    Voltron Legendary Defender is a worthy successor to the original series that stays true to its roots, though its ambition is tempered by its adherence to tradition.

    Is it good? Sure it is. Does it better its predecessor? Your cherished memories aside, that is a bar set low. So, yes, it does better them--by quite a lot and, at the same time significantly, not by too much. That is to say, for all its improvements in form and content, it has not sacrificed fundamental candy-colored cheesiness for fashionable dark modernity.

    I grew up watching the original, but never cared much for it. This iteration though has made me a fan.
    Its fun, charming and funny

    Only gripe I have is the first season climax felt shoe horned in.

Unlike the cobbled together original, this show has a coherent plot, interesting characters/good character development, and good plot setup for hopefully many more seasons.

    The animation, sound design, and acting are all top notch.

    It's a great update to the show that still pays homage to the original, while modernizing the narrative structure and (thankfully) gets rid of some of the cringier things from the original like the intro narration (love Peter Cullen, but listening to that intro as an adult really cements in my head how corny and juvenile the words in it are - "loved by good, feared by evil"....ehhh), and the terrible trumpet theme (I'm aware there are some vocal fans who think that theme was written by god himself).

    If I had one complaint, it's that the season ends far too suddenly, but if other Netflix shows are an indicator, there will be another group of episodes that actually complete this season so I won't dock a point since I believe the end to be more the middle of the season and not the actual season end. If there are no more episodes in like a year, I'll amend my review.    … Full Review »
