Abomination destroyed by modern broken times.
Season 1 was watchable but not all the time.
Season 2 is one big joke after 1st episode.
Season 3 is just an insult.

Worst adaptation on Netflix. Scenario - 0/10, Miscast - 100/10, costumes - 0 / 10, SJW theme - 1000/10.
H. Cavill - the only good in whole story about Herald of Rivia in that Netflix adaptation.

You realize which a series is a complete failure when you start to receive spams from Netflix asking you to watch until the end.
Really... Just drop it, Netflix. You spoiled the story, there is no need to prolong this suffering.

Adaptations of characters and story is absolutely fine but everything here in this series is nonsensical and a complete and utter mess. Unranked amateurs is the only way I can think of to describe the writers and directors as the majority of the actors and actresses are doing their best to squeeze a diamond out of a turd of a script. I'm done with this series I'm going to dedicate my time to programming that isn't helmed by inept buffoonery. Expand

Somehow, I fell into the world of The Witcher, I've now finished all the games, read the books, listened to the stories, so I was really looking forward to the series, and this is truly a tragedy. Henry carried the entire series on his shoulders. Once again, a mess for fulfilling your idiotic quotas.

I can't recall any famous blockbuster from a SLAVIC setting. I was looking forward to some new Slavic folk music; your pop music is pure cringe that made my toes curl. Even if Blizzard is a failed company in many ways, they made sure that the film warcraft was good. I can't understand how CD Projekt/Sapkowski allowed such a rape of The Witcher (Maybe after Cyberpunk, i understand). The Slavic touch is completely absent. It's more like modern London... It's a shame we can't give negative ratings. -10 for the series, +100 for Henry. I wish you bankruptcy for destroying another brand I loved!

I take it as racism against Slavs.

PS: Better watch this on youtube PO POL STOROČÍ POÉZIE - ZAKLÍNAČ FAN FILM (there are subs for that ) , it's much better and the film was made by amateurs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The series starts really pulling your leg. For now reason at all Yennefer has been forgiven for all she did in season two, Ciri just went over it. Geralt took more or less two episodes to forgive Yennefer. The first 5 episodes practically exclude, episode by episode, Geralt and becomes Yennefer/Ciri centric, why? For what reason the Witcher series is all but about the Witcher? Is there some type of reason for this? Why does this TV series go so much off the rails compared to the original books? The story isn't even slightly similar to the games. Even the numerous fans of the book and games are shouting out to the producers asking, at this point, to terminate this horror of, well whatever you want to say (or think). Expand

I played the game three times and read some of the literature. I endured the identity politics of the Netflix series at launch, but I should've seen this would systematically take centre stage as the series progressed. I find it utterly disgusting that creatively bankrupt writers abuse not only the public entertainment stage, but also widely loved story-IP and twist it into poorly fabricated concoctions that serve little more than promoting their far-left morally depraved ideology. As if that isn't enough they still have the audacity to blame their resulting failure on the fans of the original IP. Expand

The writing was terrible and haphazardly cobbled together into a disorganised plot, the costume design was truly terrible at times, the action sequences had potential but were always too short and barely ever happened. The witcher is a monster hunter and you see a handful of monsters and the CGI for them is either bad or serviceable but you quickly learn they have very few tools in the box for designs even though they have a full game catalogue of designs to pull from.

The heavy leftist ideology pushed throughout the show sends it fully over the cliff with everyone being brown somehow in a story created by a white European using white European folklore, black washing works is unacceptable. Its as unacceptable as it would be if a black writer created a fantasy based on African folklore and it got whitewashed. Race swapping established characters is divisive, unnecessary, harmful and creates nothing of value. The showrunner, producers and writers will never admit fault, they will never admit it was their lack of vision, incompetence and their brutal shove it down your throat attitude with their far left extremist ideology that destroyed what had the potential to be a great live action adaption in a franchise that has renowned books and games.

F you Netflix.

Oh dear.

Absolute travesty of an adaptation. A Witcher-series where the Witcher isn't the main character.

The characters aren't themselves, their relationships and dynamics are changed. The world isn't the same and the rules that govern it are ignored.

It seems the writers haven't decided if they should be inventing a wholly new narrative or if they should follow the original, and the result is a hot mess. A mixture which contradicts itself, and in which the characters' actions make even less sense.

Only thing in common with the original works are names of places and characters. And monsters I guess.

I held out on watching this when it released, just so I could binge multiple seasons when it was finished. And yikes, stopped at S2 finale - couldn't take this anymore.

A point for Geralt's wig, and another to Dandelion's song in S1.

The first two episodes are just about bearable, then the third and fourth are so bad that I longed for the end of the episodes by fast-forwarding on the remote control. The Witcher is just a rip-off of itself, weak and a sidekick for the two totally annoying and know-it-all toxic feminists Ciri and Yennefer, plus we have the following to look forward to, LGBTQ and diversitiy (In a Polish fantasy almost half the actors are black ?!) I watched second season - it was bad, but Henry Cavill still was good as Gerald. Damage was done, terrified screenwriters rushed to the books to insert some random references without understanding, but "Witcher" is now damaged beyond repair. Just watched first part of season 3 and it's so bad: plot-holes, dreadful dialogs, altered characters, cheap costumes, boring - but Henry Cavill did great job, sadly he is now only SIDEKICK. PROS: Henry Cavill as Gerald! CONS: everything else... S01: 5/10, S02: 2/10, S03: let it burn! That is enough. THE END! No more talking about this abomination, NO MORE WATCHING!. Expand

The video game is based on novels of the same name written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Sapkowski's work is often used for source material on various entertainment projects.

I'll say I was almost shocked at the high quality of this video series. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich was the creator and showrunner for the series - which I did not know until after I watched the first episode. She has a very respectable filmography and I assume she has a very large role in the high quality of the series.

Obviously, not everyone is going to like an action/adventure/fantasy video series - but, if this is the type of subject material you favor, I would highly recommend that you watch this series.

It probably needs to be pointed out that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich first noteworthy writing effort was for the liberal/leftest American TV series "The West Wing". Hissrich has a strong liberal/leftest ideology that she imparts to this series. Some viewers may not be able to accept this because they are so strongly opposed to her political and social beliefs and/or because it is not within the original spirit of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski works. Regardless, the series itself is of high quality within the context of writing, casting, acting, directing, editing, costume, set design, etc, etc.

I just now took a look at the Metacritic user-ratings .This show is obviously not a "10" and it is obviously not a "0" - but, somewhere betwixt. There is an obvious highly emotional reaction to how Hissrich has deviated from the source material and re-imagined the Witcher into a woke/social-justice platform. I'm ignoring that issue for the most part in my review as I prefer to ignore political/religious/social issues in regard to fictional entertainment.
*********************************************************
I've started watching the 3rd season of the NetFlix series of The Witcher.
Henry Cavill who plays the main character role of Geralt of Rivia - a magically enhanced monster-hunter known as a "witcher".
Henry Cavill was not in the second season - and, now looking back over the three seasons the impact that Cavill has had on the series is extremely noticeable.
Henry Cavill is a good actor - but, more so, the Witcher character is perfect for his personality and acting traits.

AllI don't know what it is, modern feminists or woke equity politics, but how is it possible to mess up a story as great as The Witcher. The books and the games have already established a massive fan base, and the story is already written. All they have to do is transcribe it from book to screen, and you'd have the best show of the decade. It's so simple. You have to be a extremely bad writer/director/producer to make something so great so bad. It's also extremely unethical to take someone's life's work and change the source material with such disrespect. Then, just to make everything so much worse, you add on top of that fan baiting. Fan Baiting is done on purpose to not only stir up controversy for publicity but also serves as a barrier to real criticism and ensures that the show will succeed because if anyone has a different opinion, they will just be labeled as a "racist/sexist/transphobe/etc." and their opinion is ignored. It's a method to make everyone think you're virtuous when really you're just a horrible person spreading hate with anyone who has a different opinion than your own. You act like you're fighting fascism by spreading and using fascism. It's hypocrisy in action. Expand

The strenghts of the show include Henry Cavill and the Yennifer actress plus the Pavetta storyline. I don't know why Hollywood has such a hard time sticking to the lore, these books have been immensely successful, they spawned 3 great games which too have been immensely successful, if they copied either the books or the games they'd have less work to do and much higher success, instead the writers/director decided to inject intersectional politics (look it up to see why most modern TV/Movies sucks). Mediocre writing, changing the lore, slow pace, unfortunately this show looks like generic, bland, woke cr*p that you see in all modern entertainment, it's just a fantasy setting with characters that you vaguely know but at the same time they don't act or talk like you think they would. It seems the writers wanted to make their own show which would have failed had they not baited the fans with the Witcher brand. Adding to the pile of revived and desecrated corpses of once great franchises and characters such as Obi-Wan, Star Trek, Willow, we add the Witcher. What else will Hollywood desecrate? Expand

Possibly the least difficult thing to adapt to is the weak casting or certain characters, the descriptions in the books are not often honoured by the show but probably not easy to find people described in the books. It's watchable, it's probable that many of us were spoilt by the incredible games, but it is also a let down and I would say that the head writer is most to blame, alongside the producer. I've never rated tv before but I wasn't able to pass such a nonsense.

There are few main things to mention:
1. Story is badly written. It switch contexts extremely often. I was not even able realize what's going on. Even if I read books before!
2. Feminism agenda is very aggressive. This tv is not about witcher, it is about Yennifer and Ciri. Witcher, who is supposed to be cool guy like a Conan, is shown as dum puppet. He is dull and barely speaks words. In contrast, Yennifer's personal line is rich and emphasized.
3. Diversity agenda is also exceptionally aggressive. People of colors in every scene of this slavic fantasy. Fantasy genre has historic background in middle ages Europe where people of colors where not so common. It happened because most of kingdoms where small and essentially represented monoculture. I.e. it is normal for any middle age kingdom to be all white or all black or all asian, but not the crazy mix of different colors. But here we see just that, every kingdom here is small NY city in miniature. The Witcher universe contains multiple races but I wasn't able to realize who was elf or dwarf. Compared to that it is just impossible to miss difference in races in Lord of the Rings or Hobbit movies.
4. The cast - this is the worst cast I've ever seen. H. Cavil is exception but he can't save this show from bad writing.
This TV is complete trash. I was furious at the beginning but I've given it the second chance. Then I finally realized this show is just boring and weak.
To Netflix: do you really think this is what women want to watch? How is your analytics? I bet this sh... is not popular among women nor men anymore.

Tragedy. One of the worst series. For brainless Tik Tokers. For witcher fans the worst that could possibly arise. Clearly, promoting deviance these days is more important than telling a good story.

Netflix has done it again, I remember Henry Cavill stating that he was in for the 7-seasons if the writers did a good job telling the stories of The Witcher and keeping true to the source material.

Guess this is going down the Netflix toilet.
