I'll say I was almost shocked at the high quality of this video series. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich was the creator and showrunner for the series - which I did not know until after I watched the first episode. She has a very respectable filmography and I assume she has a very large role in the high quality of the series.

Obviously, not everyone is going to like an action/adventure/fantasy video series - but, if this is the type of subject material you favor, I would highly recommend that you watch this series.

It probably needs to be pointed out that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich first noteworthy writing effort was for the liberal/leftest American TV series "The West Wing". Hissrich has a strong liberal/leftest ideology that she imparts to this series. Some viewers may not be able to accept this because they are so strongly opposed to her political and social beliefs and/or because it is not within the original spirit of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski works. Regardless, the series itself is of high quality within the context of writing, casting, acting, directing, editing, costume, set design, etc, etc.

I just now took a look at the Metacritic user-ratings .This show is obviously not a "10" and it is obviously not a "0" - but, somewhere betwixt. There is an obvious highly emotional reaction to how Hissrich has deviated from the source material and re-imagined the Witcher into a woke/social-justice platform. I'm ignoring that issue for the most part in my review as I prefer to ignore political/religious/social issues in regard to fictional entertainment.

Henry Cavill was not in the second season - and, now looking back over the three seasons the impact that Cavill has had on the series is extremely noticeable.

I was afraid about this series, but the Netflix really gave us what we wanted, the real Witcher feeling. I started being a fanboy to the Witcher with the games (as i think everyone do), and after a while I read the book series, and I am still love in it, it became my favourite book series. It is hard to adapt a collection of short-stories even if it in chronological order, but in the Witcher case, it wasn't, and this is the reason why they have to change plenty of thing, but they changed it in a very good and satisfying way. The actors and actresses were very good, especially Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Myanna Buring. This is a must see series everyone who likes even a bit the fantasy genre, i really looking forward to the next season.… Expand

Best show i've ever seen, have played the games the first witcher is boring and a slog to play, the second a massive improvement and highly recommend, the third is the best of the lot. No one person holds this t.v show together, even the cameos of less actors are really well done based on plot and their lines.

The second season is by far the best and i didn't think it could get better after the secoond season, really anticipating the third season. When i heard Henry Cavil was playing Geralt i was really sceptical he could do it, but his execution is flawless doesn't play Geralt like he's a cartoon, but doesn't suck the life out of him either, the lines and quips they gave him are perfect doesn't overplay it. Can't believe the user score is so low for this show, it's a masterpiece.… Expand

I enjoyed the story of the witcher but I have to say the characters are far too simple. Geralt just broods and kicks ass, Jaskier cracks jokes and sings his heart out, and Yennefer selfishly seeks more power. Most of the supporting characters are also annoyingly try-hard. Jaskier's jokes are supposed to bring relief but as the show progressed they became cringier. His whole persona is trite and robs scenes of their seriousness.

The main thing that I really enjoyed was the lore of the magic and monsters. Seeing Yennefer become acquainted with the rules of magic and learning about the monsters Geralt was hunting was entertaining.… Expand

As a person who hasn't read the books and only knows that the game exists (+ having seen screenshots here and there) this series is quite awesome. Personally the nudity and gore makes it occasionally hard to watch but I suppose that is what the source material is like. The story is also a bit hard to follow with all sorts of names thrown around here and there that you are expected to memorize at that moment.

Really looking forward to seeing more of this series in the future. The first two seasons have me hooked.… Expand

Los efectos presentes son de una calidad increíble y te dejan con ganas de ver su límite (se nota que se invirtió bastante). La actuación y los diálogos son espectaculares y te hacen oensar que no podrían haber mejores intérpretes.
El 10 no se lo gana porque sí hay veces en las que uno se empieza a desprender un poco y a perderse, pero luego se engancha fácilmente con alguna otra escena. Otro factor es que en el primer capítulo de la segunda temporada (creo que era ese) se produce un mínimo error en uan parte del diálogo de uno de los personajes, haciendo que se escuche su vos por una milésima de segundo un poco distorsionada (me siento muy crítico, pero es algo que quería agregar).
La verdad es que me fascinaron ambas temporadas (al punto en el que me las termino cada una en medio día) y estoy ansioso por que salga la tercera. Recomiendo esta serie 100% a cualquier persona que quiera ver algo emocionante, con acción algo diferente a lo común, porque los va a terminar enganchando tanto como a mí, al punto de que van a querer empezar a leerse los libros.… Expand

Great enjoyable viewing. Good action scenes, sufficient comedic relief to keep it from getting overly dark. Good acting generally though there could be improvements here.

Putting Henry Cavill in the role of The Witcher was a good choice in my opinion, but what was not a very good choice is no offense to actress Triss, who is a black woman. I'm not a racist or anything, but I'm just supposed to be a white Triss character and I stand for it. On the other hand, Yennefer was most pleased. Her storyline was the best and, conversely, Ciri had the worst storyline, which sometimes had boring parts. . But overall, this is a great series that I can recommend.

Cavill gets a lot of flack but I think he puts in a good turn as Geralt. He's surrounded by a great cast, with generally good writing. As a fan of the series, I am 99% satisfied. I watched season 1 already 8 times and did not even think to change my rating for the worse. It's a terrific show and hope, after the horrific Game of Thrones finale. The only problem with The Witcher series is very little, despite the lengthy 8 episodes. The Witcher universe is too big and the story is very complex, so I understand the indignation of many fans who wanted to see a lot, but because of the cinema, it is impossible to show and tell everything. Nevertheless, season 1 showed a decent backstory and allowed those who were not familiar with the story to get acquainted with it. Great start of the series !!!
What we liked:
1) The cast. It seemed to me quite acceptable. All actors are well accepted in the role of certain characters, but this does not mean that the casting is perfect. There is work to do!
2) Acting in some cases, I was simply amazed at how well the actors convey the images of the main characters. Personally, I felt a strong resemblance to Geralt of Rivia as Henry Cavill, Yennefer as Anya Chalotra and Jaskier as Joey Batey - they are just great and well conveyed the emotions and characters of the characters. The rest of the actors were also pretty good to one degree or another, but it was season 1, so it's too early to criticize.
3) Narration. Even if it seemed confusing, but quite logically it revealed the beginning of the story without focusing on the main thing in order to make it possible to understand.
4) The series is filmed very well. Each episode is pleasant to watch, the scenery is pleasing to the eye, it is interesting to watch what is happening and there is nothing superfluous.
What did you dislike or embarrass:
1) Gnomes! Didn't the creators of the series watch The Lord of the Rings? The same applies to dragons, which were well, not at all like those images to which we are accustomed. The dragons in the show were more like a breed of dragons.
2) Costumes are weapons! This is an important component, but for some reason they save on it. especially the armor of Geralt in the photo from the filming of season 2 (in season 1, his armor was much better !!!).

The Witcher season 1 is ok . the good parts of season 1 are , I enjoyed the fight scene and the acting was amazing hennery carvel made Geralt real , the timeline was messy at first both after a few episodes it made sens and some of the monsters look rely real and the best part about the witcher is the story Geralt plot was a lot a short storesy
like the first book boht yennifers plot was the best how she had to overcome evriting and the ending ended kinda in a clif hanger the last tingh i wil say about the good parts is that this is beased on the books not on the games and I am a big fan of the games so this was a new story to me. THE Bad , there isnt a lot of bad tings bouth there is a litel ciri story was the most predictybal and some of the locations didn t look that fantesy .
the witcher is so underated .
it is a must watch for fans of the books or the games and for new people who don t know the story of the witcher… Expand

Being a big Witcher fan, this Netflix-adapted series surprised me, despite many of Netflix's series turning out to be not as good as expected. The Witcher series has more potential. Season 1 was nice but was little bit fast paced.

First of, Henry Cavill as Geralt is the best part of this show. No doubt about that. The show is worth watching just for his portrayal. He really caresThe Witcher series has more potential. Season 1 was nice but was little bit fast paced.

First of, Henry Cavill as Geralt is the best part of this show. No doubt about that. The show is worth watching just for his portrayal. He really cares about the character. The fight Choreography is nice. Moments between Jaskier and Geralt were also nice. There were some bad casting choices like Triss, Foltest and the Driads.

All in all its worth the watch if you're a fan of the Witcher games/books. I can't praise Henry enough for his performance though. Seriously.… Expand

Upon first hearing about this series I was hesitant. It had a lot of potential to be a disaster as Netflix sometimes manage to butcher some good source materials but it was quite surprising. Sure, the cast could have been better but I got the same bold and sarcastic Geralt and the ambitious Yennefer I knew from the game universe. The first episode wasn't impressive and almost make me regret starting it but once the story starts unfolding for real I was hooked. Me ha gustado bastante el inicio de la serie, como persona que se ha leído los libros, hay algunas cosas que me han y que no me han gustado, principalmente en la elección de algunos actores y decisiones de meter actos o no meter actos losMe ha gustado bastante el inicio de la serie, como persona que se ha leído los libros, hay algunas cosas que me han y que no me han gustado, principalmente en la elección de algunos actores y decisiones de meter actos o no meter actos los cuales puedan ser importantes para la trama.

Pero en si me ha parecido un buen comienzo para la serie, es cierto que el primer libro y el segundo los ha puesto casi enteros en una temporada, pero esque el primer libro en si no tiene mucho más que historias sueltas e inconexas y no habría sido buena idea iniciar una serie tan larga con un empezar tan flojo.

Henry Cavil borda el papel como Geralt, pero se nota que su papel esta más basado en el Geralt de los videojuegos que en el de los libros, Geralt en los libros es más hablador y dialoga en cada situación, aquí lo han querido hacer más duro y fuerte como termina siendo en los juegos, lo cual no me parece mal es cuestión de gustos.

La armadura de Nilfgaard es una absoluta vergüenza, aunque después tienes todo el resto de personajes que visten a la perfección, lo cual cuesta creer que sea la misma persona la que ha hecho las dos cosas pero bueno.... espero que para siguientes temporadas cambien eso, ya que vamos a ver bastante a los soldados de Nilfgaard.

En si esta bastante bien, un primera temporada buena, y losiento mucho aquellos que vengan de ver juego de tronos y esperen en una temporada un trama tan desarrollada como las 8 que tiene GOT (La cual termino siendo una M), ¿Osea estamos tontos o que? volver a ver la primera temporada de juego de tronos y analizar lo que cuenta de todo su universo.

Es normal son historias con muchos personajes e igual que en la primera temporada de GOT no conoces a la mitad de los personajes ni problemas políticos ni trama principal, aquí tampoco.

Asique por dios dejar de comparar las series ya, que tanto en trama en objetivo y en mensaje las dos series van a terminar siendo muy distintas si son fieles a los libros.… Expand

I am split about this series. As a hige fan of the WItcher it was great to see and learn more about my favourite characters, but on the other hand, I can tell this didn't have the same budget as Game of Thrones. The cast itself was very good. Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri) all did a great job in my opinion. And the action was also very good, the fight scene at the end of the first episode and the last episode in gerenal were both fantastic (action wise). However he negative of this series is the story. I had to look at multiple explanations online as it is pretty confusing and jumps around timewise. I think the fact that the episodes aren't in chronologial order does a disservice and once I properly understood the story it all seemed better, but viewers shouldn't need to look at recaps onlin, the sries should make it clear. Now as I said, I did enjoy the series as a whole and I'm looking forward to season 2, but I really hope they improve on the story and make it more logical because this series has potentiall and it would be a shame it it didn't live up to it… Expand

The cast is solid and the source material is great. The only thing holding this back was how they chose to tell the story. First of all, I’m a Witcher fan. Read the books, played the games. Very happy they are making this series. The show is a mixed bag. Don’t expect GOT, it has not the same budget and writers. The monster are both Bad ass and terrifying
I also loved the focus on Yennifer and Ciri and showing the core three in different periods.

Cons:
The show does overlook some key parts from the books.
They could of done better casting wise.

I liked the series. It was good, but nothing spectacular. The only thing to complain about is, that it's full of racism. As a slavic, who is deeply connected with the slavic culture, it hurts to see that slavic people are played by coloredI liked the series. It was good, but nothing spectacular. As a slavic, I don't feel offended by black people playing slavic characters because I'm not a looser of life.)… Expand

It's a fun sword & sorcery overall. The majority of the cast is great and the plot is interesting. I'm excited for season 2.

Well, i have mixed feelings for this but in overall i was amazed and i respect the director because it was loyal to the books!
We were in need of an actor that was a genuine gamer, he played the games,was a fan of them,knew who is Geralt andWell, i have mixed feelings for this but in overall i was amazed and i respect the director because it was loyal to the books!
We were in need of an actor that was a genuine gamer, he played the games,was a fan of them,knew who is Geralt and i am glad that Cavill was the choice. I didn't like some other picks like triss and yen (mostly for the appearance) but yen was not that bad, she did her best i believe. Dantelion was amazing too!
Now for the plot... If you haven't read the books and you haven't played the games then it will be a complete mess because the storyline doesn't play with the right order.
The music was good in overall but i was hoping for the Percival band to make the OST...
Anyways, i am looking forward for the next season, it will be a lot better i believe because now they have a bigger budget.… Expand

Amazing first season. I understand why most gave it a lower score. The show can be confusing for first timers or people who only played the games. But for the rest of us long time ACTUAL fans, this show is fantastic. Can’t wait for season 2

1)СЖВ повестка - сериал просто пропитан этим, чёрные эльфы и краснолюды, хоть качков женщин нет, но есть Трисс, которая не рыжая и вообще не схожа с книжной Трисс.
2)Костюмы в основном на хорошем уровне, но броня армии Нильфграарда вызывает фэйсспам.… Expand

Slower beginning, but great characters, interesting stories and amazing fight scenes definitely made up for it. I think casting was done almost perfectly and I’m in awe of Geralt’s and Yenn’s actors acting skills. Wait for Season 2.

So my First opinion on Henry being geralt was critical. But After watching the First 2 Episodes i began to love his style and how good he played geralt in the series. I also didn't had a Problem with yennefer in the series, i Think the actress played the Role very good. Cirilla was also no Problem but i hope in the future, the actress is aware of the Role that she is playing,because cirilla is the most Important character in the whole witcher universe,and i was shocked when i heard that both,the actress of ciri and yennefer, wasn't aware of the Role that they were playing. I can imagine the pressure that those 2 actress have on their shoulders. All in all a must watch series for the witcher Franchise Fans, but there is one thing that really get on my nerves, and it is the reason why i only give 9/10 Points. It is because of triss actress. I can't say how much i lovvvveeeeeee triss, it was always my favorite character After geralt, and i have her on the same Spot as ciri,because i really really like ciri and i really really love triss. She is such a sweet, lovely, cute ,handsome, super good looking but also badass character in the witcher games. I can just repeat myself to infinity at how much i love this character. But when i saw her for the first time in the series, i was just soooooooo disappointed. Yes, i know that in the books she has brown hair, but i didn't liked the actress at all. I'am sorry but she just looked like a 53 years old Lady and for me she was so unsympathetic, and her look, i didn't liked how she looked at all, the face Impression just made her so unsympathetic. It was really hard for me to accept her in the series. I'am sorry for the actress, but they should have choosed a much better actress than her, an actress that looked more like triss from the games, because 80% of the People Knows the witcher from the games. I would like to see triss with red hair in the series, so that the actress looks more like her. After all i would give the witcher series a 9/10 because it is only 1 actress that i don't like.… Expand

Amazing show, the story is perfectly adapted to the series and even the effects are incredible. Only wrong thing is the chaotic way of storytelling going future and past confusingly.

If they spent a little more effort and screen time to dig into the story and a tad less on their political touch points, this can really benefit. The monster CGI fights also needed some better direction. Don't let the terri-bad first fight scene in Episode 1 put you off, it does get much better.… Expand

It grew on me. I'm not gonna lie; I didn't like the first few episodes. But I stuck with it. I got used to the humour and the comic character and just surrendered to the show and had fun with it.. and I'm happy I did! The last half of the season is particularly impressive. I can't wait to see what happens next :)

One request: please stop breaking the 4th wall. That is all.… Expand

I had the most experience with the games, and only then I've read the Witcher books. That's the reason I had some unfulfilled expectations after watching Netflix series. That's the reason I had some unfulfilled expectations after watching Netflix series. But during the process of watching the first season, I understood that it's a completely different take on the source material and by tossing off my expectations I began to get as much enjoyment as I could get. Some mistakes are made but it's a nice adaptation none the less. Worldbuilding is great, the soundtrack is quite good too, but I'm a bigger fan of Witcher 3 stuff. Henry is great and it is very easy to spot his devotion to this role and this universe. I hope that the show will do even better in the future because it's clear that there is still some space for improvement. Currently, I'm again intrigued in the story I already know so good, so that's a very good sign I guess :)… Expand
