Simmons’ thoughtful, engrossing, and altogether joyful new series carves its own path on the cold roads of America’s eastern seaboard. Whether you wanted more of “The End of the Fucking World” or not, seek this one out.

Wayne will suffer more often than not, and this is not a limited series, but a potentially ongoing one. But when he’s happy, if just for an instant, the show lights up around him.

It’s more superficial in its pleasures than many of the films and series it resembles, relying on style, attitude and the performances of McKenna and Bravo to pull the audience along as Wayne and Del ride a dirt bike to Florida to recover his father’s stolen ’78 Trans Am. Fortunately, the leads are good, even if the dialect work by them and others (Dean Winters and Abigail Spencer pop up at various points as Del’s mom and dad) is a touch shaky. ... Rarely dull.

Wayne is played by Mark McKenna ("Overlord") who you could easily mistake for Zach Braff of "Scrubs" fame. Wayne is a 16yo expelled-from-school sociopathic concoction who leaves small scale mayhem in his wake. Sorry, barely made it through ep2 before I bailed. This is not the type of story, type of people, or type of scenery that interest me. (Any high ratings you see here are obviously promotional shill-bots.) Full Review »
