It was okay and very epic until they saw it more like a moneyprinter than an actual show...

Once they leave the prison, it turned into a novel. I actually got caught by TWD when I first watched episode 1. In that time, every single episode was filled with tension, desperate, agony. Did not care too much about looking for a cure or trying to understand the zombies origin, and that is fairly logic, I liked. But as said, after they leave the prison, things got boring (as it was leading to be, but still watchable). Waiting a week for new episodes, for it only to be almost an hour of pure philosophy about surviving. Zombies were pretty much all the show. Introducing the "Fight the dead, fear the living" thing was ok, but it kind of got off the trail. Expand

The only reason I can think of that this show is so highly rated is that the few fans this show still have are giving it 10's.

10's, meaning the show could not get any better. Well the shows viewership would seem to disagree, with only 3.1 million bothering to tune in to watch this dross in season 10.

Obviously with all comic book adaptations the show runners have to make some concessions, and some changes to get this show out to a wider audience. By season 10 however i'm not sure who they think this audience is?

The show as it stands plays out like a terrible tv drama, the antagonist of season 10 is neither terrifying nor charismatic, and the lead protagonists don't seem to do anything of any interest.

The shows saving grace is Neegan, who should by rights be coming to the end of his story arc. The problem is the people in this show are two dimensional and lacking charisma, thankfully Jeffrey Dean Morgan brings his own charisma to the stage while working with such weak material.

Season 1 in a delight to watch, it's a very good adaptation of the comics and at 6 expisodes just the right length to get in the major plot points and keep a great pace.

Season 2, well, that's where we start stretching things out and spreading the source material far too thin to keep the plot tight and concise. But the show's viewership grows and remains the same until about season 8.

I couldn't tell ya what happened between season 9 and 10, but the show moved away from zombie survival and more into crappy tv drama. At this point the show is a bore.

Time for the walking dead to die I think, but I will give this show a 5 on the merits of it's earlier seasons.

See that fan boys? That's how you give a relivent and reasonable rating.

I loved those seasons, but after that The Walking Dead started degrading into some cheap action TV show. It's not about zombies anymore. It's about humans vs. humans. Dumb, emotional dialogs replaced those amazing tense episodes that were present in early seasons. It's becoming more and more boring, especially the last seasons (9 & 10). I hope they will end this TV show soon, because it feels very stretched and prolonged now. Expand

I'm halfway through season 8 episode 8 and I just can't take any more. I'm not saying the show isn't entertaining. I'm not saying it doesn't have its moments. But the fact is once I got past the first season or two this series deterioratedI'm halfway through season 8 episode 8 and I just can't take any more. I'm not saying the show isn't entertaining. I'm not saying it doesn't have its moments. But the fact is once I got past the first season or two this series deteriorated into one of the worst series I've ever seen, if only because characters are constantly doing and saying stupid things. It's as if the show is full of sexy blondes from slasher flicks who insist on going down into the unlit basement with only a candle in hand. Every time someone assumes a contemplative look I'm asking myself, "What would be the stupidest thing this character could possibly say or do at this moment?" And I'm only infrequently proven wrong.

And, like George Romero said, [yes, that Romero] it's a soap opera. It's about feelings. Today, one character feels like going out and doing something is the only way to survive. Tomorrow, that same character is absolutely convinced that NOT going out is the only way to survive. And there will be no shortage of other characters prepared to argue the point endlessly.

Rick Grimes reminds me of Blade Runner's Rick Deckard. We knew Deckard was a great detective because his captain tells us so and in the sequel Deckard tells us himself, all this despite the fact that Deckard tracks down a total of one replicant and finds the others entirely by chance and is nearly slaughtered by most of them and only survives because, judging by an interview with Harrison Ford, Ridley Scott had no idea how to dramatize a murder mystery/police procedural. And of course we know Rick Grimes is a great leader because all the good people keep saying so, no matter how many of Rick's plans fail.

Frankly, I think Rick stopped being an interesting character after the governor's raid on the prison, which is the last I remember of anything displaying Rick's leadership skills.

And while we're on the subject of Rick the "leader", let's talk about how remarkable it is that Negan is always twelve steps ahead and just manages, somehow, to have the troops in position at all the right times and places to counter virtually every move Rick makes.

To call it "stage-managed" would be too polite.

And if I hear one more snide-sarcastic-pompous speech [yawn] by Negan's chief flunkies I just may fire a nail gun through my TV screen. I mean, talk about a complete lack of creativity. This stuff is so boring it put my laptop to sleep from two rooms away.

Few characters are actually very interesting because too many are slaves to the needs of the latest plot -- which all seem subject to the whims of the showrunners and writers. Carol Peletier is a rare exception. Her evolution is slow and arduous, stretching across entire seasons. Daryl Dixon is another one, despite the inanities, such as when he declares, "I'll never bow to you!" And then he bows. And then later he mocks someone who bowed.

The showrunners seem terrified of ever allowing the survivors to gather too many resources. A doctor shows up, the doctor is killed. Serious weaponry is acquired, five minutes later it's gone.

I mean, maybe this is how the comic series reads. Maybe it's the fans of the comic who are fans of this show. I've never seen the comic. I judge the series on it's own merits and frankly they seem very few and far between.

But don't get the idea that I've got anything against zombies. "Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead" is one of my favorite all-time flicks. "World War Z" is one of the few "novels" I've read in years. I just hate it when characters are twisted out of shape because this week's team of writers needs someone to go out on a limb and do something stupid.

And that's the series' real crime: Character Abuse in the First Degree.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m on Season 4 and I think I’m done. The story with the Governor was very riveting and kept Season three moving. I honestly was ready for that story arch to come to a close, but then they instead decided to end Season 3 with Andrea’s death which was the result of stupidity on the writer’s part. She handled three zombies by herself while being held to a tree, and you expect me to believe that one did her in. And even getting caught, you mean to tell me she didn’t look behind her to see Mr. Gov, following her, and BTW how did he survive being surrounded by zombies and not having bullets? On top of that, they kept teasing Gov’s death like a dangling prize. If Season Three would have ended with him dying it would have been great, but having him and his henchmen assay they’re going back to the prison after killing their whole force, was stupid anyway. It’s made worse when the team goes back and Gov decided he’d chicken out, and starting a new story suddenly without the resolve of Gov’s story arch let all the air out of what was going on. I’m done. Every character you get invested in most likely dies. You invest hundreds of hours into a television show like this... only to have everyone you know die, and the cast changes entirely after that.

It starts out fantastic, but then one by one characters die... and keep dying... and keep dying. The biggest problem in this regard is that their is no central goal. The only real goal anyone has is to "survive." That's quite an alright goal for a couple of seasons, but terrible for a long running series. Only by season 5 do we get from that to "rebuilding civilization". But does it take too long to get there? And are the situations interesting at all? My answer is no. The show wastes your time after a couple of seasons on pointless side plots featuring characters who inevitably die after a few episodes. And because of this, it makes viewers feel numb to their deaths. Think about it, why should you care about a character who is inevitably going to die anyways? Their are no stakes because characters die at the drop of a hat. And there is no tension because you keep asking yourself "oh, are they finally going to die this episode?" If you're a little invested in the story, like I was, you'll probably enjoy the first 4 seasons. But then you'll notice the trend. Everyone dies in the end, and that is a shame. Because making a show more "realistic" in an apocalypse doesn't have to mean killing off all of your supporting cast after the first 6 seasons. I dropped the show when the finale of part 1 of season 9 rolled around. This is when a certain character is presumed dead. I will not spoil it, but of all the losses in the show, this is the one that drove me mad.

For me, the show is a mixed-bag. The show starts out great, but loses it's luster until their is no one left to stick around for. Watch this show at your own risk. Just do so knowing that eventually, everyone you see on screen will die. And not only that, they will die horrible deaths, even ones that seem almost completely avoidable and unnecessary.

The show is enjoyable for the most part, however takes itself a bit too seriously given the zombie genre leading to some dodgy writing. The show goes on for a bit too long however the first 5 seasons are fun to watch
