The show is not perfect (Basso and Buchanan still lack chemistry in a way that sometimes makes them feel more like siblings than lovers), but it’s consistently entertaining for 10 hours, rarely succumbing to the Netflix sag that often sinks shows this long. It’s an easy, thrilling, one-weekend watch.

Dynamics are different but, once it gets back up to speed, The Night Agent is the same show, endearingly unpretentious and focused purely on a narrative that has no frills, but no fat on it either. As the body count rises and the heroics required of Peter again start to seem impossible, it gets the job done.

While the new series of The Night Agent doesn’t reinvent the wheel, with its slick visuals, fast pacing and heart-stopping shootouts, it really doesn’t have to.
-
Who cares if it's a little ridiculous when it hits all of its emotional marks? I care a little, but not enough to stop watching when Peter and Rose have more injustice to uncover and lives to save. And it is just so easy to become addicted to watching them do it, especially by the time you get to the rip-roaring finale.
-
Despite some story presentation issues, The Night Agent season 2 is still a serviceable follow-up to season 1. Peter and Rose continue to be a perfect pairing, while new characters compliment their mission in both helpful and adversarial roles.
-
While we still feel that there’s a bit of a lunkheaded feel to The Night Agent, Basso’s and Buchanan’s characters are established enough in the second season that the improved mission they’re on is something we’re looking forward to watching.
-
While some moments feel underdeveloped, the action and thrills won't let you down. Recapturing the same intensity and intrigue that worked so well on the first go-around, Season 2 of The Night Agent is the perfect winter binge-watch.
-
The series is less assured about what it’s doing this time around, and it falls into the trap of taking an idea suited for a movie and stretching it to fill a 10-episode season.
-
The show’s breakneck plotting can be more exhausting than exhilarating. The Night Agent is too eager to please (and too Netflix-y in its reliance on spoken exposition rather than visual storytelling) to become fatally murky, but despite some impressive action, it doesn’t hit that hard, either.
-
Once you’ve pressed play, you’ll probably stay until the somewhat implausible ending. However, The Night Agent has become a victim of its own success. A pale imitation of itself, phoning it in.
