This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awful awful awful. As a Scooby fan, this was a real kick in the teeth. But that’s how it was designed. Wasn’t it? A troll show. I don’t understand how advertisers think hate watchers are going to buy their products (The only reason they’re making season 2. Right?. They’re not. I’m not. In fact, I have a chip on my shoulder against anyone who funded this trash heap. This is not Scooby Doo. This is not Velma. “Norville” is not Shaggy. The political message is beyond trite. Makes progressives look like fools. I watched two episodes of this and had to stop bc I was screaming. Mindy Kaling is always going to be “that annoying fool who screwed up Scooby” to me. There’s no back-pedaling from this. I am actively not purchasing anything being sold by HBO “The Max” Warner Brothers if I can help it. And it’s all bc of Kaling and this steaming pile of a cartoon. Tip: “Don’t take shots at your audience!”
The contempt these writers have for cartoon viewers is disgusting. As a writer, I know how thin the line is. But they want to think they’re better than us? And that we all live in Mommy’s basement? Don’t worry, Kaling, WB, I’ll remember this! And do will many others.

Will hate watchers on S1 translate over to S2?
I don’t think so. I couldn’t make it past episode 2. It seems like the only ones who could were YouTubers. I really hope this isn’t where entertainment is headed—a world where content is made terribly on purpose to cause a flood of reaction videos. And as someone who made two reaction videos too Velma, I now regret it.

And I haven’t even touched on how disgusting and creepy the show’s “humor” is…

What is this fascination w sexualizing teens in media lately? There’s a nude locker room scene in the first episode. They’re supposed to be in high school!

Greenlit season 2? No, WB. NO.

Velma has been renewed for a second season. I, for one, isn't shocked by this. Normally a show with these laughable ratings would be cancelled - of course - but shows that has a clear agenda pretty much always get one or two seasons moreVelma has been renewed for a second season. Excuses, pushing blame and total incapability to admit they might actually suck at this. "We're just being review bombed! There CAN'T be other reasons!" 2. The network is afraid of bringing down the axe, in fear of being called this or the other.
My advice to the networks: just stop encouraging shows like this. Stop wasting money on shows that undoubtedly will be cancelled and forgotten 1 or 2 years down the line anyways.… Expand

I thought rings of power was bad, this show set a new level of bad... there is absolutely zero redeeming quality to this show. I do not understand this series. When I first heard about it I thought that it was a more adult take on the characters for the now grown up fans that loved Scooby-Doo as kids, like myself, but it isn't. The jokes are very bland and never hit. When watching Velma I am constantly asking myself "Why?". They completely butchered the Scooby-Doo ip. Главная героиня не уважает никого, она похотливая, злопамятная, и как бы это не странно она расистка. Это она подозревала Фреда в убийсте только из за того что он белый богатый мужчина. Кто тут расист?
Это ещё не всё, она не остановилась, она смеялась над итальянцами и т.д.
Издевалась над лжеШегги после того как он предложил ему свидания. Она не ставит никого в серьоз. Когда авторША этого сериала сказала что образ Велмы взята из ее жизни я все понял. Это не сериал о Велме. Это сериал о жизни закомплексованной дуре которая решила выговориться через сериал. Ведь если она это сделает в реальной жизни, скорее она получит по голове.
Встречайте худшая экранизация Скуби-Ду (в котором нет самого Скуби-Ду). Позор… Expand

The art & coloring are good compared to anything on Nick or CN, but the shading & highlighting could have been pushed further. The show improves by episode 4 when the show starts to build lore. I have to say please don`t watch this show and don`t give it any recognition. This show is the definition of unfunny jokes. Obviously no, Norah Vincent who disguised herself as a man for 18 months. The experience disturbed her so much that she fell into a severe depression and spent the next year in a mental hospital. This show is making fun of masculinity, but then says "Fred you have to be masculine". The show makes fun of mental health and going to therapy, but then says "Mental health is no joke". The show says how men are bad (white men in particular), but in the next scene the Daphne stabs the other girl. The murders should be taken seriously and also not??? The show talks about the wage gap and patriarchy, but also shows how high school girls try to seduce the police, which are there to protect from murder. Scooby-Doo is a part of my soul, my childhood, a fabric of my existence growing up. So a Scooby-Doo show without Scoob and Shaggy as Norville isn't Scooby-Doo. Nope. They ruined it. Took a very succesful property, injected it with nonsense, ruined every character and tried to use it to further an agenda that litteraly 1 % of the population loves. Terrible show.

I was never a huge fan of Scooby Doo but I remember it fondly from when I was a kid. What they've done here is an abomination. "Velma" on HBO is a disaster of a television show and hands down the worst show of all time. So many 'jokes' can be summed up by 'because white males SUCK!'. The writer's lack such awareness of what they write in an attempt to virtual signal, that they end up being r@cist and s3xist. The second grave sin committed by this show is how the show takes nothing from the actual scooby doo series other than it's a mystery and velma solves mysteries. I’ve seen shows disrespect its source material, but I’ve never seen a show which disrespects the original series this much and convinces me that the writers have also never seen or heard of scooby doo before. Freddy is just an ‘evil white male’ stereotype. Daphene is an ‘evil hot white b****’ stereotype. Shaggy is not a hippy, looks and acts nothing like shaggy and has a secret crush on Velma. Velma is an aggressive woke feminist.

The show tries so hard to be meta, and edgy, constantly breaking the 4th wall, awkwardly adding nudity of minors (15 year olds). The show, while trying to fight the ‘evil s3xist creepy white males’ ends up sexualizing children! It doesn’t get more ironic than that. I’m sure the Velma show runners are patting themselves on their rumps, that they have generated so much publicity for this show, using the same tired tactic that it must be racists and sexists who dont like the show and that’s why some people think it’s bad. No, it’s just a bad show. Regardless of your political affiliation, this show is pure cringe.… Expand

The reviews of the show are more entertaining and stimulating than the show itself. I'm perfectly content never seeking out this show to watch it, because it's worth no one's time.

When the reviews and critiques are better than the show itself, you know there's a problem.

They made a show basically crapping on the audience who loved the original Scooby Doo. It's a weird, hate-filled show made by minorities trying to be funny but failing so badly that they are rejected by even the minorities.

Even Dragon Ball Evolutions was better than this. That's saying something.… Expand

If it was a complete different theme or franchise or whatever this crappy show is going to pretend that it is, it won't work, because every single "joke", every single "character", every single line on the script, those are real villains on the show. The animation is pretty great, and I'm sorry for the animators on the show, but seriously guys it won't work. Velma is annoying as the main character on the show, Velma just fits on the edgy kids that feels really smart for joke around for the society and how the popular kids are more stupid for being popular, stf kid you're not special, you're just a single piece on this puzzle that you won't fit, step the hell out of this world... You just talk crap and tell that you always wanted to murder somebody for this and that. Anything that creators are supposed to "create" on this show is bad.… Expand

A childhood favorite that is quite nearly beyond recognition. And believe me, this is far from a case of "so bad it's even good". More than anything, this show resembles an adaptation of aA series for those who hate Scooby-Doo (as well as detectives and good humor). The authors pile on tons of cringe.
And believe me, this is far from a case of "so bad it's even good". More than anything, this show resembles an adaptation of a fanfic written by a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
There is no: interesting plot, atmosphere or funny jokes.

But a separate mention must be made of the characters, they just took and twisted the characters we have known since 1969. And I'm not talking about the change of skin color and sexual orientation (very strange decisions), but about the characters themselves: Velma is no longer a smart girl detective, she became very rude and unpleasant, Daphne is a drug dealer, Fred became a hysterical freak, and Shaggy - well, he's just a piece of garbage.

I think Charlie Grandy, the writers and Mindy Kaling should be cancelled for this.… Expand
