    Both Fire Emblem Fates games feel like incomplete parts of the puzzle. With limited grinding/support options in Conquest, it's more about figuring out what the developer wanted you to do to beat the level. Birthright allows for infinite grinding, but the characters are abysmal.

    If I could buy Relevations by itself, I would have ignored the other two titles. All in all, Awakening was    Both Fire Emblem Fates games feel like incomplete parts of the puzzle.     All in all, Awakening was a much better entry in the Fire Emblem series. The story and characters are worse here, many fall flat and are even more cliche or trope-like than Awakening. Supports seem much less developed and very few characters seem to have any chemistry. The lack of romance makes S-ranked supports suddenly awkward.

    The combat has more depth here, but only marginally so. The additional of traps and other field effects doesn't make the game much more tactical.

    TLDR: Because of the 3 different versions of the game, localization issues, 500 characters with nothing to say and crappy storyline the game feels too fractured. There is no real focus.    … Expand

    I felt Conquest's story made the least sense of the trilogy, and the ending left me with a feeling of 'well... that just happened', more than the feeling of relief, denoument, or accomplishment I usually get at the end of Fire Emblem games. While I enjoyed the ways in which combat varied, adding curve balls, sometimes it went a little over the top. On the other hand, certain other levelsI felt Conquest's story made the least sense of the trilogy, and the ending left me with a feeling of 'well... that just happened', more than the feeling of relief, denoument, or accomplishment I usually get at the end of Fire Emblem games. While I enjoyed the ways in which combat varied, adding curve balls, sometimes it went a little over the top. On the other hand, certain other levels had such fantastic functions, beating them became more fun than challenging. I wasn't much of a fan of the limited resources, honestly mostly because I was able to use the DLC to easily circumvent them. It isn't a bad thing, but I would have preferred being able to Scout to having to re-do Before Awakening a thousand times to raise some units' Support levels.… Expand

    To begin with, the story is horribly written and portrayed for Fire Emblem games. The villain of the game is already revealed to you before you make your decision on whether to defend Hoshido or Nohr, which makes choosing to be on Nohr's side in this case to be meaningless. The villain can be dumbed down to "rah rah evil!" and doesn't leave as much of an impact as the previous games, usually with a king from a different nation threatening dominance onto other nations. Not to mention that a lot of deus ex machina conflicts regarding the main protagonist ruins the overall immersion of the game. I can also conclude that it's one of the worst written games in the franchise, which is sad considering how much time and effort was spent into making the script for the game. However, the game presents really well in my opinion. It has a great soundtrack and its art-style is terrific. The character designs aren't half bad either, and I didn't have an issue with how the game looks overall.

    Although it may have sounded like I was praising the gameplay before, it's very wishy-washy. The gameplay isn't bad, but Fire Emblem veterans are going to have issues adjusting to this style of game. To begin with, pairing up is still a mechanic, but is more balanced, as the enemies can pair up as well. Pairing up was broken in Fire Emblem Awakening, so it makes me glad to say this. However, the game has decided to put more emphasis on character interactions than strategic gameplay, which I think was a horrible mistake. In previous Fire Emblem games, the support system was always a minor side gameplay element meant to elevate the characters, their personalities, and the story as a whole. I don't have a problem with this, as if you do your research and match certain characters correctly with others, you can have amazingly strong child units. Though, here's the kicker: Unlike Fire Emblem Awakening, children units hold no purpose to the overall plot of Fire Emblem Fates. It serves no purpose and is just a means to pair with units and to get overly stronger units with better skills. If that's what you want to do with your Fire Emblem game, then that's fine, but I think it's an overly forced mechanic without significance.

    Regarding weapons, I have both a good and a bad thing to say about it. The good thing is that weapons are color coded, making the weapon triangle more diverse and allowing for more strategy. However, none of the weapons in this game, with the exception of staves, can break. It makes a lot of the special unbreakable insignificant in comparison and breaks a lot of the immersion in general. One thing that I hear a lot is that this is the harder version of the Fates collection, and although it is difficult, with a bit of trial and error, you can definitely make it past on normal mode without too much difficulty. The map design is also quite varied, allowing for a lot of interesting chapters.

    Overall, Fire Emblem Conquest is a good game, but it doesn't quite reach the potential of what's considered to be a good Fire Emblem game. If you want to get into the Fire Emblem series, then you should probably get into Blazing Sword or Sacred Stones, as both games are cheaper to get on the 3DS eShop, and provide a much better first time experience. If you're a Fire Emblem veteran and (somehow) haven't played Fates to this point, then know that this isn't reaching the quality of the GBA and Tellius games.    … Expand

    -Unbalanced difficulty. You're aways outnumbered by large, under leveled, poor, can't afford weapons, can't afford basic health itens, can't find money enough, die in battle with 1 single mistake, and sometimes around round 20! Damn, they could at least let you grind without having to pay for a dlc...

El juego es ridiculamente dificil en varios niveles, creo que ese es el punto mas negativo y por lo que no merece un 10. Es absurdo que no permitan entrenar a las unidades. SI te equivocas, como todo el mundo que jugo por primera vez, vas a batallar aun mas en superar los niveles yBella historia, aunque se estanca un poco a mitad de juego. Muchos personajes son buenos, otros, olvidables. El juego es ridiculamente dificil en varios niveles, creo que ese es el punto mas negativo y por lo que no merece un 10. El soundtrack es bellisimo, mejor que Ocarina of Time. Un ultimo punto negativo, y por lo que no merece un 9.5, es el sistema de clases, realmente no hay forma de darse cuenta que tan importante es elegir la clase y las caracteristicas de los personajes al usar ciertas armas, por lo que uno se encuentra "a ciegas" a la hora de decidir como equipar a las unidades.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being a long time fan of the Fire Emblem series, I chose Conquest for my first playthrough, because it doesnt take the same route as Awakening did, meaning that you can not level up your characters infinitely before takling a story mission.
    That means ressources are more scarce and the gameplay overall is just harder and more fun.
    The strategic fighting is at its best in the Fates games, they added another supporting mechanic that gives you more options to pair up units.
    I enjoyed the changes to the weapons, most of them no longer have limited uses (except for staves) while strong weapons are more rare now, making them feel more valuable.
    A new castle building aspect is strongly tied in with the online interactions of the game. It doesnt feel slapped on and I found myself using it a lot.

    So far so good, now to the topic that makes this game one of the weakest title, despite all the praise for gameplay.
    The story and characters are HORRIBLE.
    I do not know if this is entirely due to the localisation, that has been rightfuly bashed by everyone, or if it was this bad from the getgo.
    While the story is kinda okay, nothing special by any means, the characters are just incredibly dumb or so hilariously over the top stereotypical, its unbearable.
    After chapter 10 I found myself skipping EVERY dialogue, because reading what the characters had to say just made me angry.
    The main character seems to not notice ANYTHING thats going on around him, most of the other characters are entirely focused on one gimmick (such as eating, making up retarded names for moves, or ploughing a field).
    Its just so cringeworthy to read any of the support dialogue, I rather skip them entirely and just use them to minmax my characters and pop out a baby after a while. It really boils down to this due to godawful writing.
    It made me enjoy the game so much less, I cant go above 6 points on this one.    … Expand

    -The chapters adopt a predictable pattern of "go defeat X for your evil king and complain about it", which grows really tired after the 10th time.
    -Not much is explained about the world. Entire nations pop into existence when the plot demands it and vanish into obscurity right after the respective mission is done. The world doesn't feel very alive as a result.

    Overall the game is fun to play, but the story segments are so weak that I just stopped reading them around half-way through.    … Expand

    When the only purpose the story serves is to introduce the the next level, the game becomes increasingly dull and bland. By Chapter 18, I had no desire to complete the game. The story was not captivating, and only a handful of characters were likable or particularly interesting.

    Comparing this game to Awakening, Awakening had much more likable characters with distinctive memorable traits. Although the writing was rather inconsistent and poorly structured, the events themselves were rather interesting at times. In Conquest however, the entire story(or at least of the part I played) is basically some dull prince and his army following the orders of an old and evil king, who is also their father. The story never went anywhere in the 18 chapters I played, and I didn't feel inclined to find out whether this changes or not.

    In terms of gameplay, Conquest is an improvement in every way. The maps are well designed, and have their own flavor to them. Pair-up was nerfed, and combined with the new blocking system, makes the game feel alot more strategic.

    All in all, Fire Emblem Conquest was a disappointment, and I found far more enjoyment in its predecessor.    … Expand

Before i played the game , i think my castle is a good life simulation system that was newly introduced to this game in order to highlight the interaction between each of the characters , but I was wrong , it is nothing but a grinding system (online) to grind like crazy , but i don't really disagree with this grinding castle since without it, i cant even pass the early chapter (midori recruited , grind , buy seal continue grind with free dlc) this is what i did for half of the played time of the game on lunatic mode.
    THE FIRST LET DOWN
    nintendo try to make somethings distinctive between BR and CQ by removing the mapping system in conquest which make it feel like taking a one way ticket to your destiny , just lack of freedom make things less memorable. However by doing so only decrease the satisfaction and enjoyment of this tittle.
    THE SECOND LET DOWN
    some of the chapters are dump , really too less about the strategics , it demand you to grind as much as possible in this hard-to-grind tittle in order to win , my first playthrough is on lunatic mode and you think what will I say about its difficulty? It is boring , i beat almost every chapters in two runs ( i do reset to prevent any character die in classic mode) because i just grind like a boss , i just grind like a boss to make all of my useful character(general and sorcerer super important, higher level then MU) same level as my MU and make Azura max level (kinshi knight) make things so much easier.
    THIRD LET DOWN
    I forgot which chapter already , maybe chapter 19 is so dump , i can't attack during my turn is nothing , but enemy with pass and high hit rate+attack kill my strategist like a boss MAN! AND MY ARMY MOSTLY MADE UP BY PALADIN , BEASTONE , KINSHI , DARK KNIGHT!!! I reset for 3++times (average time interval 30mins) and eventually decided to use midori grind , and HEARTSEAL change every possible character to GENERAL OR HERO EVEN SWORDMASTER (odin) and it become easy like hell which i thought it were not lunatic but only hard mode (MY TACTICS : IGNITIOUS GENERAL PAIRED SIEGBERT AND SOPHIE GENERAL PAIRED PERCY and BEASTKILLER) too easy! but too boring at the same time! It just feel repetitive to win all by grinding , the only different btw this 2 games is CQ need to grind harder , and that is all , and i dont like to grind , which turn out a super boring experience
    FOURTH LET DOWN
    do you ever skip the support conversation? I do and for the first time in CQ , the MU is too young and dump , what about the others? ROYAL : twisted people CHILD : nothing to mention FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTER : find yukata (selena) naming (odin) flirting (laslow) and thats all , and some of the children just too insignificant to this tittle. (YES i am saying you shigure) Lack of highlights to the characters and their personality make them feel less affection to me which lead me to make them as a give birth tools to create stronger army without looking at their conversation.
    5TH LET DOWN
    the story...dumb MU with dumb party try to act dumber than before in order to bring peace of the world. I thought the good and bad sides and some plots have be switched. HERE IS THE EG: your birth and lived country is bad , and you lost your precious family in the war , not because of the others but your own country faults , so you side with the other country to kill your own father (YES THAT IS THE STORY OF REBELLION OF LELOUCH : CODE GEASS if you never watched this go search and watch it, save your fourty bucks , maybe 60$? it is not worthy , you wait for discount or second hand , buy and played then you know.) Why i buy? Because awakening, and this is an epic let down wakakakkaka
    actually i quiet like the time travelling concept of awakening , it just too cool and they successfully mix the concept with the story (APPLAUSE FOR AWAKENING) you are the final bost (APPLAUSED AGAIN FOR AWAKENNING) and awakening wars actually make sense , because it last for a long period while FIRE EMBLEM CONQUEST they dont mention the time well , especially the deep realm stuffs really i cant accept this concept and how their family conversation also weird and so on , just too much to complain (4166 characters now so forgive me not to tell you more about this..)

    this 6th let down is not caused by others but it predecessor , it is a huge let down i dont lie so believe me , just spoil yourself with youtube and you will find the jrpg nowadays are all nonsense , bad story , not creative while innovative

    I really hope new good JRPG released , the core of JRPG is always about the adorable/memorable characters (don't have to be too much like fire emblem) , memorable enemy ( ganodorf~) , memorable wife~ incridible concept of story ( radiant historia! white chronicle black chronicle , pandora tower fresh meats~) , epic boss fight (dragon valor came into my mind before legend of zelda ahahaha) , plot twist : radiant historia and xenoblade chronicles and pandora tower (final boss is~~~) 4988words!!    … Expand

Some even said it was fun or the gameplay was good and still gave it a 0/10, that makes no sense at all, if at least one part of it was good (the biggest part at that) then it is not a 0/10. I had all the same issues as the negative scores but I still gave it a decent rating because the game was fun despite all the drawbacks. If it hadn't been censored I would have given it at least a 7 but the choices made with the games were just as nonsensical as a 0/10 rating.

    This cannot become a new thing Nintendo does for all of it's North American releases. Someone said something along the lines of "why can't Nintendo treat us like adults?" and it's because they know how we really act. We don't rationally talk about our disappointment, we curse and throw a fit like a child so in turn they treat us like children. When we stop acting like this and can voice our displeasure like reasonable adults then maybe Nintendo will take us seriously but until that time they will continue to treat us like we're all as old as we act.     I have played several Fire Emblem. I am not a novice. But this has to be my least favorite Fire Emblem. I truly want to love the game but I cannot. I cannot say exactly why. I am not feeling it. And the difficulty is insane. I should had bought Birthright perhaps. My biggest pet peeve, that you cannot skip the 10 minutes cut scenes after dying (again). I am disappointed.

    Positive: Subpar but slightly entertaining gameplay.

    Negative: Awful story, bland one-dimensional characters and non-sensical extra features.

    I recommended playing older Fire Emblem titles before playing this abomination, preferably Fire Emblem (GBA) and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

On release it was hailed as the best in terms of gameplay for the fans of old Fire Emblem games as it gives you a good challenge without being able to grind your units, just like most of the classics. Unfortunately Conquest fails splendidly at gameplay to the point I can hardly call it a strategy game. Most Fire Emblem games until Radiant Dawn gave you a reason to play strategically and plan ahead. They either give you rewards like items or bonus chapters you have to reach before a village is burned down or a group of npcs dies or they give you a set time limit to succeed or they just throw lots of enemies at you. These things kinda force you to use your units equally and distribute them equally over the map thanks to the weapon triangle.
    Conquest doesn't have that. Out of the 22 chapters this route has, only about 6 pressure you into doing things. Chapter 8 gives you a big needed reward if you visit three or more villages before they're burned down; Chapter 10 throws dozens of units at you, so your only gameplan is to defend as the game tells you; Chapter 12 sets a time-limit of 16 turns, which quite a lot in Fire Emblem actually; Chapter 16 lowers the reward by a bit for each passing turn; Chapter 18 gives you 20 turns time to beat all the bosses; Chapter 21 has reinforcements coming from behind each turn; Chapter 25 sets a time-limit of 25 turns before the boss actually moves to kill your unit. Only those few chapters give you any reason to play efficiently at all. But even those limits are way too loose to even be noticediable. 20 turns to clear a map is nothing. Most maps in Fire Emblem can easily be cleared in less than 15. So if most maps aren't difficult strategically, then how is the game difficult at all? The answer is by having really nasty setups in the enemy formation you have to go through. Oftentimes you will have one field in the reach of 4 or more enemies who move as soon as you get close enough. So you're constantly trying to pull the next wave of enemies without your units dying. The result is more a game where you throw in your bait to lure in the next group of enemies so that you can finish them off with your other characters. Examples of these maps: 11, 13, 14, 18, 19, 21, 23 and 25. As a result, your tank unit(s) constantly gain levels as you progress, while the rest lacks behind considerably. These are probably Effie and/or Xander since they fit the role perfectly. Especially towards the end this concept of small groups of enemies you take out one after another is taken to such an extreme, that the player has no other option but to take his most defensive unit, place it on that one place and pray to god that he or she survives. Of course the devs were aware of that, so they didn't hold back with skills that counter that gameplay or designed the map in such a way, that it's very difficult to support that unit well. At the peak of this nasty game design stands chapter 26. A boss with plenty of long range debuffs in the middle, a room to each side that is hard to approach due to different skills like a teleport skill or more debuffs.
    Another thing to mention are some little gimmicks the game has such as stairways that transport a unit to the next room or the infamous wind chapter. They further deepen the issue of lure tactics to be the only viable strategy to move forward. Stairways such as those in chapter 11 divide the map into multiple small parts, that have to be done one after another. The wind map may sound interesting at first, but since the game gives you no reason to be efficient in your playstyle, you might as well be very careful and pull one enemy at a time without taking any risky attempts to dive deeper into enemy territory.
    Another interesting thing to note is the lack of mages, or rather the inbalanced set to choose from. Odin just lacks both power and speed to do this role. Nyx on the other hand has those, but won't be accurate enough to reliably hit. Leo is almost strictly better than Nyx, but has the same issues has her. Most fights are just small skirmishes to begin with, so mages are rather useless anyway.
    Yes, all in all it can easily be said that the game lacks any sort of pressure on the player to actually make him play smartly. While most older Fire Emblems had enemies hunt you down, giving you a reason to plan each turn anew, Fire Emblem Fates can be said to utterly fail at that. Probably the only map in the entirety of Conquest that actually does that is chapter 10. It's the only map that puts you as the player at a constant disadvantage, making you think about each action not not fall prey to the next wave of enemies coming to you.    … Expand

    This game is more challenging than birthright but its problem is it plays like birthright and because of that a lot of character are just useless and you will never use in conquest and the format of the game makes it not only overly difficult but its lacks any balancing for this insane difficulty spike. The story had giant plots which literally in the story said dont worry about it. TheThis game is more challenging than birthright but its problem is it plays like birthright and because of that a lot of character are just useless and you will never use in conquest and the format of the game makes it not only overly difficult but its lacks any balancing for this insane difficulty spike. The story had giant plots which literally in the story said dont worry about it. The big problem with conquest is that it has a better story than birthright but the gameplay is like a glove that doesnt fit. This game is literally the reason phoenix mode exists.

    If you’re aiming for a steeply difficult strategy game that really makes you think ahead, Conquest is the way to go. I’d still recommend playing the Birthright path first, to be honest – the difficulty curve between the two works well, and Nohr’s story works well as an extension of your experience in Hoshido.

    If you have a 3DS, Fire Emblem Fates is a must-buy; if you don’t, it’s yet another reason, on top of so many others, to get one. Just be sure you do your research, and stick to Birthright unless you’re absolutely ready for the challenge Conquest has to offer.
