I think best to watch in one or two episode chunks.

Big disappointment. A thriller with no thrills. Uninspired acting, lazy writing, banal dialogue. Logic gaps in the story. The camera work is boring. I watched 2.5 episodes hoping it would get better. It didn't. That's it for me.

Predictable. He ends up protecting a key witness (Luciane Buchanan) as they scramble to elude the bad guys. Predictable. Turns out that the scheme involves double dealings at the highest level of government. Predictable. So, what stands out about this series? Basso has grown into an assured leading man type, so he works in the lead. Otherwise, the series adheres closely to established plot points and twists of the genre. There's much more discussion drama than action, but the few chase or fight scenes are adequately staged. Even though there's absolutely nothing new here, it's still a passable, but quickly forgotten addition espionage thriller. Expand

Nope. I just can't buy into an action thriller where the lead looks like he's still in high school.

"The Night Agent" (S01, 10 eps, 45-min, Netflix) is an attempt at an FBI action thriller series but it's lacking a few key elements that warrant a middling rating rather than a high rating. This might be because there are 10, count 'em, 10 executive producers, so this is a tv show by committee and that may have been its core problem. The nut of the story is really good and it's got good production values, so this show had real potential, but it dropped the ball in its execution maybe because there are five directors (!) and eight writers (!), most with little/no experience. So once again, another new Netflix series is really just a gimpy training ground for rookies to get writing/directing credits at our entertainment expense and I am so tired of this being the 90% case - only 1 in 10 new Netflix shows are decent enough to watch to the end. Well I called time-of-death at episode three when it just got too stupid to endure further. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watched the whole series. Amateurish effort all around. The premise of the plot is absurd. The way that the agencies interact is absurd. Major holes in the story. Lack of knowledge of cinemaphotography. The main "spy" never checked for tracking devices on his vehicle. The head of an agency had spyware on her phone. The bad guys can't shoot straight. In plain view of passengers, a guy takes off his backpack and dumps it on a train. Only the hero spy spots this. The digital files critical to the safety of the country are stored on an ssd without a backup. They are standard drafting plans that every engineer and architect can read by 1st year of university but these plans need someone special to read them. "What's this object?" "You mean the one with Gas Pipeline written on it?" It's buried and supposedly will explode destroying 2 city blocks when a bomb inside a train in a nearby tunnel explodes. Well, the same design of bomb couldn't even damage our hero lying in the open 5 yards away from the explosion. Etc. Expand

The show started off promising but went into the deep end trying to come up with twists and turns. The motivation for many of the characters don't really make sense until the final episode where all logic was just thrown out the window. I don't know how Netflix can keep wasting money on these mediocre shows due to writers lacking common sense on basic human behaviour. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It entertained me for a hungover Sunday, but it was dragged out and too formulaic. I dislike conspiracies where it feels like everyone whos in any power is in on it. I didnt follow every plotline but it felt kind of... unnecessary in the end? The whole premise of blowing a metro up to (maybe) kill somebody and possibly thousands of others sounsds ridiculous and like they came up with it on the go. Everyone acted super uncautious, like WHAT? A tracking device on my car NO WAY! As I said, its a passable watch for a rainy sunday with no schedule, but the plotholes are staggering at times. And the most ridiculous outcome is for the protagonist to become a night agent willingly at the end - like «yeah, after being treated like **** by the government for the deeds of my father and learning that literally all the entities in the white house are corrupt and those who arent wind up dead I will now set myself up for off the books government jobs, just to be dropped like a hot potatoe and/or getting tortured and/or killed at the next convenience. When can I start!?? » Expand

To be clear, I'm not saying this is a great show, but considering the state of the modern entertainment industry, it's watchable. The writing is barely passable, although the characters are all cliché and the plot is predictable. It's more like rewatching a show you've already seen instead of watching something new. The acting and directing are acceptable, not great, but acceptable. There's too much sex and violence. I think writers fall back on those tropes when they can't think of anything else. They didn't have enough story to fill up the episodes so they threw in a few fights and some sex to fill in time. If you are looking for something mindless to watch while you play a video game, this show is an acceptable option. Expand

Brilliant series. Gripped from beginning to end. The feeling of loss portrayed from the start for Rose's Aunt and Uncle is excellent.
The Cheif of Staff plays her role brilliantly and is incredibly believable.

While Night Agent doesn't do anything innovative or groundbreaking, it is highly engaging. I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

The characters and scenarios are formulaic, but it does an excellent job of building tension and suspense.
While Night Agent doesn't do anything innovative or groundbreaking, it is highly engaging. I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

The characters and scenarios are formulaic, but it does an excellent job of building tension and suspense. There's a strong sense of "what will happen next". The pacing is superb, as there is never a dull moment. Each episode ends on an exciting cliffhanger, and the following episode does a satisfying job of resolving the cliffhanger and build up to the next one. The villains are especially good, with some quirky personalities. It also has a good selection of film locations.

Overall, it follows the action series playbook very closely, but manages to be a high engaging enjoyable watch from start to finish.
