They play this to inmates at Guantanamo bay, though it's difficult for anyone to hear over the chorus of anguish from the cells. The wise opt for water-boarding, or finger nail pulling; but many of the new inmates fall victim to this option because it seems easier at first. I was new once, I know what they all go through. It is a fate I would not wish on my worst enemy.

Well, it's fun to watch Sheldon Cooper as a child as we already seen how brilliant he is in the Big Bang Theory. It's a mixture of comedy, emotions. Loved the show. I love Meemaw ;-)

Love "Young Sheldon" and hope it stays on for multiple seasons. The writing and the acting is good. They did well casting the characters and love each one of them.

The writers tell a short story which is what I like. So many comedy sitcoms today are just a string of one liners filled with sexual innuendos. Happy this one is not written that way.

First of all, it's not as bad as many of you might think. It's not really a sitcom more of a coming of age series that mixes comedy and drama. It is not as funny as The Big Bang Theory, but the characters are more fleshed out and realistic. People that liked TBBT mostly for the one-liners and insults might find this show a bit boring. Those that were turned off by those traits in TBBT might be able to enjoy Young Sheldon.

    Personally, I enjoy both shows.

Great show, it could be longer 35 to 40 minutes long and it is good that it has NO laughs. If I may, the laughs in other comedies are not well accepted outside the US and even there the audience doesn't always likes it. Let us laugh as we please. Thank you. And for those who say one must be part of the show to like it, I answer that I only wish to be part of it.

Anyone who rates this program above a 2 is either a cast or crew member of the show, or related to the actors.

"Young Sheldon" is about as entertaining as "My Mother the Car" was decades ago.

Pretty good pilot. They played Sheldon to make him a likeable child. And we feel more sympathetic to him now that we actually see his upbringing. Young Sheldon has no comedy nor does it have a special touch to bring ourselves into the life of young Sheldon Cooper. Besides, making a comedy about a difficult family background is never a good answer to make money.

I really wanted to like this show, but it just does not work for me.

As I mentioned back in September (see below), I don't look at this show purely as a comedy but more of a bio-sit-com. My main issue with the show is that it is aggressively boring. My main issue with the show is that it is aggressively boring.

There's no laff track, but to compensate for that feature, there's the intrusive and annoying Sheldon commentary track.

Sometimes I feel as if I'm listening to the audiobook of Sheldon's childhood, read by Sheldon himself. That's not why I watch TV.

The cast seems quite capable, but even great actors can't carry a poor premise of a show..

I still like that scene in the first episode about the musical chords. If only that spark could have been conveyed through the subsequent episodes of the show. But that brilliance of script has been lost somewhere after episode 1. It now seems to be little more than a 'family with children' show.

Young Sheldon appears to be an unnatural spin-off of BBT. A failed attempt to capitalize upon the success of the early BBT years.

And it's off the ToDo list of shows for my DVR to record.

    =======================================
my previous comment from Sept 27, 2017 follows...

    Based solely upon the pilot:

    On the plus side,...

Iain Armitage fills out the character quite well, in spite of the script let-downs.

The lack of a laugh track is most welcome as the canned laughter on BBT has become most annoying and distractive. Any canned laughter here would be completely out of place, as this does not look to be a typical sitcom, but I'm sure that wouldn't stop the producers from over-using it.

I liked the music scene with the chords, and how it explained a trait of the BBT Sheldon. That was one of the better scenes in the pilot.

    ---

    Not on the plus side...

Is there any way to turn off the Sheldon commentary track? It would be much better if any needed details that Mr Parsons blabs on top of a scene were conveyed by the characters themselves, it certainly would give character development a needed boost. Because of the association to his character on BBT, Mr Parsons' voice is annoyingly grating whenever it appears.

That segues to the writing. It could be stronger. The dramatic scenes were too sappy in their efforts to evoke emotion. They became tedious to watch. Was the incorporation of the Sheldon commentary track a cave-in to allow Mr Parsons to participate, or was it to cover weak writing? I think it may be a combination of the two.

    ---

I don't want to write too much, as I saw only one show, usually I like to watch three before I give my opinions. Now there's a wait of more than a month before any more episodes appear. I'll have to see if I retain enough interest to track it down and watch. If I do, I'll probably be back around Thanksgiving time with more comments. :)

The fact that young Sheldon will eventually have to grow up to be adult Sheldon leaves very little potential space for character development, and even though the writers tried their best in the pilot to make Sheldon grow somehow, ultimately they can't have him become a normal person by the end of the series, unless they wrote in the retcon to trump all retcons.

Aside from that, the fact that young Sheldon is the kind of child that makes you want to root for the bullying of outsiders doesn't help the show either. People can usually identify with outsiders in some way, but I fear that very few people will be able to find a piece of themselves in this kid.

Flawed, but hilarious in parts. They go too far with some jokes, but it doesn't bother me as much as it does others. I find Georgie (Sheldon's brother) and Mary (Sheldon's mother) to be irritating, but Sheldon and his sister have fun banter.

The actresses in the series seem to have captured the essence of the corresponding characters we have seen in TBBT. Since we have not seen George or Georgie in TBBT, we only have their slightly mentioned attributes to go off of and in turn, those characters are less developed and imo are struggling. Definitely do not like the older brother or the male neighbor kid.

On the whole, this show has some possibilities. Really liked the Elon Musk tie in and his cameo at the end of a recent episode. Keep writing smart!

Look upon the face of death.
(unfortunately i can't add the image here. It's the main promo image with the bowtie, but the eyes are crossed out and the tongue is hanging out as if Sheldon has died.)

Kierkegaard, in “The Concept of Anxiety”: “When death appears in its true form as the gaunt, grim reaper, one beholds it not without fright. But when, to mock those who fancy they can mock it, death appears in disguise, when the observer sees that the unknown figure captivating everyone with his courtesy and causing all to exult in the wild gaiety of desires is death, then a profound terror seizes him.”

One thing I hate about this show is the way it adds an extra descriptor to basic academic concepts to make them sound more specific and difficult to understand. “Newtonian gravity.” “Euclidean geometry.” Like why not just **** say gravity?

    Why why why.

    “Young Sheldon” is violence.

There are few jokes to speak of, just situations that are funny or awkward--mostly awkward. ... The accents are spot-on and the lead performances are excellent, in particular Zoe Perry as the hero’s mom (a role played on the flagship series by Laurie Metcalf) and Lance Barber as his father George.
