Weak, poorly acted and cheap looking claptrap, without any fidelity to a masterwork.

It's one thing the change events in an adaptation. It's another thing to change the characters, their backstory, and hence their motivation. Terrible start to a supposed faithful adaptation.

As a representation of the book, it was horrible. They absolutely decimated the characters. Lan and Moiraine lost all their subtlety and intelligence. Everyone has to have a flawed backstory and broken homes that were actually crucial to the plot of the book. Mat is a pos that sleeps with women and steals their stuff, and his dad is even worse. Except His dad is a huge part of his training to prepare to beat Gx2, and both parents are trash and he has to protect his sisters from them, Perrin isn't just a good man that struggles with how to protect his friends, but kills his wife that he had some sort of tension with? And the adolescent sexual tension with adult themes between Rand and Egwene? And the dialogue... so bad. Expand

The writers must've had absolutely no enthusiasm or care for their work. Just trying to get a paycheck.

Terrible pacing and poorly choreographed swordfight. Could have potentially been a rough setup for a gradually improving series (but a few episodes later it clearly wasn't)

A terrible beginning to a terrible show. Its obvious from the get go, that this show has no respect for the source material.

I went into this expecting GOT quality wheel of time ..what I got is the most campy fantasy I've seen In 20 years. Xena is higher quality.

It felt like coming home after a decade. Everyone's changed, everything changes with time, but at their core everyone is still the same.

For non-readers, it may feel a bit like "everything is happening" and you're not sure you understand yet. Don't worry, the show does an excellent job of giving you information as you need it, and tries hard not to overload you at any point. That said, this very familiar and wonderfully refreshing take on the Two Rivers is probably the least strong of the episodes released so far (1-4 at this writing). It works well as an introduction, but it's a pilot episode and you can tell. Enjoy a moment you will look back on in the future, and watch on for the truly good stuff.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good start! The village and settings were amazing and the actors nailed their parts! I like many of the changes and am happy they kept some things they overtly kept the same. I would like to have seen a bit more character development. They will hopefully fill this in later but it will be important for future episodes to show the friendships and relationships in the Two Rivers more as well as why the main characters are so good with the bow, staff, or axe. They also don’t say anything at all about why Tam has a heron mark blade and I thought it was strange that everyone including Rand were so apathetic about it appearing out of no where. Lastly, they needed a little more time to convince the audience why these kids had to leave. It was a total stranger saying “let’s go” one second and the next second they’re mounted and leaving and no one questions or is even all that sad. Overall though, pretty amazing start! Expand

Episode 1 does a solid job adapting book material and quickly getting the group out of the Two Rivers.

Bad pacing and incoherent story, most of the main cast has had their story changed.

Just a terrible adaption. Trying to hard to create something that isn’t the WoT. Like they didn’t read the books at all. Terrible CGI.

The opening scenes were a little disjointed, but once we got to the village it really started flowing. I enjoyed the characters and the world building was well done and interesting. The second half of the episode is absolutely fantastic.
