is a fair amount of repetition in the game which could become tiresome to some people. There is also a good amount of walking, and in some cases it seems counter productive. Online play could have been a nice addition for those not in the area of other players, but doesn't make or break the game for me.

As a big RPG fan, this game provides all the action, customization, and story that I look for in a game. Plus robots. That's always a massive bonus! I highly recommend the game and any RPG fan should be quite happy with this game.

This game is medabots but with a face lift and has game play like customrobo. Best part is there is no old men in skin tight suits chasing young kids around....Anywho, it let you change up what kinds of attacks you will use but might feel limited for what it is.

The problem is that most of the environments in this game are grind locations with some chests. There is almost no one to talk to or really any reason to leave the few hub areas after you have beaten the game once. The combat is amazingly fun but later in the game when you must increase your rank to buy weapons the A.I. is not exactly much better but the LBX you must defeat have godly levels of hp and attack power. It is possible to beat them through mastering combos and maybe combo exploits such as juggling which may not have been the intended method if there is even such a thing as an intended method.

All in all the concept is worth millions but the world is where the problem is. There just isn't much to do in it and you will be confined to card battles, ranking battles, unlocking player characters and Artemis tournament near the end of the game unlocking things all for the purpose of... standing around with nowhere to go and godly gear.

I knew people were ignoring this game, but it was made by Level 5 so I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. I was hoping I would find a hidden gem, but I ended up regretting not asking for something else.

GAME-PLAY: It's not necessarily a bad game at all, the game play is pretty average. You press "Y" to keep punching your opponent until he's on the ground and gets up again. There's more to it then that like dodging attacks and using ranged weapons, but that's mostly the whole gist of it and although it can feel very repetitive, it can also feel really satisfying.

When I was finished with the game, however, I personally didn't feel invested enough to keep playing and upgrading my LBX. Even though there's a multiplayer mode, it's limited to anyone that owns the game. Since this isn't anything popular like like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros., I don't have a single friend that owns it. To make matters worse, there's no online mode or download play option, so there really isn't much to do besides fighting CPUs

STORY: What really killed it for me was the story, it's a cheesy kid's anime with so many cliches and characters that might as well be literal cardboard cutouts. I don't mind cheesy stories if there told well, but I got disinterested really fast. I understand it was obviously made for kids, but I was expecting more from the creators of the Layton (who surprisingly enough, makes a cameo) series. You can get a lot of laughs from making fun of how ridiculous it is, but it's not worth $40-30.

I really want to talk about these characters, and since I don't care for the story at all, I'm not putting a check on the spoiler warning box. So, SPOILERS AHEAD, even though I don't think anyone else should care.

This story tries to stuff in so many characters, so many of them feel like they should've been cut out. There's an address book in the menu just to list all of the characters, I guess so you don't forget any of them from how bland they are. There's two guys that give you missions at this cafe, and you later find out that the only reason one of them exists is just so the game can go "WOW! He was evil this whole time!". There's another character that betrays you because she has this sick relative. It's barely mentioned again, and she joins the good guys again any way so it felt very unnecessary.

I should also mention the amount of groups and teams that exist either to make one character seem important or... just for the sake of existing I suppose. The Hands of Hans, those hacker guys that work for Master Otaku, Team Rocket clones, ANOTHER group of hackers, the list goes on.

And I HAVE to mention the ending. After you beat the final boss and the villain guy sacrifices himself to save you in an escape pod, your character says a speech... and it ends. You never find out what happens to the characters or any resolution like that. Not that I really cared about them, but even by **** kids anime standards, this was a huge let down. Oh wait, there WAS something. After the credits finish, you get a cutscene of the main character running to an LBX match in the park with a bunch of kids that were never mentioned in the story!

FINAL THOUGHTS: In the end, the only one to really blame is myself for expecting to much. I saw Level 5's name, and I expected it to be great. If you're a kid under the age of 10, this is actually a decent entry-level RPG since I'm sure you wouldn't mind the story that much (being made for kids like you) and it also isn't as hard as other modern RPGs. If you're older then that, I'd recommend giving it a pass. Though, if your interested in playing to make fun of the ridiculous story, try to get it for as low of a price as you can find.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. LBX is a series I really feel sorry for. I can tell the developers are really trying to make a beautiful, sci-fi adventure...and while this game is strong at a technical level, I can understand why the core gameplay mechanics never appealed to the 3DS audience in America. Probably the most irritating thing about this game, is that the problems start within the opening cutscenes...right before the actual gameplay starts! The game starts up with a flash-forward of the main hero Van Yamano and his partner Achilles attacking the villain's ship with the CIO resistance. Which doesn't make any sense because he no longer uses Achilles at this point of the story. Even his friends Amy and Kaz are using the incorrect LBX! And thanks to this cutscene, the twist where Aeron becomes one of the good guys is ruined...fantastic. After setting up my profile, another cutscene plays, explaining how LBX came to be. Then another flash-forward cutscene plays. Then comes a rock n' roll music opening. After that comes a chase scene. Why are there so many cutscenes? After a while, I forgot that I was even playing a video game. When the actual LBX fights begin, they're pretty challenging. Since your LBX AX-00 has a poor defense, without cover pads, you'll have to be extra careful during the first few levels. LBX parts have this AC level-up system where they grow stronger with battle experience, while your's characters level just allows you access to more core-unit space and more powerful special moves. You can grind by fighting people on the streets, but there LBX will always match the strength of your LBX so even the practice fights are tricky! And even though the dungeons have weaker opponents, you're always fighting 3 on 3 matches with your teammates controlled by the computer. And if the AI isn't strong enough, your allies become lunch meat, and you have to win battles all by yourself. It gets trickier since there's more story than tutorials, young players will be jabbing those buttons in a paranoid craze...desperately trying to survive. You can boost your fighter like a rocket, charge and release barrage attacks, and perform multiple different techniques during battle while searching for your opponents weak points. You've got a large range of weapons as well! Spears, Swords, Guns, Rifles, Hammers, Claws, and even Missile Launchers! The special attacks are also pretty great and act as great finishing moves. There's a lot of freedom with the customization and battle mechanics to keep players entertained. That's all said and good, but what about the theme? The story is actually pretty grim for an E10 game. There's a large kill count, the villains feel like legit puppeteer terrorists, there's a level where you have stop a freaking assassination attempt, don't forget the Nils Richter torture scene. I know that games like Yo-Kai Watch and Inazuma 11 with have the occasional heavy scene, but this is something else. Even the levels are pretty intense, consisting mainly of danger-filled military bases full of security drones. The majority of the game has this "long war" theme to it...and that's fine if you want to add more realism to the story, but remember this is an E10-rated game. What kind of pre-teens would find this game to be appealing? You can have a complex story. You can have a complex battle system. You can have a mature theme. But when you try to do all of those things together, it's very difficult to find enjoyment within the big picture. Therefore, I think this game is more deserving of a Teen-rating. But even if that was fixed, the game still has some minor flaws. For one thing, the backtracking gets tiring really quickly...especially during quests. Characters will ask you to go back and forth to the store to buy them LBX parts, look for hard to miss items, most of the time I had to look up what to do for some of these tasks. Thankfully, most of the quests are just battle challenges. Some of which have you fight 3 opponents at once! That's just PEACHY. I reached my limit after completing a challenge where I have to fight an LBX with no weapons what so ever...and that took like 7 minutes to beat. During team fights, allies and enemies alike will interrupt my attack chains with special attacks, leaving me vulnerable. And since I barely see Rina in the game in general, I don't care about her backstory betrayal scene. Sigh...I will give this game credit though...the ending is excellent. Lex makes a decent twist villain and a ruthless final boss. Its a 3-stage fight where the main hero Van is trapped and has to fight an LBX monster alone. It's followed by a touching message from Lex, where he asks Van if the world can really be saved from people who think they're gods. The post game takes you back to the events before the final battle, dungeon enemies become stronger, new characters can be unlocked, and that's nice in all...but while I've gotten a lot better at this game, I'm not satisfied enough to keep playing. Despite the occasional clunkiness in battles, there is a well-developed battle system lurking beneath the surface that really just needed a bit more polish. Unfortunately, there's a lot of crippling little details between the battles, systems, and presentation that add up to a very lukewarm start for the series outside of Japan.

Praise for Level-5, as it was about time to bring Little Battlers eXperience to the European market. Its fluid and fun combat, along with the degree of robot customization will bring many hours of fun, which could only benefit from an online multiplayer mode and from a more elaborate plot.
