This is one of the worst walking dead episodes in the history of the show and a clear example of why the show has started to die within the past couple of years. During a run-in with Negan's men, the King's group is short on their offering because Richard stole one of their melons in order to incite conflict. This prompts the saviors to shoot someone in order to make a point, and they murder Benjamin instead of Richard. So far so good, keeping the plot interesting. The problem comes when Morgan finds out about what Richard did and then proceeds to strangle him to death in front of the king. Everyone except for the saviors acted frustratingly out of character. The King and his men just watched Morgan strangle Richard without a second thought, even though the King knew Richard for much longer than he knew Morgan. But the most infuriating character in this scene is Morgan, who up to this point vowed to never kill again after his experience with the stick-wielding "cheesemaker" in the last season. The one time he broke that pact was to save Carol's life, which although a stretch for his character is understandable in his position. However, Morgan murdering Richard does not make ANY SENSE, because Morgan will only kill to save others. Murdering Richard would not have saved anyone, as he was going to use the opportunity to try to make temporary peace with the saviors. And even if he were trying to incite war with the saviors at that moment, it still would not have done anything to save them because Negan's men would have murdered them all anyway. And on top of that, Richard was not intentionally trying to kill Benjamin, he wanted to have himself killed to prove how dangerous the saviors were. And at the end of the day, Richard was not the one who pulled the trigger, it was one of Negan's men. I normally don't write reviews of singular episodes, but this episode wasted an interesting character with a unique backstory, killed off a kid with no conflict resolution, as Benjamin's killer did not suffer the consequences of his actions, and destroyed Morgan's character, turning him from an Aikido stick-wielding badass into Negan's pawn who will take it up the ass and KILL HIS OWN PEOPLE. Awful episode. Expand
