The bosses are really fun, mostly because there wacky and creative. The second boss was the most weird because after he dies, he goes in to his ship, where he bounces around. But, there too easy. The first boss, you could just avoid then hit him in the behind and take no damage, and with the spear man, all the bosses are pretty easy.

I really like this series, and this game is worth the measly 2 dollars its asking. Get the game and it will leave you impressed, and finish it from start to the end.

Having now played on a while, I have completely adjusted my opinion. This game is well worth buying for any 3DS owner. The 3D effect is subtle but adds a lot to the beautifully understated graphics - which themselves remind me of the days of the spectrum, where each asset has a blurry single colour.

This game borrows ideas from many others - so far I have encountered a 3D into-the-screen flying section reminiscent of Star Fox, an inertia-soaked ice level, a gravity-switching section and even a section where Tetris pieces fall from the sky, and you must find a safe path upwards. Each idea is realised perfectly, with solid controls adding to the overall great impression.

I have yet to complete the game, so cannot comment on the length of the whole thing, but now the shorter levels make a lot of sense. Each time you die (there are plenty of bad guys zapping your health, and pits to fall down) you begin the stage again, with no other penalty - you have infinite lives to get it right. The shortish stages act as checkpoints, ensuring you don't have to repeat each section too many times.

Now before you think that is a bad thing let me say this, I did not really care about the plot as the main preference of the game is the way it combines the art style / graphics and music. GC2 excess at telling a story that is driven by the artsy back and foregrounds and the music has been perfectly coupled together to set the mood. You can almost tell how our hero Clive is feeling based on the art and music. The game is inexpensive to buy at 2.99 and for that you get a great little game. I say little but I meant short. The overall game did not take me that long to complete my first go through but with unlockable characters and three characters to choose from, from the start, you get a lot of content for the cost of the game. The game is not easy and personally I thought it was much harder than the first offering. This is not a bad thing either as the difficulty kept me on my toes and during those hard times in when I really relied on the music to lend a hand get me through and it never failed. Besides the level of difficulty GC2 picks up where the first left off with some fresh new ideas to make the short ride all the more fun. GC2 is a platforming game that grabs many mechanical ideas from the likes of Mega Man. I gave the game a 8, I would have scored it higher but at times the mechanics did not respond that well and it could be a little irritating when I could not pass a part due to the clumsy button response. Those frustrating moments were few and dwarfed by the fresh and fun things that the game offered. GC2 is a solid buy and an enjoyable journey that for the money you really can not pass up Expand

This game is a mediocre experience to me, The graphics are amazing and the power ups make you very excited when you get them, Boss battles are a bit hard but okay. Re-spawns are to fast for enemies and you die often but this game is still a little good

So, this sequel to the eshop hidden gem has the titular Gunman Clive, Ms. Johnson, and newcomer Chieftain Bob embark on a journey across the world to stop the bandits once and for all after their leader burns down their town in the first level. Yeah, the story isn't much, but it does have a very funny ending, and you can't really complain about story in a platformer too much unless it's painfully bad. The 3 characters all play differently, and offer a tremendous amount of replay value to an already substantial game. Gunman Clive himself is just a standard character, while Ms. Johnson is a slow version of Clive, but she has the princess peach float which can be very helpful for platforming segments. Chieftain bob however is an incredibly unique character. He has no shooting attack, and can only stab enemies. This means that you really have to think about your actions more, since e entire game is designed with shooting in mind. However, his stab Is also the strongest attack in the game, and can actually one shot a lot of enemies.
There's even a fourth character to unlock after you beat the game for the first time, but I won't spoil that here.

As for the presentation, the game still has that signature notebook sketch style, but it's gotten a major pallet upgrade with even more varied colors and locales. It keeps things very fresh and pleasing to look at, and once again looks great in 3d. The soundtrack is also very atmospheric and upbeat, and fits every new environment perfectly. For a game made by mostly one guy and a small team of translators, this game is incredibly stylized.

Finally, the gameplay. It plays a lot like a typical megaman game, what with the jumpin'n'shootin, and has some contra-esque power ups. Though, it does have fewer power ups than the original, but it's not really an issue became the ones used here are fine. The game's difficulty is very fair, with no lives and instant respawns, and varying levels for beginners and pros alike. In terms of level design and length, this game is leaps and bounds over its predecessor. There are 25 total stages, each taking 5-20 minuets. My total play time for my first run was 2 1/2 hours, and. As previously mentioned, there are 3 other characters, so you get around 10 hours with all characters, not including time trials or no damage runs or difficulty settings. For $3, this value really can't be beat. As for level design, the game is constantly evolving and innovating with every stage presenting a new element, and each element gets expanded upon at least once. There's elements of Mario Galaxy, DKC, Mega Man, Contra, and even some Star Fox segments. All of these keep the game consistently fresh and entertaining with every new stage, and it really gets you hooked.

The only criticism I have is that some platforing elements do feel a little clunky at times. These include the gravity bending, oil wells, dinosaur climbing, and ice levels. They can all feel a little inprecise at times, as I found myself dying from slipping off unfairly at times as a result.

Either way, those are small imperfections on a near perfect game, and they don't ever make it unplayable or unfun. The bottom line is that this game is one of the best platformers of the generation, right up there with shovel knight, Rayman legends, and Mario 3d world. And if you really needed to read all of this review to reassure yourself on this game, just trust me: it's worth every penny you spend on it.

I was a big fan of the first Gunman Clive, but with the new mechanics the game is almost unplayable. However, I did like the addition of the Native American character, even though it felt a little racist. The music is good and I'm glad that the unlockable character made it back in to the sequel.

The game isn't a complete failure but the controls are bad enough where I wouldn't buy it again.

The first Gunman Clive was a pleasant surprise on the 3DS e-Shop, with its peculiar aesthetics, tight platforming, and budget price point. This sequel is everything a fan of the original could hope for, keeping what worked and bringing about some excellent new features.

The most obvious of those features, of course, are the colors: now each stage features a different predominant tone.

The most obvious of those features, of course, are the colors: now each stage features a different predominant tone. The colors are used in very simple ways, just like the original title used its greyish brown hues, but the variation improves the atmosphere of each stage and makes them stand out from each other. Also importantly, the minimalistic usage of colors preserves the series's appealing visual simplicity, letting the gorgeous animations of characters and environment stand out in a very particular way.

If the original game threw us for a loop with its mixture of 1800-era cowboys with futuristic robots, here creator Bertil Höberg decided to go deeper into the time-defying setting shenanigans. This way, you'll get dinosaurs, samurai, European aristocrats, and a plethora of steampunk flavors here and there. Needless to say, this is awesome, keeping you on your toes about just what you're going to find next.

Most of the gameplay borrows from old school 2D shooters like Mega Man, featuring fluid platforming action that is very satisfying. Each of the three initially playable characters plays differently: Clive is the all-rounder, Ms. Johnson is slower but can float for short distances, and Chieftain Bob, with his limited melee attacks, acts as a veritable super-hard mode. If that's not enough variety for you, fear not: several stages are seen from a 3D third person perspective, and have your character shooting enemies while riding horses and aeroplanes.

Of course, being a budget title, Gunman Clive 2 doesn't really last for long, although the different characters and the post-ending special mode give it replay value. Perhaps the game's duration could be further boosted by a few secrets here and there, which are virtually nonexistent as is. Given all of the game's great setting ideas, it would be excellent to be given incentives for exploration; sadly, this is a missed opportunity, and while excellent at pretty much everything it sets out to do, the game ends up a bit too linear.

It's hard to harbor any serious complaints, though. This is one of those games that seem way too good for the price point ($3 at release), offering tight controls, gameplay variety and excellent setting ideas. It's an improvement over the first game in pretty much every imaginable way, and a great option to have on the go.

This is the platform or this game, the 3d really makes the presentation special. The added length is greatly appreciated yet still brief enough not to outstay its welcome. It works as a great portable game that can be completed in a few sessions or one big play session.

The gameplay is tight and addictive, yet not Mario tight. It causes the right kind of frustrations, often I would close my 3DS only to open it up immediately to finish what I started. The only area the game perhaps struggles are the boss fights. The Boss fights are maybe inferior to the original offering frustration and not enough charm. Bosses just lack originality and rely more on persistence.

The basic story of the original has been kicked up a gear as you are now chasing bandits across the globe. This adds great variety to the aesthetic and boosted by the level design matching the location theme. Gives the game the opportunity to get a bit more silly with added ninjas and more. Talking of silly there are still plenty of ducks.

The gameplay has been notably expanded. A gravity element has introduced that is well executed but at this point gravity is becoming a bit overused in platforms. More successfully Gunman Clive 2 adds great mounted combat sections where it goes all Starfox. This gives a nice change of pace to the platforming.

The same roster of characters are available from the original with the addition of a melee focussed spear wielding character. This adds an interesting new way to play through the game.

Overall Gunman Clive 2 is a must play for all fans of the original or anyone looking for a short budget title for their 3DS. It offers great visuals, gameplay and improvements across the board from the original.

This game changed a lot, but not for the better. While it still has that shine that Gunman Clive 1 has, I feel like the platforming and overall replay-ability have been forcibly numbed down.

This game changed a lot, but not for the better. While it still has that shine that Gunman Clive 1 has, I feel like the platforming and overall replay-ability have been forcibly numbed down.

For me, ultimately, this game feels like less of a "you can experiment and use the best results that you find to succeed" game, and more of an "if you don't press these specific buttons in this EXACT pattern that we want you to press them in, you will die and restart at the beginning of the level" kind of game.

The biggest example of this came from the first panda-riding level (level 10), where if you don't jump at the edge of a ramp, keep your 3-bullet shotgun through the ENTIRE level, or if you don't jump up a building - and forcibly have to climb instead - chances are you aren't going to survive the giant saw-blade chasing you. And that's not fun for anyone.

*Here's an idea: how about when you're being chased by the giant saw blade, maybe you can have the option to turn around and shoot it, so that the saw moves back slightly. This gives you the choice to either press left to aim backwards to shoot at the saw, or press right to move faster on the panda. You could experiment with both options that way.*

The colors and music are nice and uplifting, but it wears down on me when I see/hear the same stuff over and over again from dying to randomly new enemies, or oddly placed ones, which you can only walk past (because they're too high away, run away before you can hit them, or completely dodge everything you throw at them). And then there's spikes: your own fault for landing on in the first game, soul-crushingly EVERYWHERE in the second one.

In my personal opinion, this game is in it's brother's (Gunman Clive 1) shadow, and it deserves that. And while I complained that the first game didn't have too much variety in terms of platforming (as opposed to this one), maybe it's better that way. Because as much as it looks and feels amazing and fun (respectively), there's always that overbearing feeling that somewhere, somehow, there's a new enemy in the shadows, ready to kill you back to the beginning of the level, which have notably increased in length, making it much more of a chore to complete.

P.S. Nice Tertis homage in that one level (I don't know which); it was cool, and funny.
