It’s hard to deny that Gurumin has some technical problems, but there’s a lot of charm under the surface. It’s fun to rebuild the town piece by piece and see more of the map unlock as the prince’s evil mist dissipates. Here’s hoping we can drill into some more Falcom games on the 3DS soon.

Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure does not aim to reinvent the wheel and it certainly couldn't aspire to that with its struggling camera and often imprecise jumping, which make the experience more time-consuming than it should, but this doesn't erase an accessible plot and long-lasting gameplay, once the game's dynamics set in.

This is a silly story with goofy characters that had some effort to flesh out their lives to make people care about them and the world. While it may not take much to hit bedrock with this shallow game, it does have heart, which is more than what most games have.

On a platform where there are too many great RPGs to fit on your radar, there are plenty of reasons why Gurumin shouldn't be one of them.

It reminds me of Zelda, I love RPGs. The game is quite challenging, draws you in, makes you want to find everything about everyone in it. All the delightful secrets. All the beautiful locations you can visit. Despite the lower pricing, everything about the game screams high quality. Definitely a great buy. I was pleasantly surprised. Don’t be fooled by the cute style, this is not a watered down game for small children. I am over 40 and I loved it. My husband loved it, too. Special note for parents with girls. This is a MUST. The main character is someone you want your child to have as a great friend. So are all the supporting characters. I don’t claim to have played everything on the 3DS, but I won’t be surprised if this was one of the very best 3D action games on it. Full Review »

Love this game. Probably the action-RPG on the 3DS and I've played them all, or pretty nearly.
The game moves fast, the levels are hard but reasonable, voice acting is good. Feels like a little like Zelda but with more platforming and constant use of weapons.
The characters are cute, so it would be easy not to realize this is a pretty serious game, but it totally is.

New gems are constantly being excavated and Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure is one such jewel. Originally developed by Nihon Falcom for Windows way back in 2004 and later released for the Sony PlayStation Portable, the game is a refreshing take on the Action RPG genre that the 3DS needs more of.

If you like Fantasy Life and Monster Hunter Generations, then we definitely recommend adding Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure to your 3DS Action-RPG library. Don't let its adorable appearance fool you. The game is packed with content and replay value to keep you digging for more. We give it a score of 8 out of 10 drills.
