Although the show occasionally gets tripped up in its world-building, the story it’s telling remains one of the most vital, heartwarming, and fraught on TV.

“Vida” is an important series — for representation, for diversity, for women — but it’s also an entrancing and enjoyable bar story. Whatever you’re looking for, “Vida” has it.

The characters on Vida often behave stupidly, but this is a smart, smart show, one that looks at culture on high and low levels, from debates about the flavor and significance of Valentina hot sauce to a point-by-point breakdown of Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird.

While Vida is a series that embraces people who have been pushed to the fringes by a white-hetero-dominant culture, it’s also very much about family, and how being part of one means inheriting secrets, memories, debts, bitterness, and belongings that may take years to unpack.

Vida still feels torn between sudsy nude-positive melodrama and complex political dedication. Worth watching, though, just for Roberta Colindrez as a swagger-y bartender. [17/24 May 2019, p.94]

This is probably one of the best stuff I have ever seen on television all thanks to the fantastic performances from the main cast and crewThis is probably one of the best stuff I have ever seen on television all thanks to the fantastic performances from the main cast and crew that invented this show. Plus, the dazzling cinematography and the overall writing of this season vastly improves greatly from the first season. No wonder why Vida ceases to break more boundaries as this latest season brings in more steamy action and points that are quite relevant in today's modern life. Full Review »
