Great story, characters, and gameplay. It improves everything that was wrong with Awakening and is just really fun to play. Definitely a must have for 3ds.

They censored this game. Cut out an entire minigame and changed a bunch of dialogue and cut out about 2000 other lines. They did this because they think you are children who cannot handle any content which does not entirely match up with your worldview.

    Censorship is an insult.

While the gameplay is really great, the removal of mini games, the awful voice acting and the cut dialog makes Fire Emblem Fates story an unenjoyable mess that is not worth your time.

Like most, I was fairly excited for this game to come out. I've played a few Fire Emblem games over the years, and really enjoyed Awakening. I've always enjoyed RPGs of all kinds for their sweeping stories, and now I'm actually a professional fiction writer. So I was doubly thrilled to hear that a well-known Japanese author was penning the tale.

Fast forward to my finally playing the game. I start the first chapter, and within the first few lines of dialogue, I can tell something's off. I've now had the game for weeks and have only been able to get through Chapter 9 because the characters are, generally, over-the-top anime cliches.

You've got tsunderes, yanderes, cheerful moe little sister, or shy moe little sister... You've got the respectful ninja, the dutiful butler, the stuffy older brother (or the noble older brother, depending on your path). The dialogue is maudlin and on-the-nose -- there's no subtlety. And having read months earlier an article in which they went in-depth on how far this great author had gone to script this game, I could not understand how this was the end product. Was I missing something here?

Now obviously I went online and quickly figured out what happened with the localization. I don't agree with the censorship, but that's not really what I'm upset about. I'm upset about all the other random, pointless changes to characters, in some cases completely altering their personalities. I'm upset about the overall poor quality of the dialogue. And Corrin! Oh, Corrin... You are so terribly, terribly annoying.

Now look, I won't rattle sabers about it, but I'm someone who believes video games can be art. And in this case, I feel like Nintendo of America's localization team desecrated a writer's art. The way the translation comes off, it's as if they didn't treat their task with any seriousness or respect; rather they regarded it as yet another Japanese import that should be as silly and colorful and innocuous as possible -- because that's what Americans like about Japanese culture, right?

Of course, all that said, I won't give it a 0. If you like SRPGs, at least the strategy part is still spot on. They've taken what they did right in Awakening and improved upon it. The My Castle feature is a little too open though -- I think in realizing their ambitions, they allowed for more than they should have. It can be abused very easily.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll actually be finishing the game. I've played through many an RPG with a mediocre story. But one that actively makes me cringe is another thing entirely. As far as I'm concerned, it's half a game, and that's the score it should get.

I can only hope that in the future, Nintendo of America will honor the source material.

I cannot in good conscience say anything good about this game or the other 2 routes because there is nothing good to say. Seriously?). The main character was a self-insert mary sue who in Conquest, was treated like a doormat to justify anything that happened. Most importantly, Fates failed to capture anything that made FE, FE. I am a long time FE fan and I can honestly say that this is NOT Fire Emblem. None of this is what Fire Emblem is about. It didn't even feel like an actual FE game. It felt like a grossly anime knockoff trying and failing to be it. So anyone thinking about getting this game, it's truly not even worth looking at Expand

this game doesnt deserve a score of 8 or above.

it has additional gameplay features compared to awakening but there is nothing outstanding about the game. Its even a step backwards in terms of story, characters and dialogue. The difference between level of weapons seem to have been reduced. the localization job made the game worse. english voice acting isnt very good, uninspired

I bought this game due to good reviews. I feel as if I've been duped because it lacks a soul. The story is so generic and bare, and the horrible voice acting sounds just like it's been copied from Pokemon. I may have enjoyed the game if I was 12, but no. I highly recommend against this game

I do believe that this game is a great addition to the franchise, but the game suffers from horrid censorship. I recommend getting an English patched version of the game.

Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest was the Fire Emblems that was marketed as one being like the classic Fire Emblem. You are a prince/princess that has chosen to side with Nohr, a country where your adopted father/king just tried to use you as a suicide bomb. You show up demanding answers only to learn that you are being sent to your death because they want you dead. All attempts to not kill a character is made pointless when your evil allies show up and kill them anyways. This repeats for the next 20 or so hours. The game itself ends on a to be continued and the crowning of a new king, but that's about it.

What makes the game difficult is not because of strategy, but rather because of near unlimited enemy reinforcements. The enemy will get reinforcements at regular intervals, such as every 3 turns. You have limited resources to purchase healing staffs to mitigate this. And that is the real challenge of the game. Do it right though and you will have access to near unlimited experience which then turns the game on its head by providing you with absurdly powerful characters. Dragon Vein puzzles amount to just "hold this position with a unit" though even that part of the strategy is limited because only members of the royal families can use Dragon Veins, thus limiting your party member choices in a majority of battles. They will also have to waste turns to activate them.

On top of that, the first half of Conquest is basically the second half of Birthright in reverse. You literally go over the same maps again.

Fire Emblem Fates is a great game. Unfortunately, most people in the west will never get to play it. Instead they'll get the version butchered by Jack Thompson's disciples at the NoA Treehouse.

Im giving this game a 4 because of one huge issue with the game play. This one thing makes this game among the most frustrating, games I have EVER had played in recent memory. It's the BS RNG. I don't know what the hell Nintendo did, but the RNG in this game is very different from every other fire emblem game made in the last 10 years.

Got a 98% chance to hit? Guess what you miss. Oh

Got a 98% chance to hit? Guess what you miss. Oh guess what you miss again, and again and again. The enemy has a 3% chance to crit your unit and instantly kill it? He crits. Not once not twice, but 3 or more turns in a row. The RNG in this game so **** that it defies logic. Rare RNG mishaps are COMMON IN THIS GAME!!! Because of this, you will find yourself restarting not only to terrible level up RNG on your units but also to terrible RNG in combat as well. Oh yeah , and the enemy units will frequently have completely broken weapons that were designed to be very strong but not hit very much, but oh guess what, The broken ass RNG makes these weapons and spells connect Every. Single. Time. WITHOUT FAIL!!!. Oh yea, and this is on normal difficulty.

This game will make you want to punch a small child.

Otherwise the story is good, if you can manage not to sell this game back to Gamestop before you beat it.

But worst of all: Conquest was supposed to be "challenging." And chapters 1-9 were just that: difficult, made hard enough to test you considerably, but not unreasonable. However, chapter 10 was a difficulty spike the likes of which I had never seen before. It went from "difficult" to "psychopathically sadistic." I picked "hard" difficulty, and 1-9 were just that: hard. But chapter 10 took it up to Lunatic-difficulty levels. I have played the entire Advanced Wars series, and 3 fire emblem games before this one, and I expect better than this difficulty-spike BS from Intelligent Systems. 1/10 because I feel betrayed as a player, as a customer, and as a fan of the series.

If you’re aiming for a steeply difficult strategy game that really makes you think ahead, Conquest is the way to go. I’d still recommend playing the Birthright path first, to be honest – the difficulty curve between the two works well, and Nohr’s story works well as an extension of your experience in Hoshido.

If you have a 3DS, Fire Emblem Fates is a must-buy; if you don’t, it’s yet another reason, on top of so many others, to get one. Just be sure you do your research, and stick to Birthright unless you’re absolutely ready for the challenge Conquest has to offer.
