It felt like coming home after a decade. Everyone's changed, everything changes with time, but at their core everyone is still the same.

For non-readers, it may feel a bit like "everything is happening" and you're not sure you understand yet. Don't worry, the show does an excellent job of giving you information as you need it, and tries hard not to overload you at any point. That said, this very familiar and wonderfully refreshing take on the Two Rivers is probably the least strong of the episodes released so far (1-4 at this writing). It works well as an introduction, but it's a pilot episode and you can tell. Enjoy a moment you will look back on in the future, and watch on for the truly good stuff.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good start! The village and settings were amazing and the actors nailed their parts! I like many of the changes and am happy they kept some things they overtly kept the same. I would like to have seen a bit more character development. They will hopefully fill this in later but it will be important for future episodes to show the friendships and relationships in the Two Rivers more as well as why the main characters are so good with the bow, staff, or axe. They also don’t say anything at all about why Tam has a heron mark blade and I thought it was strange that everyone including Rand were so apathetic about it appearing out of no where. Lastly, they needed a little more time to convince the audience why these kids had to leave. It was a total stranger saying “let’s go” one second and the next second they’re mounted and leaving and no one questions or is even all that sad. Overall though, pretty amazing start! Expand

Episode 1 does a solid job adapting book material and quickly getting the group out of the Two Rivers.

The opening scenes were a little disjointed, but once we got to the village it really started flowing. I enjoyed the characters and the world building was well done and interesting. The second half of the episode is absolutely fantastic.
