The supernatural elements are more grounded than in the usual CW fare, and the backdrop of an impoverished community adds unexpected realism. This “Trickster” is worth watching.

Series adapters Latimer and Tony Elliott litter enough enticing clues tied to local Indigenous mythology to steadily amp up curiosity, but the pacing is much closer to an indie movie than your typical CW drama, which normally would condense the events of these first two episodes into the first two acts of the pilot. ... The novelty of the show's setting allows the show to maintain interest in a way the pacing doesn't, and there's a vein of dark humor that helps as well.

We’ll give Trickster points for having a mostly Indigenous cast and writing staff. But the show itself has to become a bit less bleak for us to want to keep watching.

Trickster does achieve a certain underlying creepiness, but it's often hard to distinguish that from the general desolation of the landscape.
