So when I fast forward to the survival story line, it was pretty good at first, but then it gets ridiculously implausible. The movie "Alive" (1993) which is also about a downed plane carrying soccer player, is far better, and extremely similar in the main narrative. Which is based on a true story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What happened? The first season started a bit slow for me but totally had me hooked by the end. The second season was the opposite: I was heavily invested at the beginning but by the end I no longer cared. The writing took a nosedive in the final few episodes and the season finale was painfully weak. It pulled a Game of Thrones, but at least Yellowjackets had the decency to tank it in 2 seasons instead of dragging out for 8. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First season had 5 excellent episodes. The coordination of writers between episodes was sloppy. Often the viewer is given key fact in later episodes out of nowhere: Taiesa squabble with her lover in wilderness, Jackie well aware that shauna cheated with her boyfriend etc. The whodunnit on the blackmail was unbelievable. I made it through the season but was an effort. Expand

I found the first four episodes too long for how little the story managed to do in terms of mystery.

The first episode gives you a pretty clear idea of what the hell happened in their time in the wilderness and that portion of the story is more interesting than the modern day plot, because it's not until the 10th episode that it becomes clear that something important will also happen in the present, but at that point it feels late, considering that I personally think the 10 episodes were excessive in terms of storyline.

One of its strongest points is its cast. The one from both eras, although clearly the cast of the present day story with Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis Christina Ricci and Tawny Cypress have a lot much higher mileage.

It's a good enough show, but I honestly believe it needs to make clear soon in season 2 where it's going, because at this point I'm just not interested in watching a new Lost, that will feed and feed the mystery only to ultimately deliver a mediocre payoff.

But it is definitely worth a look.

The switching back and forth between timelines every few seconds (not exaggerating, most scenes are under a minute) makes the viewer exhausted. The acting is okay, but the script has extreme issues with characterization. The multiple characters in different times has the effect of barraging the viewer with so many dangling plot threads that literally anything can happen (this is not a good thing for storytelling). What is worse, is most of the time nothing is happening! After three episodes I had to bow out. It's bad and dumb, and I feel like I'm being emotionally abused if I watch anymore. Expand

However it fails to deliver. Episode 1 is endless, pointless and boring. I powered through it hoping their teenager lives and drama was just some necessary exposition to get into the main story but I was very wrong, that is the main story. It is a very odd choice have such an interesting story, a great cast and then focus on the least interesting portion of the timeline and furthermore, making it excruciatingly long and dull. One episode was enough for me. Expand

I'm not usually one to "binge watch" shows but if the episodes of this show were all available I would've definitely watched it all in less than a day.

Bunch of girls having to survive in the wilderness. And that is in there, pretty well done, too, but it is more about the horror of growing up and the horror of being a grown up, which sounds bleak, but it is done in an interesting and charming way. If it wants to, the show can be very sweet, genuinely funny, exciting, but also sad, puzzling, dark and violent, without overdoing any of it.
The show looks great, the music and soundtrack fit perfectly, and from kids to adults, just amazing performances.
I assume this is a show where you pretty quickly find out if you like it or not. I think it it a blast.

Wow! I wasn’t sure I’d like it after a friend recommended it. I mean a story about a teenage girls’ soccer team… Turns out it’s so much more. One of the best series ever made!

It's just a bad "current year" remake of Lord of the Flies with "stronk, independent" bender cast.

Lost is one of my all time shows and I was extremely excited about this! Started really well, but sadly I found as the season went on it's turned out to be a bit more lightweight than I was expecting. It's alright but not great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is being written with love and I honestly hope to not anger fellow users but help them decide if this series is for them or not. I come in peace and hope I will not anger the Yellowjackets fan-wagon which is going strong. This review is written after having watched all episodes so far, the last being the 5th of the second season.
I am sorry to report that this series is not worth our time. The presentation is great and the premise looks good, but after one season you realise it happens to deal with the same issues other mystery series with Lost being the leader and more recently the awful Servant, this series has no actual well-thought point and endgame. They are going about, with a rough, vague, "main" storyline and few explanations because, quite francly there are none- or there are but are so basic they are not worth being discused. The other issue I have is with the characters. I understand in 2023, the narative has fliped and there are no "good" or "lawfull good" or even "chaotic good" characters anymore, but in this series I have a strugle realizing who I am meant to root for. The series is not built like it wants to present the path of darkness, but more like... "you know what, **** it, they are all murderers, but arent they cool or cute or hilarious?". I don't get it. I wish there was a payoff to the mystery, but this series has stolen all that was written in Lost, and remember the ending? There were some highs, with the ending of the third season and the "Not Penny's Boat" magnificence, but OH DEAR after season 4 it got derailed because there was NO plan, NO surprise, NO payoff. Nothing. Because they went along, and let it go wherever, however. But the characters at least were... in a way consistent. With Yellowjackets, I am missing the point. I wish I knew who to root, or if I am for some (some?) justice? Some, like, a bit, a hero? Something. Redemption? Something. I dunno. I spent 15 hours so far, and don't want to keep at it. It feels like Servant. After the second season, it was pointless, only to finish in season 5 with a talk that could have happened in season 1, episode 1. Literally. I don't want the same from this, but its going there.
