At best, it reminds sitcom fans that quality work is still being done in multi-camera; at worst, it’s a decent distraction during the hiatus for Heelan’s other show, the final link to a comic dynasty that wasn’t meant to be.
-
Undateable still doesn't quite capture the zany entirety of D'Elia's comic style, but it comes closer than anything he's done so far. The rest of the cast is solid; the writing works; the familiar situation is at least freshened by snappy direction and appealing characters.
-
Undateable, a show that does not set out to reinvent the multi-camera hangout comedy but execute that format reasonably well, turned out to be a generally pleasant surprise.
-
Undateable airs in times when summer series aren’t always the throwaways they used to be. This may not be a keeper but it may well grow on viewers rather than wear on them.
-
Amusing, dumb, silly--exactly what you'd expect.
-
Undateable may be unoriginal, but it’s not unwatchable.
-
It’s watchable but it’s not unforgettable and, oddly, it could be.
-
The Undateable pilot was a real chore to get through, in part because Danny is just such an obnoxious collection of dude-bro stereotypes.... Later episodes get better, because they start moving away from the idea of Danny as some kind of sexual Jedi master whom the others are lucky to be learning from.
-
If there were a Match.com for sitcoms, this show would be blocked, banned and forgotten.
-
It's still hard to expect much out of a sitcom arriving on broadcast TV in summer. In the case of NBC's Undateable, that's a good attitude. If you get a few laughs out of it, great. Otherwise, no hopes will be dashed.
-
Amid the dated material and the forced efforts to create catchphrases on Undateable, there is some skill in evidence.
-
Both [Undateable and "The Night Shift"] are NBC series serving as spring-summer filler, adequate at what they do but not worth scheduling your life around.
-
The show's main problem is that the guys, straddling the line between undateable-cute and undateable-unlikeable, more frequently fall into the latter camp. [2 Jun 2014, p.46]
-
Since just about every character is neurotic, cartoonish or annoying, you end up rooting for them to remain dateless.
-
Sporadically funny, this Bill Lawrence production is unpretentious, but ultimately tedious.
-
There’s no one to care about, no laughs, and nothing that you haven’t seen before.
-
Thanks to its cheap jokes and tired premises--it’s begging to be declared Unwatchable. [30 May/6 Jun 2014, p.113]
-
This show's got nothing but laugh track.
-
Undateable probably isn’t a show many sitcom fans will want to make a standing date to watch.
