While the premise is interesting enough, the show is stuffed with tiresome jokes that fail to pack a punch.

Overall, its aggressively bro tone—especially as it’s often presented in quotation marks, winking at you that it knows what it’s doing even as it offers no commentary on which to hang that ironic posturing—remains strident and borderline obnoxious throughout.

Simply put: Universal Basic Guys is a deeply unfunny show. And when it’s not funny, then all of the other problems the show has are amplified.
