Another vapid tv show hinged on an initially interesting premise that it subsequently fails to deliver on answering nothing of the 'mystery' it presents you with leaving you with a 'lord of the flies teen drama'. Despite these flaws the acting is decent so if all you want going in is another teen drama then this show could provide some entertainment for you... otherwise AVOID! Expand

This teen version of Lord of the Flies is interesting in its views on society and what happens when all the rules are out of the window, but for the most part, you have to deal with a lot of teen drama crap and unlikable people making stupid choices, with only a vast minority of characters (about 5) being genuinely likable and the show does a poor job of exploring the mystery that makes itThis teen version of Lord of the Flies is interesting in its views on society and what happens when all the rules are out of the window, but for the most part, you have to deal with a lot of teen drama crap and unlikable people making stupid choices, with only a vast minority of characters (about 5) being genuinely likable and the show does a poor job of exploring the mystery that makes it unique, but there's a lot of potential and skill hiding beneath these faults, which is why I want to stick around and see where it goes. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unbelievable premise of a town disappearing into another dimension. Who supplies the power, gas, water and for that matter a year's supply of bottled bear in a town full of teenagers with no parental oversight -- wouldn't last more than 2 weeks in a typical American town.

The show is a creepily voyeuristic examination of the teenage relationships in the cutoff town but some of the best actors are not given enough time to expand into their roles.

It’s easy to sneer at The Society, awash as it is in teen-series melodrama and a perpetually unsatisfying central mystery that only truly serves as a high-concept hook, but there’s something oddly seductive about the show as it comes into its own – the kind of series you only realise around its midpoint you’ve become unexpectedly invested in. Just as long as you don’t think too hard about it.

A brilliantly average, perfectly imperfect show for bouncing teens, cankered fortysomethings and nothing in between.

There’s an irrepressible optimism to this guilty-pleasure watch.
