Thorne: Sleepyhead, has enough twists, turns, red herrings and multi-layered narrative to keep you couch-bound for its entire two hours.
-
The result is intelligent if occasionally dense tales that focus on the hardest part of a detective's job, which is trying to outthink someone whose thinking is already, by definition, off-center.
-
Encore offers Thorne: Sleepyhead, a powerful and gripping British import starring David Morrissey as Detective Inspector Tom Thorne.
-
The first film is well constructed to be unnerving; the second offers the sight of "Grey's" Dr. Yang toting a revolver. Both make for creepy-rich summer viewing.
-
In Sleepyhead, the better of the two, someone is killing women by inducing strokes....In Scaredy Cat the crimes are just as bizarre, though the outcome is more predictable.
-
Thorne isn't a powerhouse like "Luther," but if you enjoy crime fiction, it's fast-paced and well-acted enough to be worth your time.
-
The production has grit, yes, but for all its poking and prodding at what makes the title character and his quarry tick, Thorne never gets under your skin.
