Season 1 Review: This series will not be for everyone, given its numerous, crushingly brutal scenes of domestic abuse and the devastating consequences of such pure evil actions. Still, by the time we reach the finale and one of the most moving closing sequences of any series this year, “Alice Hart” has earned its place as an important and inspirational story of female empowerment and the incredibly resilient nature of women who have endured so much and yet refuse to let anyone dim their shining light. Sigourney Weaver was able to display a vulnerable and empathetic June Hart, while at the same time giving off some serious Olivia Foxworth vibes with her commanding presence. Alyla Browne's performance breathes life into young Alice, amidst an enchanting backdrop. Subtle dialogues and concealed emotions raise questions, adding layers of intrigue. A talented ensemble, led by Sigourney Weaver, crafts exciting, mysterious characters.

I can't wait to make my way back to Thornfield. There's so much to uncover about each character's history, and I'm eager to see how they all develop throughout the series.… Expand

This is obviously taken from a novel, because there's lots of expressive imagery and lingering looks. The pacing reads slowly as the mild surprises are meted out, one per episode. Weaver strains and struggles, as does the rest of the cast with the melodrama that's trapped their characters. While there is some beauty and occasional emotion, the self-reflective nature on top of the statements about abuse and empowerment make the film wilt more than blossom.… Expand
