    80's Overdrive really nails the presentation side of things with its eye-catching 2D visuals, superb 3D effect and pumping soundtrack. It also controls well and the Career Mode is challenging enough to keep you glued to your 3DS for quite some time. The Out Run-style Time Attack mode and the Level Editor extend the lifespan of this title further, but the occasionally cheap difficulty level has an annoying habit of ruining your race as well as your mood. This is a relatively minor complaint in the grand scheme of things however, and fans of old-school arcade racers will almost certainly forgive this issue in order to play a true tribute to the classics of old.

    80's Overdrive is a fun and enjoyable arcade-style racing game that will certainly resonate with long-time fans of this style. Its main flaws lie mostly on the lack of a multiplayer mode and a gameplay that sometimes may feel a bit frustrating but overall, the experience is rewarding and well worthy of the player's time.

    80’s Overdrive is a very pretty game with really good core mechanics and some really questionable and frankly unnecessary complications layered on top. The take home here is that I really liked it until I didn’t anymore. I still pop in from time to time, but this is not a game I’m particularly compelled to play long-term.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of my new favorite games for the 3DS. It is one of the few games I have played that I can't put down. Career mode is short and you will quickly get through that in a day or two. After you beat career mode you will race a mystery driver and get a car with stats that are higher (10) than the other cars (9). Once you finish career mode and get this car you can start having fun on the time attack mode. You can play the time attack mode with other cars and before finishing career mode, but you will want the best car possible for time attack mode.

    Career mode consists of racing 9 other drivers, weaving through traffic, and avoiding suicidal cops. The cops only seem to chase your car, not any of the other racers, and your car seems to be the only car that gets slowed down by crashes. Crashing off the track from other cars randomly switching lanes into you and suicidal cops break checking you can be frustrating, but that frustration makes it all the more satisfying when you narrowly miss crashing while weaving through traffic.

    Time attack is just you and traffic on the open road racing the clock. I have not seen any cops, but I have not completed time attack mode yet. You will need a fast car to make it to the checkpoint before running out of time, or you will need to narrowly miss crashing into other cars. The closer you get to other cars the more time you get, but at the risk of crashing.

    The last mode is a track editor. You have very little control over designing the tracks, it is more like a random track generator where you adjust the amount of things to be generated
    such as hills, curves, traffic, and things of that nature. This mode is great if you want to go for a joy ride and just chill out and enjoy the visuals and music.

Gra ukazała się 3.12.2017r w cyfrowej dystrybucji Nintendo eShop w cenie 39,99 zł.

    Gra oferuje trzy tryby: karierę, time attack i edytor tras. Ten pierwszy jest jednak podstawowym, to w nim odblokowujemy lepsze pojazdy, którymi później powinniśmy grać mierząc się z czasem.

    W trybie kariery zaczynamy z niewielką sumą pieniędzy, za którą możemy nabyć jakiś samochód z dolnej półki. Za resztę która zostanie możemy uczestniczyć w wyścigu. Jeśli wygramy to zarobimy trochę kasy. Jeśli nie - stracimy, gdyż za każdy wyścig trzeba zapłacić wpisowe.

    Mechanizm trybu kariery oparty został na zarabianiu i wydawaniu pieniędzy. Opłacamy wyścig, zgarniamy szmal za wygraną... ale też musimy opłacić paliwo, bo przecież samochody nie jeżdżą za darmo. Dodatkowo jeśli będziemy obijać się o przeciwników lub wypadać na pobocze, to powstające uszkodzenia pojazdu mogą wykluczyć nas z wyścigu. Trzeba więc płacić za naprawy i za ulepszenia.

    Tryb kariery poza szanowaniem pieniądza ma jeszcze sporo do zaoferowania. Podczas wyścigów czasami mamy okazję na bonusowy zarobek. Pewny ciemny charakterek w kapeluszu oferuje nam misje („zbierz paczki po drodze”, „uszkodź pojazd konkretnego przeciwnika” itp...), za których wypełnienie płaci ekstra forsę.

    Drugim poza misjami smaczkiem są pościgi policyjne. Podczas klasycznych zmagań z przeciwnikami musimy jeszcze uważać na radiowozy, które przez jakiś czas zajeżdżają drogę i próbują nas zatrzymać/zepchnąć na pobocze.

    Im dalej, tym droższe opłaty początkowe ale i wygrana lepsza. Rośnie też poziom trudności przez wydłużanie tras i zwiększenie skomplikowania (ostre zakręty, wzmożony ruch na drodze, zwężenia, pagórki, więcej policji...). To wszystko sprawia, że odczuwamy wzrastający poziom trudności.

    Po zaliczeniu wątku głównego, odblokowaniu wszystkich tras, pojazdów i ich ulepszeniu możemy jeszcze zmagać się z czasem w Time Attack. Wyścig rozpoczynamy z licznikiem na zegarze wskazującym 90 sekund, który odlicza do 0. Jeśli nie uda nam się dojechać do checkpoint'u wyścig się kończy. W tym trybie zmieniony jest mechanizm gry, nie ma boosta z trybu kariery, nie ma pościgów policyjnych, nie zarabiamy pieniędzy i uszkodzeń pojazdu. Są za to normalni użytkownicy drogi do wyprzedzania, a przejazd blisko nich dodaje sekundy do ulatującego czasu. Musimy więc ryzykować zderzenie (spowolnienie), aby zyskać cenne sekundy.

    Ostatni z trybów gry to Level Editor jednak jest to tylko wybór parametrów określających wyścig. Suwakami ustawiamy: krajobraz, długość trasy, krętość, ruch uliczny, czy ma być policja i zatwierdzamy. Gra sama generuje nam trasę na podstawie wybranych ustawień.

    Pojazdy wyglądają na super fury, jest ich kilka ale każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie. Mi przypadł do gustu Intruder Turbo, ale jest też Penetrator GT (przypomina Lamborghini), z kolei Aggressor (trochę przypomina Porshe).

    Trasy prezentują szczegółowe bogate w detale krajobrazy, które statycznie są piękne, a w ruchu jeszcze piękniejsze. Barwa i nasycenie kolorów również zasługują na uznanie – zobaczcie na screeny. Ścigać będziemy się na drogach dojeżdżających do miasta nocą, przy plaży, w lesie, na łąkach, pustyni i w starożytnym mieście. Ta gra po prostu wizualnie musi się podobać. Od strony technicznej krajobrazy są świetnie wykonane, szczególnie podoba mi się zmiana tła podczas zakrętów, kiedy to góry na trzecim planie, przysłaniają inne wzniesienia lub budowle na czwartym i kolejnym. Wszystko to podczas krętych wyścigów pięknie pracuje (przemieszcza się / przesuwa / faluje).

    Muzyka jest świetna, nawiązuje do retro klimatu i dźwięków z gier lat 80-tych i 90-tych. Szczególnie podoba mi się motyw główny ACEMAN - STARCHASER, który przygrywa także podczas wyścigów i nadaje tempa temu co widzimy na ekranie.

    Podsumowując
    Dawno nie grałem w coś podobnego, więc tym bardziej stylistyka 2D retro przyciągnęły mnie do 80's OVERDRIVE i wzbudziły zainteresowanie. Gra jest skrojona pod handhelda. Tytuł ma syndrom „jeszcze jednego wyścigu”, a tak naprawdę gra się ich jeszcze dziesięć. Insane Code stworzyło świetną grę wyścigową w niskiej cenie z rewelacyjną muzyką w klimacie retro. Urozmaicone trasy, pościgi policyjne, wymijanie przeciwników przy dużych prędkościach i długi Time Attack dla masterowiczów to pozytywne cechy tego tytułu.

    If all you new about the 80s was from this game you would think, well, that's fun here and there but it's not exactly hooking.

    I've played this game now 5 hrs. Don't expect this to be more than a short distraction.

    There are no night drives. No tunnels. No construction sites. No refueling while driving. Don't expect the diversity or challenge that you experienced in Outrun or Lotus 3.
    This game has extreme rubber banding. Touch slighty a bush or car and you are instantenously last place with no really chance to win the race in career.
    Fuel and damage adds nothing to the game, it just punishes you with excesive unnecessary costs. A full car repair is 5000 bucks - thats more than a new car or several upgrades! You have to do several races just to repair your car with no really progress.
    It's possible that you are not able to win a race even if playing perfectly if you don't have enough upgrades. You even lose money by going 3rd place. Not very encouraging if you choose a "harder" track that is unlocked, and you are not possible to win.
    In the track editor the most "difficult" tracks aren't a challenge at all. At least you don't have to brake once.
    Time attack mode is better but you have to go through career to get a better car.
    It looks like it's better not to buy a new car, should upgrade the old one.
    Expect to race the first round dozens of times because you get out of money because of race fees, repair costs and unfair crashes, and you can't afford the race fee for better tracks.
    This game is not bad, but it's no new master piece either. Nice graphics and music, driving isn't very challenging, and you get punished instead of encouraged in this game.
    You can't influence the other cars at all. I've even seen a police car racing unhindered through the bushes in the middle lane. And you will curse at these bushes you can barely avoid that pop out of nowhere and you can't see in time if you're racing uphill. So don't drive in the middle lane.
    I think this game is worth 5 bucks, but not 10. I don't recommend it if you get easily frustrated or don't like to grind the same tracks several times. A very good alternative is Out Run 3D that lacks the music and graphics, but is more interestingly to drive and has adjustable difficulty and is only 5 bucks.    … Expand
